Man breaks record by sitting in 39,250 seats Thu Jul 10, 2:56 PM ET
PASADENA, Calif. - Jim Purol took a seat at the Rose Bowl, and then another, and then another, until he broke a world record.
The Anaheim man set a Guiness World Record on Wednesday for "Most Seats Sat in 48 Hours" by sitting in 39,250 seats.
He began the task Monday morning, and he's still going, hoping to rest his tush in each of the stadium's 92,542 seats by sometime this week.
The 56-year-old, who already holds several other world records, says he has dreamed of tackling the Rose Bowl seats for 20 years — ever since he sat in all 107,501 chairs at the University of Michigan's football stadium.
The feat has taken a toll on his body and his cleanliness, as soot on the seats rubbed off on his clothes. He says he loves the Rose Bowl but calls the place "filthy."

London restaurant blast at world's hottest curry title Thu Jul 10, 12:12 PM ET
LONDON (AFP) - A London restaurant was serving up Thursday what it hopes will be confirmed as the world's hottest curry, with even the chef admitting it is "too extreme" to keep on the menu.
ADVERTISEMENT Vivek Singh at The Cinnamon Club grabbed some of the hottest chilli peppers known to man to create the Bollywood Burner, a lamb-based dish with a fierce kick.
The curry is so hot that diners are asked to sign a disclaimer confirming they are aware of the risks involved before daring to eat it.
The Bollywood Burner is being submitted to Guinness World Records for verification of its status as the planet's hottest curry. The verdict should be announced within three weeks.
Student Toby Steele, 19, from Brighton on the southern English coast, was the first to taste the Bollywood Burner.
"I'm usually a korma man and I suspect this is the hottest thing I've ever tasted," he said.
"It was nice actually, you could really taste the spices.
"The initial taste isn't that hot but now, a couple of minutes later, I feel a bit floaty and light-headed."
The dish, inspired by cuisine from Hyderabad in southern India, includes the Naga and its seeds -- confirmed by Guinness World Records as the hottest chilli pepper in the world.
On the Scoville scale of piquancy, the Naga scores 855,000 -- more than 100 times hotter than the jalapeno, which measures 8,000 on the scale.
"We found a list of the 10 hottest chillies and decided to try and use some of them. I think it will be the hottest curry in the world," said Singh.
The curry will not be a regular feature on the menu, he added.
Lianne la Borde of the Daily Star newspaper said: "It is the hottest I have ever tasted. At first, it tasted delicious. Then my mouth caught fire. It even made me feel dizzy."
Metro newspaper's James Ellis said it was "innocuous enough at the first bite," but one helping "saw my taste buds melt in fury at the inferno in my mouth.
"Meanwhile, my heartbeat, which started at a resting pace of 68 beats per minute, zoomed up to 128 -- the equivalent of doing aerobic exercise."

MSN Reports-
Great White Shark Reported At "Jaws" Filming Sight
EDGARTOWN, Mass. - The island where "Jaws" was filmed had a real-life shark scare Thursday, when an unconfirmed sighting of a great white forced the closure of two beaches.
South Beach on Martha's Vineyard was closed for a short time, and swimmers were kept out of the water at State Beach in Edgartown, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation said.
A plane was dispatched to try to confirm the sighting, but no shark was spotted, said Lisa Capone, a spokeswoman for the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. Story continues below ↓advertisement
In 1974, Steven Spielberg chose Martha's Vineyard for filming the movie version of "Jaws," depicting a series of deadly great white attacks in the fictional community of Amity.
Shark attacks are extremely rare in waters off New England, but great whites have been known to occasionally prowl in the region.

5,000 gallons of molasses spill on Texas highway Fri Jul 18, 6:37 AM ET
SUGAR LAND, Texas - A sticky mess has been cleaned up after an overturned tanker truck poured 5,000 gallons of molasses onto a major Texas highway.
ADVERTISEMENT Drivers heading to Sugar Land were rerouted Thursday after the afternoon accident shut down Texas 6 at Southwest Freeway for eight hours.
City of Sugar Land spokeswoman Pat Pollicoff told The Houston Chronicle the road was closed until midnight Thursday because of the coating of "healthy, all natural molasses." The spilled molasses was supposed to be used in cattle food.
The 26-year-old driver of the truck, Joe Albert Loya, was taken to a hospital with minor head injuries.

Afraid of laundry? You will be after reading this Thu Jul 17, 8:18 PM ET
GORHAM, Maine - Mara Ranger will be a little paranoid doing laundry now. When she was removing clothes from the washing machine at her Maine farmhouse Wednesday, the clothes moved. She told WMTW-TV, "I jumped back" and saw a snake. She quickly shut the lid and called for help.
ADVERTISEMENT Maine Animal Damage Control operator Richard Burton reached into the machine and pulled and pulled — all 8 feet of a reticulated python.
Burton guesses the snake got into Ranger's washing machine through water pipes. The snake's future home will be York Animal Kingdom in York.
Ranger is going to start looking into every corner of her washing machine. She says, "I'm going to be looking in the tub first — before and after, maybe even during, the rinse cycle."

