JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford has revealed to Revolver magazine that the band have recorded enough new material for two albums. The next step will be to decide which songs flow together best. "It's hard because we don't do anything that all threee of us [Halford and guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing] don't agree upon, so we're very attached to these songs," Halford said. "But the rest of the material may be used for a follow-up, whenever that may be."
The writing for the much-anticipated album, due December 28 through Epic, began last October in England and the bulk of the recording was completed before the band embarked on this summer's Ozzfest. Following the end of the tour, PRIEST are planning on returning to the studio to finish guitar and vocal overdubs as well as mix and master the disc. Halford, who rejoined the band in July 2003, said the new songs capture the band's vintage sound while tapping into the current meteal climate. "We have always been aware of what's going on around us, and that's been part of the reason for our creative success," he told Revolver. "We've always tried to make music that works no matter when it's released, so this will stand on it own legs and have its own identity, like every great PRIEST record."
While there was initially some apprehension as to whether or not the magic between the three songwriters would still be there, such concerns were quickly dispelled. "The floodgates literally roared open, and an amazing amount of ideas came forth," Halford said.
As previously reported, the initial shipment of JUDAS PRIEST's upcoming studio album will include a bonus DVD filmed during the band's June shows in Barcelona and Valencia, Spain. The band's Ozzfest trek wraps September 4 in West Palm Beach, Fla. A headlining world tour is in the planning stages for early 2005.

JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford recently spoke to MTV.com about the group's upcoming studio album, due on December 28 through Epic Records.
Asked about the band's decision to release the new album in late December, which should enable the CD to debut high in the charts, Halford said, "We're not thinking of any of that. We're considering it more like a holiday metal gift to all of our fans. We wanted to have a record out this year, and with the touring that we had scheduled, this is the only time we could get it out."
Regarding the musical direction of the new record, Halford said that they're revisiting many of their past sounds and vibes without sounding retro. "There's always a certain amount of tradition and heritage that comes with PRIEST music," he said. "So you'll get all the fierceness and the intensity you've expected, you'll get a lot of drama and a lot of adventure in the music and also you'll get a taste of our reflections on the current metal climate.
"We have the liberty to do pretty much anything we want because we've carved a very wide niche for ourselves in metal," Halford continued. "We're quite happy exploring all these different possibilities to come up with the best record we can possibly make.
"There's one song that I think is going to take people's heads off," he added. "It's very long and powerful, and it covers a lot of emotions, and features a lot of tempo changes. The inspiration for that came out of a unique environment in Great Britain, but I can't tell you what it is. We're being really careful what we say about this record because, in this age of instant communication, we don't want to accidentally deliver the birthday present before the birthday."

BLABBERMOUTH.NET can be the first to report that JUDAS PRIEST have set "Angel of Retribution" as the title of their brand-new album, due on February 1, 2005 (January 31, 2005 internationally) via Sony/Epic Records. Songs slated to appear on the CD include "Judas Rising", "Deal with the Devil", "Revolution", "Worth Fighting For" and "Hellrider". The first single from the album is expected to be "Revolution", although this could change between now and the song's projected radio impact date.
According to a BLABBERMOUTH.NET source who has heard the aforementioned tracks, "This album is unmistakably JUDAS PRIEST...no other band sounds quite like them. The songs we've heard pay tribute to classic PRIEST albums of years gone by, yet have a fully modern sound as well. This is pure metal and it sounds huge."
As previously reported, the initial shipment of the CD will include a bonus DVD filmed during the band's June shows in Barcelona and Valencia, Spain. A European tour in support of the album will kick off in late February.

JUDAS PRIEST lead guitarist Glenn Tipton has told Launch Radio Networks that the title and cover art of the group's upcoming CD, "Angel of Retribution", refer to the angel featured on the jacket of the band's classic 1976 effort, "Sad Wings of Destiny". "Going back to the angel on the cover of 'Sad Wings Of Destiny', he's now risen up and he's the angel of retribution, so if you don't dig this, he's gonna come and get you basically, you know," Tipton said. "When you see the cover, you'll see what we're trying to — it'll all tie in."
As first reported here yesterday, songs set to appear on the band's first album with original singer Rob Halford in over 14 years include "Judas Rising", "Deal With The Devil", "Worth Fighting For", "Hellrider" and "Revolution", with the latter track expected to arrive at radio stations in early 2005.
"Angel of Retribution" arrives in stores on March 1, 2005. The initial shipment of the CD will include a bonus DVD filmed during the band's June shows in Barcelona and Valencia, Spain. A European tour in support of the album will kick off in late February. The band are expected to tour North America in the spring.

