"Friday the 13th" Remake In 2009?
Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes plans to release a remake of "Friday the 13th" sometime in 2009 reports Variety. First announced in January 2006, the project fell into development hell as time went on and Platinum Dunes released a series of failed remakes (Hitcher, Amityville) and prequels (TCM: The Beginning). Many are waiting to see the performance of Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remake to see whether this moves forward or not. Jonathan Liebesman was previously attached to direct the R-Rated horror film which would return to Crystal Lake. February, March, November will all experience the fateful potential release date throughout that year. "Best Movie EVAR!!!" - Jeff Maki and Steven Johnson of Live-Metal.Net

Shannon & Swift Pen "Friday The 13th" Remake
Damian Shannon and Mark Swift ("Spy Hunter," "Freddy vs. Jason") have been tapped to write the remake of the 1980 horror classic "Friday the 13th" for Platinum Dunes and New Line says Reuters.
The first film had the unstoppable hockey mask-wearing killer making only a brief appearance in the final frames. Jason didn't even get his mask til the third film.
The remake however will focus on Jason - who will wear the mask and kill - and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.

Paramount released the original "Friday" in 1980, introducing horror icon Jason with a brief appearance. The remake will focus on the serial killer, who will wear his now-iconic hockey mask. Padalecki will play the lead, who investigates what happened up at Crystal Lake. A release is planned for -- what else? -- Friday, Feb. 13, 2009.

FRIDAY THE 13TH: Jason and Leading Lady AnnouncedThe Unlucky lady in question for the lead role in Marcus Nispel’s (director of 2003s horror remake ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’) upcoming redoing of slasher classic Friday the 13th is Amanda Righetti, who many of you will recognise as Hailey Nichol in the absurdly popular ‘The OC’. Righetti is in final negotiations to play the lead role, and filming should begin soon in Austin, Texas. Derek Mears (The Hills Have Eyes II) has already been cast as the terrifying villain of the movie, Jason Voorhees (seriously, look at this pic and tell me you wouldn’t be well scared). Speculation as to how this film is going to end up is already rife across horror-geek message boards all over the net. What do you think? Is Righetti a little bit TOO good looking for the role? Who knows. Predictably, the film is set for release in Friday the 13th of February 2009.

Friday The 13th Trailer To Debut at Comic Con
Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema plan on unveiling the first teaser trailer for their remake of Friday the 13th at this year's San Diego Comic Con, which will take place July 24-27. What does this mean for us fans? It means that if the trailer is shown at the Con it will hopefully find it's way online that weekend for all of us to check out (someone get a camera installed in your hat!) Directed by Marcus Nispel, FRIDAY will continue the legend of Jason Voorhees, his mother Pamela, while rocking his infamous "hood" and hockey mask. The film is slated for release on February 13th, 2009.

The trailer is supposed to premiere at Comic Con.
I hear that Kid Rick's brother is lurking off to that event. They are also have a Lost Boys 2 panel... but his brother is just there to dress up in tights!
But anyway... I bet we see the trailer within a week.
The set reports that I have read all all super positive and I personally think it will be badass. One par with the new Halloween for sure.

Despite what may people thought about the Halloween remake, I loved it and I do have high hopes for this remake. From the pics I have seen, it looks like they are doing a good job at bringing a new version of a classic to life.

Michael Bay Talks "Friday The 13th" Twist
We've heard all about the upcoming Friday the 13th over the past few months, and while there has been plenty revealed, there is still one man who hasn't spoken up. This afternoon Entertainment Weekly spoke to Platinum Dunes producer (and big action director) Michael Bay about the forthcoming return of Jason Voorhees divulging some interesting news about a possible "twist"?! Read on for the skinny.
While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Bay talked a bit about the new plot for the remake, which arrives in theaters February 13, 2009.
"It’s a reconception of the original. We’re introducing a whole group of new kids. What we always try to do is add a little bit of freshness to these movies that were really scary back then and update them for a new audience."
Bay continues, "I haven’t seen the director's cut because he’s still cutting, but I know this one will really be scary; it’s also funny, as well. It’s a fun college adventure that goes awry. It’s not a movie I would ever show my mom! (Laughs) We don’t make these for our mothers; we make these for the fans out there."
He also took the chance to respond directly to the haters of the remake, which are all over the place...
"There are always haters out there, and you can’t get rid of that" he explains. "We try to be faithful, and we’re fans ourselves. It’s like when I did Transformers — I listened to the fans, you know, but you still have to make your own movie by respecting what was done and trying to give it a whole new twist."
A whole new twist? You might want to get that SPOILER hard hat on before you read the next sentance...
"You’re just not going to believe the first 12 minutes! It’s a twist in itself..."
Watch for more as it comes in. The first image of Jason is rumored to appear as early as this week!

