Artemis Records has announced the signing of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, featuring legendary guitarist Zakk Wylde, to an exclusive worldwide licensing, multi-album contract. An album of all-new material, "Mafia", is slated for a March 8, 2005 release. Artemis Chairman/CEO Danny Goldberg commented, "Zakk Wylde is one of the greatest guitar players of all time and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY is poised to become one of the world's biggest rock bands".
A regular on the covers of such esteemed magazines as Guitar World, Guitar One and Guitar Player, in 1987 at the tender age of 19, an unknown Zakk Wylde was hand-picked by OZZY OSBOURNE to be his lead guitarist. In addition to his responsibilities as Ozzy's main axe slinger, Wylde was responsible for co-writing many of Osbourne's best-selling multi-platinum albums, including "No Rest for the Wicked", "No More Tears" and "Ozzmosis". The current issue of Guitar One (Holiday 2004) again features Wylde on the cover. Guitar World has recently described Wylde's skills as "skull-crushing electric prowess."
Wylde's musical mastery has spawned numerous instrument product endorsements. His signature products include four custom Gibson guitars, a custom Epiphone guitar, a limited run Marshall amplifier (which sold out in one day), EMG pick-Ups, GHS strings and Dunlop pedals. Wylde can be seen prominently featured on the current MTV series "Battle For Ozzfest".
In 1998, Wylde formed his own band, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, while still maintaining his role as Osbourne's lead guitarist. In BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, Wylde serves as sole songwriter, lead vocalist and of course, lead guitar player. To date, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY has released six albums and has sold in excess of one million units worldwide.#nosmileys

Zakk Wylde and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY were joined by an unexpected guest at their video shoot for the new BLS single "Suicide Messiah" Sunday night (Jan. 16) in Long Beach, California.
108 fans were invited to the shoot after entering a "Be in the Video" contest through BlackLabelSociety.net last week, and one of the contest winners was XXX film star Felicia Fox. Fox, who showed up in jeans and a white tank top, cheered on the band from the crowd, and even stage-dived during a portion of the shoot where Zakk allowed four fans to come onstage and pretend to play the band's instruments.
"I had a blast," Felicia said after the shoot. "Zakk and his wife Barb, the entire band, and the whole Doom Crew are the coolest motherfuckers on the face of the earth. They're like my family and I would travel anywhere just to hang out with them."
"Mafia", the new BLACK LABEL SOCIETY album, is due to hit stores March 8 through Artemis Records.

A message from Zakk on ZakkWylde.com:
"To all our Black Label brothers and sisters, Zakk here. As always we hope all is kickin' ass. We're in California rehearsing getting ready to destroy the house of blues, and doing videos.
"Just got back from Dallas where we laid our beloved brother Dime to rest. He's at god's tavern waiting for all of us, where the drinks are free! That motherfucker bought the whole bar!
"We're sitting here at rehearsals looking at photos of all you Berserkers and Branded fuckers and all the SDMF'ers worldwide. Dyer's cell phone keeps going off, and it plays Sweet Home Alabama. Stevie Van Zandt kickin' ass. You guys kick SO much fuckin' ass it's indescribable.
"Keep kickin' ass and we'll do the same. Keep sending in the photos.
"You fuck with the best, you die like the rest. God bless the US Military!
"PS...without god and family, you ain't got shit.
"Love beyond forever, your Black Label Brothers."

