Dimension's 'Grindhouse' Scores a Solid R-Rating
The Grindhouse is officially open for business as the dreaded MPAA just gave Dimension's upcoming film an R rating for "strong graphic bloody violence and gore, pervasive language, some sexuality, nudity and drug use." We're going to look into just how much was cut from the film, but this is great news considering it sounded like an NC-17 was inevitable.

Eli Roth Talks Faux 'Thanksgiving' Trailer
On the weekend of April 6, when Dimension Films releases Grindhouse, you only think you're going to be discussing which was better, Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof" or Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror". The fact of the matter is that you're going to be taking about Eli Roth's faux trailer, "Thanksgiving", which is certainly the highlight of the moviegoer event. This past weekend we caught up with Roth who talked to us about the trailer, the dreaded MPAA and more. Read on for the interview, along with a still from production! When you see GRINDHOUSE one of the most infamous shots in the movie is from Eli Roth’s trailer THANKSGIVING, which involves a cheerleader and a knife – here’s how the MPAA reacted, “So we showed it to the ratings board, and it was funny that that trailer wound up getting more comments than Death Proof and Planet Terror combined,” Roth explains, “But in the end the ratings board were great. We said. ‘Look we still want to have the moment, so I was like what if I scratch the film, literally take out the full frontal nudity?’ Just kind of scratch it and use clever editing so that it actually isn’t there but it’s cut together with trick photography, and they were great about it. And they even let me keep the turkey sex.”
He then joked a little about the soon-to-be infamous shot, “Honestly, when I shot that trailer I really thought there was no problem with anything, it just shows how genuinely out of touch I am,” Roth explains, “A girl, full frontal, shot to camera, landing on a knife… seemed like no problem to me! Its an exploitation movie, it’s my JOB to exploit! If I don’t exploit this girl I have FAILED as a grindhouse director! These guys are expecting a lot from me!”
But of course the big question is, will Roth ever turn THANKSGIVING into a feature film, much like MACHETE? Here’s what he had to say, “Here’s part of the problem, I had so much fun shooting that trailer; it’s kind of all I want to do now. It’s a trailer is just money shot after money shot! Normally I have to write the story and the subtext and make excuses for all of it… But this is pure unadulterated, gratuitous sex and violence! I felt like a 13 year old kid again when we were shooting it.”
As for as Roth’s favorite “holiday horror” film, he tells us, “When I was growing up, there was Halloween, Black Christmas, Silent Night Deadly Night, My Bloody Valentine, April Fool’s Day, New Years Evil, and I was like: When’s the Thanksgiving one coming out? And especially growing up in Massachusetts, where we have two full time working pilgrim plantations. So that was a big deal, Thanksgiving in Massachusetts. I’ve always been dying for one. But I love My Bloody Valentine. When we shot this trailer, the style I was going for was like Prowler, Mother’s Day, Maniac, and Silent Night Deadly Night.”

Tarantino Already Planning His Own 'Grindhouse' Sequel!
Only one week away from Dimension Films' $50 million risk, Grindhouse, which gives fans a movie from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez back-to-back (all for a single price).
It was already revealed that Rodriguez has about 30-minutes of footage for a feature called Machete (that would star Danny Trejo), today Variety scooped Tarantino's plans, "Rodriguez and Tarantino want to keep the "Grindhouse" series going.
For his part, Tarantino wants to shoot an old-school Kung Fu movie in Mandarin with subtitles in some countries, and release a shorter, dubbed cut in others." If Grindhouse pulls in some 300 numbers next week, I willing to bet we see it happen.

I saw Grindhouse this morning. Very fun flick to see in the theater. Be warned though... don't buy the Big Coke as the film has a running time of over 3 hours.

I am giving it a thumbs up, the trailors were superb and I thought the Robert Rodriguez flick was really good. Not that I didn't like the Tarantino film, I just thought Planet Terror was better.
I would suggest seeing it at a popular time because we were in with a large crowd which made viewing even better.

Yeah, it's definitely a movie that needs to be seen in a packed theater. I loved it. If I have to pick a favorite, it's Death Proof. Who else wants to see a feature-length Werewolf Women of the S.S.?

Grindhouse definitely kicked major ass. I loved the hell out of this movie. I would love to see the sequel include full versions of Machete and Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving trailer was pretty funny.
Machete looks like something Rodriguez will end up directing anyway... kinda like "El Mariachi 3".... not that that is a bad thing. The legend of Danny Trejo grows...
"Werewolf Women of the SS" looked good. Nick Cage made me laugh!

Edgar Wright and Eli Roth to direct 'Grindhouse 2'?
Despite problematic box office results, fans are still clamoring to see the fake trailers from "Grindhouse" as feature films. Edgar Wright has plans to expand "Don't," and Eli Roth thinks his "Thanksgiving" would make the perfect double feature, at least according to Rotten Tomatoes.
"I already talked with Edgar Wright about Edgar doing 'Don't' and me doing 'Thanksgiving,'" said Roth. "We're talking to Dimension about it. I think they're still trying to figure out 'Grindhouse 1' before we think about 'Grindhouse 2,' but I've already been working on the outline for it and I would do it in a heartbeat."
An aficionado of '80s horror films, Roth would do it old school style. "The catch is that me and all my friends who are in our 30s, we all have to play high school students, because that's how they did it in '80s horror movies."
Roth could write a full script for "Thanksgiving," but the outline is likely to be sufficient. "We have the outline, the story ideas but part of the fun of Grindhouse is actually not having a script. I wouldn't want to write it too detailed. You've just got to work out the kills and then see who's around and grab a camera and have fun."
The director has no fears about the "Grindhouse" label, even though The Weinstein Company seems blindsided by the public response. "My feeling is that three and a half hours, it was a long time at the movies for people. The movie itself was three hours and 15 minutes and then there's 20 minutes of trailers and then parking and everything, it suddenly became a four hour evening for people. So there's only so many times you can show it in a day and a lot of people getting off work, it was tough for people to find the time to see it. The people that saw it loved it. People were going crazy for it and I think that 25 years from now, everyone will talk about the classic movie Grindhouse and no one will talk about, the words box office disappointment won't even apply. I think the guys made a brilliant film and they should be commended for it and they took a risk."