'Friday The 13th' Cast, Crew Reveal Reboot's Body Count -- And Jason's Love For 'Guitar Hero'?
Your brave friends at MTV News have traveled to Camp Crystal Lake. We've seen the face of Jason Voorhees. And somehow, we've lived to talk about it.
In February, a baker's dozen of dumb teenagers won't be so lucky.
"The body count is 13," producer Brad Fuller revealed to us last weekend when we caught up with him at Comic-Con to discuss the "Friday the 13th" remake.
"I wish we could take credit for [the number of deaths]," he added, acknowledging the symmetry of 13 deaths in a "Friday the 13th" film "The writers, [Damian] Shannon and [Mark] Swift, after we had done everything, said, 'Did you notice how many kills there were?' And we said, 'Yeah, there are a lot.' They said, 'Actually, there are 13.' So the writers had figured that out."
"We also show what Jason's doing when he's not killing," added his producing partner, Andrew Form. Together, the producers have made recent remakes of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "The Amityville Horror" and "The Hitcher." "I think that's something different for the franchise. He plays 'Guitar Hero.' "
"He actually plays a mean banjo," Fuller laughed. "He's just great on it, and people didn't know that. It's fun to watch."
If you really believe Jason is jamming on his Xbox, well, you're as dumb as the 178 people he has dispatched on camera so far. But wait: Could a newer, smarter, faster, machete-wielding madman actually make his eternal struggle with sex-craved teens a bit more evenhanded?
"He just wants to be left alone," explained the massive Derek Mears, who we observed on set moving much faster and more realistically than the old Jason. "[Our character] has been rejected. He's pulled away from society. He wants to live by himself. And all of a sudden, these kids come into his area and disrespect his area. And he has nowhere to go. He's like a caged animal with his back against the wall and he, albeit in a bad way, protects himself."
"I had a lot of bruises," remembered Amanda Righetti, who plays one of the new-generation teens being tormented in the flick. "My knees got pretty damaged. I had some bad knee problems afterwards, and it took me about four weeks to really recover from it. It definitely isn't as campy as the original 'Friday the 13th' movies. They were what they were for their day. But when you look at them now, you don't get as creeped out. It's a different feel. I think the audiences are demanding a little bit more of horror movies now, so [ours] is a lot of blood and guts and weapons and stuff like that."
Taking over for the beloved Kane Hodder, Mears went to great lengths to ensure that his Jason wouldn't become another stiff guy with a hockey mask and a machete.
"[I've been] doing the character background, the victimization of Jason since he was abused as a child. He was always the outcast," Mears insisted, explaining that Voorhees is mentally ill. "He was always shunned by society. So I've taken the stance that it's almost like a Vietnam flashback, where someone has been victimized and abused so badly that when things resurface and these kids start to encroach on his area, he is once again having a flashback. It's a moment so intense that he's getting his revenge [for] when he saw his mother get murdered. He's still in the moment, like these people just recently murdered his mother, and he's having his revenge."
During their Comic-Con panel, the filmmakers unveiled the first trailer for the film. It began much like any of their recent remakes, with attractive teens wandering into a scary place (Jason's house) and then having something horrible happen (a machete pokes through the ground, goes through the teen boy, and a hand pulls him through the floor). But with later shots of teens running in the woods and a camera looking up at a woman swimming in Crystal Lake, viewers could definitely tell this is another installment in one of cinema's most successful franchises.
"We had to keep the hockey mask, which is where it all started, and Camp Crystal Lake as a jumping off point for us to go back to the first one," Form said of the "13th" elements that could never be removed.
"We wanted to make a movie that was fun, and we haven't done that before," Fuller added. "A lot of our movies, I think, have been more dreary and tended more towards what they call torture porn. ... The scares are so scary, but the scares are happening to kids that you love, because you had a fun experience with them. These are kids who are drinking, smoking and having sex, and it's been a long time since you've seen that on the big screen. We're hoping that those two things coming together will give the audience a new experience with a horror movie."
After nearly 200 killings, however, Mears said there's only one way that Jason would ever let you live, and no one has tried it yet. "Just make friends with him. That way, he won't be lonely," the immense actor grinned. "Grab a good Nerf football. A nice game of catch with Jason. No! He's like a wild animal. Let him be. Go your own way."

Friday the 13th Remake DVD Details
At Comic Con we caught up with Brad Fuller who let us know some small details on the final cut of the Friday the 13th Remake as well as the dvd. The DVD Cut is very likely going to be much longer then the theatrical release since the movie is only 90minutes but they shot 2 and a half hours of actual film. The R Rated DVD is very likely going to contain more footage. The final movie will be 90 minutes so there's an hour of stuff that we're going to have to cut out of the movie. That DVD will be long and I can't imagine that the ratings board is going to be euphoric about giving us an R rating with what we're going to turn into them. We can also likely expect some alternate endings since they shot more then one alternate for the film; We shot a couple deaths different ways. Not where their death is questionable, whether or not it happens. Just where we want to make sure that the deaths are really effective and we weren't sure when we were on set so there's a couple different options. But I don't think there's going to be any - - there's not going to be any characters who in one cut of the movie they live and in another cut they die. I always like when a DVD is released with a longer cut then the theatrical run. Its VERY unlikely its going to be 2 1/2 hours ( American Tourists in Cuba kinda unlikely ) but with some luck we can get an extra 20 minutes or so of carnage with our DVD purchases when it does arrive. Stay tuned for more!