The new JUDAS PRIEST album, which is called "Angel of Retribution", is "unique," according to frontman Rob Halford. Halford returned to the band in 2003, and they toured this year, but this will be their first studio record together since 1990's "Painkiller". Halford told Launch Radio Networks that the new project already stands out for him as being special. "This record, it has its own identity, along with all of the other great PRIEST back catalogue," he said. "But I think there's something more in this record — I don't know what it is yet, I can't put my finger on it, but there's a particular strength that's coming through on this release that's gonna make it one of the unique standouts in the PRIEST works."
"Angel of Retribution" comes out February 28 in Europe and March 1 in the U.S. The first single will be "Revolution".
JUDAS PRIEST's 2005 world tour starts February 23 in Copenhagen, Denmark. They're looking at North American dates in May and June, but nothing's been confirmed yet.

Damien, Assistant Editor of the U.K.'s respected Terrorizer magazine, attended a listening session for the new JUDAS PRIEST album, "Angel of Retribution", in London on Monday (Dec. 20). The following is his report on the session, as submitted to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"Just attended the London press day for 'Angel Of Retribution' yesterday December 20. [JUDAS PRIEST guitarists] K.K. [Downing] and Glenn [Tipton] were in attendance, as were pretty much all the U.K. rock press and much alcohol!
"We heard five songs: 'Judas Rising', 'Deal With The Devil', 'Revolution', 'Worth Fighting For' and 'Hellrider'.
"'Revolution' is absolutely massive, a true sing-along anthem that's sure to become a live staple. Quite outrageously catchy in the tradition of PRIEST's numerous chart hits.
"'Judas Rising' is a pounding, punishing workout — repetitive, but to great effect. [Rob] Halford is in great voice here.
"'Deal With The Devil' is pure heavy metal; chugging guitar downstrokes — an obvious headbanger's delight. Expect to hear it live.
"'Worth Fighting For' is the weakest of the bunch, a somewhat undercooked semi-ballad that doesn't really go anywhere.
"'Hellrider' is akin to something off 'Painkiller', truly amazing axework from Glenn and K.K. They've really excelled themselves on this album.
"There are also no less then TWO bass intros among these five, which is highly unusual, as Ian Hill only ever got two in the entire back catalog before! ('The Rage' and 'Love Bites').
"Overall, this absolutely wipes the floor with the last two albums, though it's unlikely to top 'Painkiller' or 'Screaming For Vengeance'. However as Glenn told me, this is 'just the next JUDAS PRIEST album. We've got at least 2 or 3 more albums in us...' "
As previously reported, JUDAS PRIEST's new single, "Revolution", is scheduled to go for radio adds on January 3. "Angel of Retribution" is slated for release on March 1 via Epic.
Watch for a full report/feature on JUDAS PRIEST in an upcoming issue of Terrorizer magazine.

JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford recently spoke to Revolver magazine about the group's much anticipated new studio album, "Angel of Retribution", due on March 1 via Epic Records. An excerpt from the interview follows:
Revolver: Any thoughts on the new album?
Rob Halford: "It's everything that you want in a PRIEST record. It's got all the ferocity, strength, and anger, those massive landscapes of music we're famous for. It's a pedigree of all the great experiences that PRIEST have displayed over the years. And it's got great flow — 'Sad Wings of Destiny', 'Screaming for Vengeance', 'British Steel' spring to mind, where there's this journeyesque kind of vibe to the music, the kind of thing you can put on and go all the way through and enjoy. There are no laborious moments. It's just another display of the writing team of [guitarist Glenn] Tipton, Halford, and [guitarist K.K.] Downing creating some special metal magic."
Revolver: Did being on Ozzfest and surrounded by all those young bands have any influence on your new music?
Rob Halford: "No. Actually, it was probably the other way around. But we're not blind to what's going on around us. We're very open-minded — which is not to say we try and emulate and take what's going on around us into our world. We don't go out of our way to get somebody's record, sit down, scrutinize it, and say, 'We'll do that next time.' It's just being aware of our surroundings."
Revolver: There have been rumors of guests on the new album.
Rob Halford: "There aren't, but I love it when people start speculating. It just shows their interest, that the rumor mill is alive and well around the band. It's PRIEST. The reunion is more than enough to give people."

