Nikki Sixx Talks About 'Heroin Diaries' Book
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx recently spoke to Billboard magazine about his upcoming book "Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star", due September 18 via MTV/VH1 Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster.
"The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star" offers an unflinching and utterly gripping look at Sixx's descent into drug addiction with a soundtrack, featuring James Michael and DJ Ashba (ex-BEAUTIFUL CREATURES), to match. The book is a tell-all, drawn from Nikki's 1986 and '87 journals.
Sixx found the diaries in storage and spent years compiling them for the book. He said he sees them more as a commentary on the record business than as a portrait of a lurid rock 'n' roll lifestyle.
"We have managers and record company people saying that there was this massive machine and nobody was willing to take it off the road and fix the broken wheel," he said. "It would have cost them money. It was more important to keep the business rolling than confronting me. I was left out there to die. 'Hey, let him shoot up, and don't ruffle his feathers. I want my 15%.' That's how it works."
Sixx is aware that many fans will be more drawn to the "Behind the Music"-like tales of the book rather than the look at a junkie caught up in a music machine.
"You have to be drawn to the car race because you think there's going to be a car crash," he said. "So if that's what it takes, fine. If people want to read this book to see how fucked up my life was, and to see how many drugs I took, and to read about my crazy sexcapades, then fine. But in the end, every time the book sells, it's going to put money into a bank account to keep some kids off the street."
The album will be released by Eleven/Seven Music and distributed by ADA, with a portion of proceeds donated to Nikki's Running Wild in the Night, a fundraising initiative for Covenant House.

NIKKI SIXX: 'It Wasn't My Fault' That I F$&*#@ BRUCE DICKINSON's Wife
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx recently answered several questions posed by the readers of Blender magazine (web site) for the "Dear Superstar" section in the publication's September 2007 issue. A couple of excerpts follow:
Blender: Have you always kept a diary — and do you still keep one now?
Nikki: The earliest diaries were '78, '79. I used to carry a book around and draw pictures of what the stage set would look like, ideas, band names, that kind of stuff. By the beginning of MÖTLEY CRÜE, I felt like I really had something to write down. Some of the ones from the "Shout at the Devil" era are really raw and barbaric — like, "Slept with four girls. Two were on their period. Can't remember any of their names. Me and Vince got in a fistfight. Sold-out show. 100,000 people. Nikki." And then the next one would be, "I miss my grandparents." By the time I got to about '85, my writing really started flowing. And that's pretty much how I do it now — stream of consciousness.
Blender: Your mother dated Richard Pryor. What's the thing you remember most clearly about him?
Nikki: We used to live on Sunset Boulevard, in an apartment in the Sunset Tower. I had a very young sister, and my mom would take off and do her thing — and I would watch my sister for a couple of days at a time. I have one very clear memory of playing in the parking garage with my sister and a car pulling in and my mom and Richard getting out. They were blasted. And she said, "Oh, I love you so much," and just went straight up to the apartment and left us in the garage. That's the clearest memory.
Blender: As a teenager you were a drug dealer. What did you sell and were you any good at it?
Nikki: I sold a lot of pot, acid and chocolate mescaline: We would take the mescaline and mix it with Hershey's chocolate powder; then we'd get vitamin capsules and empty them out and put the mescaline chocolate inside. Very big in Seattle in the late '70s — they'd dump the capsules out and put it on their tongue and get a faster hit. I always dipped into my profits: I never really made money.
Blender: What's the worst thing anyone's ever written about you in a song?
Nikki: Someone said that "Tattooed Millionaire" by Bruce Dickinson [IRON MAIDEN] was about me, but I don't know. It was something to do with the fact that I fucked his wife, and I think he was upset. That wasn't my fault, by the way — I want to go on the record. She was his wife, but I didn't know that. I don't think Bruce found out about it until "The Dirt" — I should have kept that a secret. DIRE STRAITS's "Money for Nothing" was about MÖTLEY CRÜE — "Money for nothing and the chicks for free … that little f.ggot got his own jet airplane." They were in a store that sells televisions, and there was a row of TVs all playing MÖTLEY CRÜE — and that's where it came from. Isn't that great?
Blender: Have you ever taken Viagra?
Nikki: I have, on the road, in the last couple of years — Viagra and Cialis. That shit rocks. We were playing somewhere, and there was this beautiful model — she came to the show and we had a great conversation and were hanging out. She was funny, witty — and we just felt something. So she says, "I'm gonna go do something, and I'll come up to the room and meet you, and we'll hang out, watch a movie." So I said, "OK." And I go to someone, "Give me one of those Cialis things that you guys are taking." So I take it … and she never showed up. That was a painful night.

TOMMY LEE: 'I Was About To Put KID ROCK In The Emergency Room'
Soon after his off-camera scuffle Sunday night with Kid Rock, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee gave "The Insider" his side of the story while hanging out at the Noir nightclub at the Luxor in Las Vegas.
"I was minding myself and then he goes and punches me on the cheek," claims Tommy. "I was trying to be the bigger man, but he was acting childish."
He added that after Kid came up and punched him, he "was ready to go in the alley and kick his ass. "I was about to put Kid in the emergency room when security grabbed me," says Tommy. "They said, 'If you move, we will break your arms.'"
Tommy went on to express why Kid probably acted the way he did, saying, "This is what people do when they have shitty albums and their careers are going down the drain."
Kid Rock has a new album coming out October 9.
Meanwhile, Officer Bill Cassell confirmed to "The Insider" that Kid Rock was cited for misdemeanor battery for throwing a punch at Tommy Lee during Alicia Keys' performance at the "MTV Video Music Awards". Kid Rock will go to court in three to five weeks to enter a plea. Cassell said the maximum punishment would be a $500 fine and six months in jail.

