Former MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee phoned into the "Jackie & Bender" radio show on KISS 106.1 FM in Seattle on Thursday (Oct. 28). During the 10-minute interview, Lee talked about attending The University of Nebraska-Lincoln for his reality show, working on his autobiography with Rolling Stone's Anthony Bozza, his seemingly unlikely friendship with BACKSTREET BOYS star Nick Carter, MÖTLEY CRÜE reunion talk, his upcoming solo album, and his sons Brandon and Dylan. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:
On MÖTLEY CRÜE reunion talk:
Tommy Lee: "Yeah, I heard about that. Let's just say, all four of us haven't been in a room together and decided what the hell is going on, so it's just a rumor."
On filming a reality show at the The University of Nebraska-Lincoln:
Tommy Lee: "It's killer. You know, it's… I never got to go to college, 'cause at 17, I got a recording contract with MÖTLEY, and I bailed. And so this is an experience that I never got to experience. It's a lot of fun. There's tons of hot chicks. And I'm actually learning — believe it or not — I'm actually learning and taking tests and I have a really hot tutor that's helping me out. It's all love. It's fun."
On his friendship with BACKSTREET BOYS singer Nick Carter:
Tommy Lee: "You know how managers call other managers, that kind of a vibe?! Well, Nick's manager called mine and said, 'Hey, he's working on a solo record, would like Tommy to collaborate with him on some stuff. He's looking for some heavier-sounding stuff.' And I was like, 'Well, this is strange.' But I took the meeting. I mean, why not? The worst thing that could happen is you'd say 'No' and you don't do it. So we got together and I'd come to find out he's this ridiculous heavy rock fan — like you would never know that in a million years. We went out to his car and he played me a bunch of stuff that he was listening to, and he had everything from BLACK SABBATH to LED ZEPPELIN in his CD player. And I was lie, 'Whoa, this is crazy.' The guy is nothing like anyone would imagine."