Former JUDAS PRIEST/current ICED EARTH vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens has launched his official web site at www.TimRipperOwens.com. Owens has just completed work on his first solo demo recording with a view towards landing a record deal. "In the meantime I've got a few more killer tracks that aren't on the demo, and I think they are the best yet, so it's going real good!" Tim told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "After I sign a deal, I will lock myself in the studio and get it done (with producer Jim Morris). "On guitars will be John Comprix (13 FACES, SPAWN)," Owens continued. "Not sure about drums, but I hope it's either Bobby [Jarzombek] from ICED EARTH or Jeff Plate from TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA/SAVATAGE! Maybe a few guests thrown in... I would love to get Scott Ian [ANTHRAX] on a track or two! "The project doesn't have a name yet... Some [suggested] RIP, but I thought I would get the fans to come up with something! The influence of the music would lean toward... PRIEST/SABBATH/PANTERA without the real heavy vocals!"

JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing recently spoke to Blistering.com about the group's new album, "Angel of Retribution", and illegal music downloading, among other topics. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:
Blistering.com: Do you have same feeling upon the completion of "Angel…" as you did for "British Steel" or "Screaming For Vengeance"?
K.K. Downing: "Yeah, a bit of anticipation, a bit of nervousness. It's like giving birth but you can't see the baby (laughs). I kinda have a feeling…. I hope it's a record that restores everyone's faith and confidence in not just us, but heavy metal as well. Timing is very important. We've said that our whole careers. We've felt we've had records that we really felt would be the big one, but it didn't happen. It's funny though, I think when we've had records like 'Screaming…' or 'British Steel', I just think it's timing. I think now is the time really, I think it will all be too late. There aren't that many of us left standing."
Blistering.com: How does (producer) Roy Z compare to the other producers you have worked with?
K.K. Downing: "He was great to work with. He was Rob's guy because he's been a PRIEST fan for a while. He's a diehard PRIEST fan and he's a great guitar player. He's a hell of a guy, such a modest, cool dude. To be honest, I hope the record is successful if nothing else just for him because he worked really hard and we was dedicated."
Blistering.com: The record label to combat all of the Internet downloading is heavily guarding the new album. What is your stance on this?
K.K. Downing: "Not really, but the release date is always the release date. I know for a fact when I was a fan, I would get the buildup and it was great to hit the record store and run home with the vinyl and just have a blast. As far as we are concerned, we want to release the record, hit the road, and have it all be exciting. Not to have the energy and excitement diffused, its all the better really. As a person, I don't know too much about downloading, but I know the fans want to go to the record shop and get the article, the one the band wanted you to have in your hands. I can't say that I'm really that bothered if people get the thing for free over the Internet."

According to www.metalsetlists.com, it was announced immediately prior to QUEENSRŸCHE taking the stage at The Warfield in San Francisco Thursday night (Feb. 10) that they will in fact be opening for JUDAS PRIEST on their upcoming U.S. tour. PRIEST have yet to announce their U.S. tour plans but it is expected that they will be scheduling a headlining run in the summer. Other rumored support acts for the trek are DIO and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. PRIEST singer Rob Halford confirmed in a recent interview with Detroit's WRIF 101.1 FM that QUEENSRŸCHE were one of the acts being considered for the tour, but stressed at that time (late January) that a final decision had not yet been made regarding the trek's lineup.

The following item comes to us courtesy of the U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine:
No JUDAS PRIEST show would be complete without the prior death of several cows, but such creations are no mere off-the-peg mediocrity
"A guy called Ray Brown in the States makes a lot of our clothes," explains PRIEST guitarist Glenn Tipton. "We've worked with Ray for years and years."
"Ray was in my apartment yesterday for the fitting of a new outfit!" adds singer Rob Halford.
"To be honest, on the last tour I had a couple of things that crossed over from the Ripper days," Glenn admits. "I liked them and I felt comfortable in them. I'm just having some new stuff made now, but sometimes I resort to the old stuff 'cos it's all about being comfortable. I don't like going on stage feeling too conspicuous."
"Once we hit our stride with that look," Rob continues, "which was around 'Killing Machine', we just took it from there. The ideas tend to come from each of us individually. You can't get them in BHS. We know what we want, and I'm usually the one to go over the top, as I will be on this tour. It's part of the tradition of the band, it's expected of us and it's a lotta fun. I don't know how many costume changes I'm doing on the U.K. tour but probably a few more than Cher the last time she was here!"
"If you're going on stage and jumping around like we do," concludes Glenn on a functional note, "you need it to breathe a bit or stretch a bit, and it needs to be washable. Contrary to popular belief, PRIEST do shower occasionally. To be practical, you have to be able to clean stuff, otherwise by the end of the tour no one wants to come near you!"
Rob Halford and Glenn Tipton's entire interview with Terrorizer is available in the magazine's new issue, on sale Thursday (Feb. 24).