R.I. police say man had 0.491 blood alcohol level Tue Jul 22, 11:23 PM ET
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - State police say they arrested a man early Tuesday whose blood alcohol level was 0.491 percent — the highest ever recorded in Rhode Island for someone who wasn't dead.
Stanley Kobierowski was taken to a hospital, put in the detoxification unit and sedated, said Maj. Steven O'Donnell. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, and he was released after promising to appear Friday at a court hearing.
"The person's lucky they survived," O'Donnell said. "There's no doubt he would have gotten killed or killed someone if he had continued on the route he was taking."
A phone listing for Kobierowski could not be found, and he did not have a lawyer in court Tuesday.
Kobierowski, 34, of North Providence, was arrested after he drove into a highway message board on Interstate 95 in Providence, O'Donnell said.
After police arrived, Kobierowski had trouble getting out of the car, then grabbed it and refused to move, forcing troopers to carry him to the breakdown lane before taking him back to their barracks, O'Donnell said.
A breath test showed blood alcohol readings of 0.489 percent, followed by 0.491, O'Donnell said, the highest readings state officials could remember for someone who didn't end up dead.
The legal limit in Rhode Island is 0.08. A level of 0.30 is classified as stupor, 0.4 is comatose and 0.5 is considered fatal, according to the health department.

This isn't Yahoo News, but it is odd, or perhaps disturbing...
Condom Maker Offers Up $1M for Miley
(July 28) -- Miley Cyrus: teen pop sensation, actress, racy photo-taker ... condom spokesperson?
Lil' miss 'Hannah Montana' has reportedly been offered a cool $1 million by LifeStyles Condoms to be their rep aimed at getting teens to use their product, the Daily News reports. Ironically, the report comes on the same day that more saucy private photos of Cyrus hit the Web, this time showing the teen queen kissing and cuddling with an unidentified male.

Just because this is weird....
Anaconda 3: The Hoff-Spring
Anaconda 3: The Hoff-Spring! Did you miss the Sci-Fi Channel premiere of Anaconda 3 starring David Hasselhoff this weekend? Good news: the DVD is already scheduled for an October 21st release. Or you could just watch the movie when it replays on Sci-Fi September 21st. I think Sony Home Entertainment would prefer you wait for their DVD.
Anaconda 3: Offspring (Sci-Fi left off the "offspring" part of the title, amazing given their love for titles with colons) will retail for about $24.96. Not enough Hoff-on-snake action in the movie to justify that price if you ask me. But I think with every copy sold John Rhys-Davies gets one step closer to adding another room onto his house.
The film will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track for those that care about such technicalities.

Urine bottles: Another result of high fuel prices? Fri Aug 8, 4:44 PM ET
ONTARIO, Ore. - Police say there's been an alarming rise in urine-filled plastic containers found along a three-mile stretch of Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon.
ADVERTISEMENT A litter crew for the Oregon Department of Transportation picked up an estimated 200-300 urine filled plastic bottles, along the highway, about half of which were found in a short stretch dubbed "Three Mile Hill."
Police say that drivers — particularly commercial trucks — are typically driving very slowly through the area.
Police think the price of fuel may be causing drivers to travel slower than normal to save fuel while at the same time passing rest areas or truck stops.
Under Oregon law, improperly disposing of human waste is a misdemeanor which can carry a fine of up to $250.

Nudist group wants clothing-optional polling site 2 hrs 22 mins ago
LAND O' LAKES, Fla. – A nudist community on Florida's west coast wants to establish the first clothing-optional polling site. The Caliente Resorts, located in Pasco County north of Tampa, has approached election officials about the idea.
Nothing in state law would prohibit it, but the supervisor of elections says he is opposed to creating any new precincts before redistricting in 2010.

Teen arrested breaking into police station Mon Nov 3, 12:32 pm ET
SYDNEY (Reuters) – The long arm of the law didn't have to reach too far to arrest one Australian teen-ager, who was caught breaking into a police station in the early hours of Monday.
Officers working in the back of the police station in a suburb of the southern city of Adelaide heard the front door glass being smashed and found the 16-year old in the front hall.
"A teenage boy has discovered the quickest way of getting arrested is to break into a police station," South Australia state police said in a statement on its website.
About A$2,000 ($1,340) of damage was caused and the boy was denied bail, the statement said.
A police spokesman added the youth did not give a reason for his actions, and may have had "a bit too much to drink."
