From December2003:
Deicide guitarist Eric Hoffman was arrested in Buffalo, New York, on Tuesday for trying to cross the Canadian border with drugs. Hoffman, who was traveling in a mobile home, was charged with criminal possession of anabolic steroids with intent to sell, and possession of a hypodermic needle. He was also hit with three lesser possession charges for three types of prescription depressants. The man he was traveling with, Benjamin T. Boynton, was charged for having five grams of amphetamines, over a pound of marijuana, a loaded .22-caliber revolver, brass knuckles and a police baton. Court dates are pending.

It's good to see that Deicide are not only open about their Satanic worship - but are also major drug users/dealers as well...

I forgot to point out earlier that this December arrest along the New York/Canada border follows an October incident where Deicide's guitarists and drummer were detained overnight along the Minnesota/Canada border, leaving Glen Benton alone at a venue where they were supposed to perform.
Stay away from Canada, folks.

DEICIDE ( US/Fl ) "Scars of the Crucifix" Cd 2004 Earache Track List (9 tracks) 1) Scars of the Crucifix 2) Mad at God 3) Conquered by Sodom 4) Fuck Your God 5) When Heaven Burns 6) Enchanted Nightmare 7) From Darkness Come 8) Go Now Your Lord is Dead 9) The Pentecostal Vote: 8,75 Genre: Satanic Death Metal Review: True, I have always supported that Deicide have faced an unexpected and inexorbale backfire after that legendary album "Legion" which has been their masterpiece, not to mention one of the most unique Death Metal records ever released. Although I have to admits that in this album the group has returned to indeed remarkable qualitative levels. "Scars of the Crucifix" is not perhaps a meisterwerk of absolute innovation but it is for sure a turning point for several aspects which the band carried out thus far as steady marks of their unique sound in the past 10 and over years. First of all the album is indeed varied, complex and at the same time kissed by a remarkable compositiva consistency. To begin with, the Hoffman bros have loosened a bit their vice as far as their "noise" integralism on solos is concerned: this time they are present, even vaguely melodic and give a character of artistic maturity to the entirety, which however remain pure bonegrinding Death Metal , with the mythical blasphemous lyrics without too many excesses of circumlocutions ("Fuck Your God "etc), vocals that seem articlated with clenched teeth, and the trademark blast beats. Undoubtedly this is the best thing that I hear from their part since "Legion", and I add that in some points you wonder if you're still listening to Deicide... In any case the last Deicide is indeed something to hear at least once, personally I think this is indeed a really beautiful album: complete, with a sky high recording quality (good ole Morrisound), and a shitload of blasphemous black energy. For those who were about to forget abot them, here is a sgood show of what they're still able to do. Superb!
Line Up : Glen Benton - Vocals/Bass, Steve Asheim - Drums, Eric Hoffman - Guitar, Brian Hoffman - Guitar

Here's a new feature I found on Deicide's official website www.deicide.com/ Glen's Bible Tip Of The Day - check it out - It's kinda got a "Hoss On Religion" vibe going on here. Is Stallion a Satanist afterall? That would explain a lot...

Guitar World Interview! Deicide's guitarists - brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman -- are featured in the May issue of Guitar World magazine with a full-page interview! Guitar World names Deicide "one of the most recognizable acts in death metal" and describes their Earache debut album, 'Scars Of The Crucifix', thusly: "A furious death metal assault tempered by technique-heavy, fleet-fingered guitar breaks, 'Scars Of The Crucifix' is the sound of a rejuvenated Deicide." Pick up the May issue of Guitar World (with the White Stripes' Jack White on the cover), anywhere that magazines are sold!

Sweet. I'll be looking for that next time I go to 7-Eleven, and there's at least one 7-Eleven on every block around here, so the magazine should prove easy to find. I actually counted 8 7-Eleven stores last night between my place and Wal-Mart (also one of many.)

In a day for music movies & DVDS, Ponyone and Muthagoose watched "School Of Rock" (great flick), "Visions Of The Beast" from Iron Maiden (the shit) and the Deicide DVD "Behind The Scars". "Behind The Scars" was alright I guess, but there really wasn't much going on besides the shooting range and a couple of funny lines. Good album though.

I liked "Behind the Scars" just because we finally get to "meet" the members of a band that have been largely invisible for the past fifteen years. I thought it was interesting to hear them talk and see where some of them lived and whatnot. From that point-of-view, it was a good experience.
I have one earlier collection of Maiden videos on VHS, and I checked several times over the past years to see if they had been released on DVD. Now it appears from reading the track listing that they have been. I'll be on the lookout for that in about three hours when I'm roaming the aisles of the Wal-Mart Supercenter. I need to stop going there, since every time I go in for groceries, I find myself walking out with $20 in groceries and $200 in DVDs.

I liked "Behind the Scars" for the same reason LOTB. Nice to see who is making the sound behind Deicide.
The gun range thing was kind of funny too. That part should be renamed "Firearms: Behind The Music".

The sad thing about the gun bit was that Steve could not even accurately describe an M1 Carbine, among other erroneous details during that whole talk. The M1 Carbine, chambered for a .30 caliber round, would be a poor choice for hunting deer as it lacks the knockdown "shock" power of any of the cartridges that in reality do get used for hunting big game. The M1 Carbine definitely had enough power to knock down Japs and Germans, though.

Man, it's too bad Deicide's website hasn't been updated with the schedule for this tour yet. I'd like to see if they'll be coming a little closer to me than Baltimore. Regardless of which way I go around the Bay, Baltimore's a good 4.5-5 hour drive.

That sounds like the makings of a plan, Pone. As of now, I'm scheduled to be working that weekend. Remind me around late July or early August, I'll take a look at what I've got in the way of money and remaining vacation hours, and maybe I'll take off and head up there. For now, it's too far into the future for me to know what my workscape will be looking like then.

Looks like September 19th is the day of our third quarter full network maintenance outage at work. I no longer have to wrestle with the decision of whether or not to attend the show, since there's no way in hell I'd be able to get out of working that.