JUDAS PRIEST have announced that they are creating their first conceptual album based upon the life and predictions of Nostradamus. The CD will be theatrically staged and performed in its entirety as an epic musical by JUDAS PRIEST.
JUDAS PRIEST made their only live appearance of 2006 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England on March 31. This was a special performance in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity and was a tribute to Tommy Vance (U.K.'s "Friday Rock Show") who passed away last year.
JUDAS PRIEST's "Rising in the East" DVD was recently certified gold in the United States by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of 50,000 copies. The DVD was released in the USA and Canada on November 15, 2005. The disc was filmed in May 2005 at the legendary Budokan in Tokyo, Japan. The definitive JUDAS PRIEST lineup — vocalist Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, bass guitarist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis — played two sold-out nights at the venue to promote the early-2005 release of the critically acclaimed studio album "Angel of Retribution", their first new material in 15 years. "Rising in the East" is JUDAS PRIEST's first straight-to-DVD release.
Columbia/Legacy has just released JUDAS PRIEST's vintage concert DVD "Live Vengeance '82", which was previously only available on DVD as limited-edition bonus with "Metalogy" box set.

JUDAS PRIEST's NOSTRADAMUS Concept LP: A Heavy-Metal 'Phantom Of The Opera'JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford has spoken to Jon Wiederhorn of MTV.com about the group's upcoming concept album about the legendary 16th-century French prophet Nostradamus. The bandmembers, who have been working on their ambitious undertaking for more than three months, have already written 90-plus minutes of music. After they massage the tracks into final form, add solos and write lyrics, the band will choose a co-producer and begin recording. PRIEST hope to finish the project by the end of the year in time to release it in the first quarter of 2007. "Nostradamus is all about metal, isn't he?" Halford said. "He was an alchemist as well as a seer — a person of extraordinary talent. He had an amazing life that was full of trial and tribulation and joy and sorrow. He's a very human character and a world-famous individual. You can take his name and translate it into any language and everybody knows about him, and that's important because we're dealing with a worldwide audience." In addition to digging new lyrical ground for JUDAS PRIEST, the album will contain musical elements that might surprise their fans. "It's going to have a lot of depth," the singer explained. "There'll be a lot of symphonic elements. We might orchestrate it, without it being overblown. There may be a massive choir at parts and keyboards will be featured more prominently, whereas they've always been in the background before."

JUDAS PRIEST Frontman Says Don't Forget The Real Meaning Of ChristmasLaunch Radio Networks reports: It might seem funny to some people, what with all the black leather and everything, but JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford is really into the holiday season. He wishes the advertising was toned down, but he told Launch that the real meanings behind Christmas — peace and love, and the birth of Jesus Christ — are always on his mind. "It brings everybody together," he said. "Everybody's good with everybody else, and you kind of wish that would last for 364 days in the year, instead of just the one day of the year. For me, also, on a spiritual level, it's important because it's a special event that I know is commercialized, but at least we're always reminded what it's about. It's a time to feel excited about that, and what that event represents, what it means to humanity." Here's a holiday liner from Rob Halford: "Hi, this is Rob Halford wishing everyone a safe, happy, and rocking holiday season, from all of us in the JUDAS PRIEST family."

JUDAS PRIEST Looking At Mid-Year Release For 'Nostradamus' Concept Album Launch Radio Networks reports: Things are going well with the recording of the new JUDAS PRIEST album. It's a concept album about the 16th Century French prophet Nostradamus, and the band has started thinking about release dates. Frontman Rob Halford told Launch that everyone's excited about the project. "The writing sessions were fantastic — some of the best writing that (guitarists) Glenn (Tipton) and K.K. (Downing) and myself have ever created, and we're in good shape, we're recording. And finger's crossed, and with the belief that it's ready when it's ready, we should be out by the middle of 2007 with 'Nostradamus'." JUDAS PRIEST is also working out the details for a stage show to go along with the album's subject matter.