If you want to see something bizarre and funny, check out the clips here: www.crapshoot.tv/It is some sort of show featuring Jim Breuer and Zakk. I have no idea what this is intended for or if there is going to be any more. Here is the info from the site: crapshoot ('krap-shüt") n. 1. a dice game 2. slang - anything unpredictable, risky, or problematical; a gamble 3. a hybrid television show mixing reality, sketch comedy, and kickass music, starring an unhinged comedian and an insane rock star. WTF? People always ask us “Well, what’s the show?”<br>Unfortunately, they even ask us after they’ve seen the clips. And we’ve spent way too much time trying to come up with an all-encompassing, make-everyone-happy answer. “Well, it’s part sketch, part reality, part music blah blah blah…” It’s a rock and roll comedy show. Who? Zakk is a rock star. Jim is a comedian. Dave is a director. Murray is a writer.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY/OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Zakk Wylde went into the studio on Tuesday, January 24 to lay down his version of a LYNYRD SKYNYRD classic for the upcoming tribute album, "Heavy Helping", due later in the year via Sanctuary Records. Other artists that have reportedly contributed to the CD include METALLICA, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, SEBASTIAN BACH, KID ROCK, SALIVA, and Dee Snider (TWISTED SISTER).
C.O.C.'s contribution reportedly comes in the shape of their version of LYNYRD SKYNYRD's "On the Hunt", recorded with longtime producer John Custer in his Raleigh studio and at Sonic Wave. Meanwhile, Bach's version of "I Ain't The One" (tracked on Nov. 28, 2004 at BeatStreet Recording studio in New York City) marks the first time the former SKID ROW singer's new lineup (featuring TESTAMENT/SADUS bassist Steve DiGiorgio and ex-ICED EARTH guitarist Ralph Santolla) has recorded together. More information will be made available soon.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY/OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Zakk Wylde recently spoke to Blistering.com about his new solo album, "Mafia", and his extremely busy recording and touring schedule over the past 10 years. Commenting on the fact that he's released a staggering six studio albums in the last seven years while GUNS N' ROSES — a band he once considered joinng forces with — have yet to release one, Wylde said, “Actually, this is the way I look at it. Check this out. It was a little into 1995 when I helped Osbourne out with the recording of 'Ozzmosis'. During the recording of that album, I received a phone call from Axl Rose asking me if I wanted to get together and jam with him. I said sure, no problem. We ended up jamming, and that was when Ozzy decided to get Joe Holmes into his band as his guitarist. Of course, the jam sessions with Rose amounted to nothing because once you get the lawyers and managers involved, they just fucking ruin everything. There's no fucking fun to be had when they're involved. It was supposed to be a fucking rock band! I remember thinking to myself, 'Even if we are making a shitload of cash, will everyone just shut the fuck up and relax!' (Laughs) So it just went down the shitter. Ozzy had Holmes in his touring band while I was finishing up doing 'Book of Shadows', but I joined back up with him for 'Ozzmosis'. After that tour, I thought 'Fuck it! I have all these fucking heavy riffs lying around,' so I started doing BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. That was in 1998. That's when it really started. We did 'Sonic Brew', 'Stronger Than Death', and we toured in-between those albums too. Then I got approached to do that 'Rock Star' movie in 2000. I ended up doing that thing, and then I did the guitar shit on the soundtrack alongside the movie. That was a blast. All I did was drink beer, lift weights and play guitar the whole time. After that we recorded a live album, and did '1919 Eternal', and toured behind that. And then I got back together with Ozzy, and together we did the 'Down To Earth' album, then we toured behind that. After that we did 'The Blessed Hellride', toured behind that. Then came the DVD 'Boozed, Broozed & Broken-Boned', and after that we fucking did the acoustic shit for 'Hangover Music Vol. VI'. And now we've just pumped out this new album 'Mafia'! (Laughs) That's twelve fucking albums and tours since I jammed with Rose. And in the last ten years, he still hasn't come out with that 'Chinese Democracy' album!"

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY mainman Zakk Wylde recently answered a few questions for Argus Leader, South Dakota's largest newspaper. The question-and-answer session follows:
Q: You and Dimebag Darrell — the former PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN guitarist who was murdered on stage last year — were very close. Was it tough to pick up your guitar after hearing about his death?
Zakk Wylde: "Yeah. Definitely, for a couple days. I was like, (expletive) this. I talked to him two weeks before it all went down. He got me this guitar, it's like one of his new ones, one of the Razorbacks. The last thing I said to him was, 'I love you so much bro.' He said, 'I love you too.' The way I look at it, he's in God's tavern, and he's keeping the beer cold until we all get there. Because God knows there won't be any Crown left."
Q: Any kind of Dimebag tribute worked into your show?
Zakk Wylde: "Yeah, totally — 'In This River' every night."
Q: Is there any guitarist you'd be afraid to go up against in a riff battle?
Zakk Wylde: "No. I love all of them. I'm a huge fan of anyone who's (expletive) awesome. Anyone who takes the time out to be great, you've got to love them."
Q: You're a pretty big guy, how much do you bench press?
Zakk Wylde: "Usually ... about 375 pounds. Calf raises, 1,400 pounds. Leg presses, 700-800 pounds."
On what would have happened had he actually joined GUNS N' ROSES in 1995:
Zakk Wylde: "I think it would be what you're hearing now (with GNR offshoot VELVET REVOLVER). The stuff we would have been playing would have been slammin'. Look at VELVET REVOLVER, how awesome that album is."

Patrick Orr of Boise's The Idaho Statesman has issued the following report:
Things got Wylde at The Big Easy this afternoon, and a concert scheduled for tonight got canceled soon after.
Boise Police were summoned to the concert club around 3 p.m. after getting a call about a possible fight. When they arrived, they found that considerable damage had been done inside The Big Easy. Witnesses said the damage was done by guitarist Zakk Wylde using a baseball bat, Boise police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower said.
Officers detained Wylde and another man, Charles Hurd, for about a half hour. Nobody involved wanted to press charges, so the case was dropped, police said.
Wylde, longtime guitarist for metal vocalist OZZY OSBOURNE, was scheduled to play at The Big Easy tonight with his band, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. The gig was nixed shortly after the afternoon incident.
“The show was canceled due to illness,” Big Easy co-owner Paul Thornton said.
Thornton would not comment further.

As BLABBERMOUTH.NET exclusively reported on Sept. 17, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY have now officially confirmed the departure of bassist James Lomenzo. "The decision to part ways with James Lomenzo was a mutual one between James and [BLACK LABEL SOCETY mainman] Zakk [Wylde]," the band write in a press release.
"John 'JD' DeServio will be playing bass on the BLACK LABEL SOCIETY 'Mafia' post-Ozzfest tour. Most of you will remember J.D. from the early BLACK LABEL SOCIETY days, and we're excited to have him back rockin the low end once again.
"Zakk has always said that the bass position is like 'Mount Bassmore' and Zakk enjoys playing with many different bassists."
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will be embarking on a U.S. tour with BRAND NEW SIN beginning in mid-October. The band's latest album, "Mafia", has sold 169,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