TOMMY LEE Quits MÖTLEY CRÜE
According to the amended complaint filed by MÖTLEY CRÜE against artist manager Carl Stubner and his three companies Sanctuary Group, Inc., Sanctuary Artist Management, Inc. and Carl Stubner Productions, Inc., drummer Tommy Lee "recently informed [bassist Nikki] Sixx and [guitarist Mick] Mars, the shareholders of MCI [Motley Crue, Inc.], that he was resigning from the band and his resignation was accepted."
According to a press release issued by MÖTLEY CRÜE earlier today, the group's amended complaint contains "newly obtained evidence" in its lawsuit against Stubner, consisting of statements from band members Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars as well as ten sworn declarations from key professionals associated with the band, "demonstrates beyond any question that Stubner was a manager of MÖTLEY CRÜE and not just the manager of Tommy Lee as he has previously claimed in press releases and legal filings. The newly obtained evidence supports and confirms allegations in the amended complaint filed yesterday in Los Angeles Superior Court that Stubner breached his fiduciary duties to MÖTLEY CRÜE by orchestrating a scheme for his personal financial gain at the expense and to the detriment of the band."
The press release adds, "Even though he received approximately a million dollars in commissions from MÖTLEY CRÜE, Stubner used his positions as the band’s manager and the manager of one of the band members to demand a higher commission for himself. The amended complaint contends that his motivation was pure greed. The new evidence also confirms that Stubner demanded tickets from the band that he resold at 'scalper' prices for his own gain."
The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages of more than $20 million for lost earnings and profits resulting from the defendants' actions. The lawsuit also seeks punitive damages because, as claimed in the amended complaint, the defendants' "despicable" actions were undertaken "fraudulently, maliciously and oppressively."
In CRÜE's original lawsuit, which was filed on June 18 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, three of the group's founding members (Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil and Mick Mars) through Motley Crue Inc., claimed Stubner forced Tommy Lee to "to become engaged in 'reality' projects that were bad career moves for Lee, harming [Sixx, Mars, Neil and Lee], the MÖTLEY CRÜE brand and Lee's own image." According to TMZ.com, the suit calls the low-rated NBC show "Tommy Lee Goes to College" a "critical disappointment and a ratings disaster," adding it painted Lee as "incoherent, lazy and incompetent" and made him "look like a laughing stock who could not carry a drum beat." The suit also claims Lee's participation on "Rock Star: Supernova" "diminished the public's interest in Lee and their overall perception of his musical talents."
Because Lee was so busy doing reality TV, the band says he was unavailable to tour with the CRÜE, thus causing the cancellation of several key concert dates. The band claims that they lost $8 million in ticket and merchandise revenue because of Lee's scheduling conflicts. The band claims these conflicts were "both real and concocted" by Stubner to "leverage his control over Lee to his financial advantage and to MÖTLEY CRÜE and Lee's detriment."
Tommy Lee's attorney Barbara Berkowitz issued a statement on June 20 claiming that Lee "is not an individual participant in the lawsuit filed [on June 18] by the corporation, Motley Crue, Inc. against Lee's personal manager, Carl Stubner and Sanctuary Management. Mr. Stubner and Sanctuary do not manage MÖTLEY CRÜE, however they continue to represent Tommy Lee personally."
The statement from Tommy's attorney went on to say that "Mr. Lee was neither consulted regarding this matter nor authorized the lawsuit. Mr. Lee has not made any allegations against his current personal manager. Mr. Lee feels fortunate to have been part of the MÖTLEY reunion tour, as well as other opportunities outside of MÖTLEY CRÜE over the past several years. It is unfortunate that others believe that they all could have made more money had Mr. Lee exclusively participated in the band that he co-founded in 1980. However, Mr. Lee is a versatile artist, and is grateful that he participated in other projects as well."
MÖTLEY CRÜE's litigation attorney is Skip Miller of Miller Barondess, LLP in Los Angeles.
This just in... Mick Marrs... still dead.

TOMMY LEE Is 'Not Going To Be In A Band Again'
An employee of Club Stereo in Southampton, New York where former MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee DJed on August 31, 2007 told the New York Post that "[Tommy] loves [DJing]. He's not going to be in a band again. He's totally focused on being a DJ now. He's totally devoted and hasn't talked about anything else."
Tommy Lee's departure from MÖTLEY CRÜE was revealed in the the amended complaint filed earlier this week by MÖTLEY CRÜE against artist manager Carl Stubner and his three companies Sanctuary Group, Inc., Sanctuary Artist Management, Inc. and Carl Stubner Productions, Inc..
In a recent interview with Clubplanet.com, Tommy insisted that he was "actually kinda over rock music… If I sit down to write a song, it's definitely gonna have beats…but just the old drum sound or cheesy rock guitars…I'm just like, ugh! I'm just tired of the same-ole."
Asked if there is an aspect of DJing that satisfies him as a musician that he can't find playing in a band, Lee said, "Yeah, it's the sounds. You sit there and you play a rock concert, and it's loud 'n' banging. But the electronic sound hits so much harder and there's something about the bass [in electronic music] that freaks me out! If you go to a club, you'll find me standing in front of the sub-woofers! [laughs] That's something that comes from DJing that I don't get from playing rock music, that big bass and gorgeous analog sound. Those sounds don't come from drums or guitars…those sounds only come from electronic drums or synthesizers! It's a whole new set of sounds you can't get with a rock band. Listen, I love rock. But with electronic, I get to taste all the flavors."

VINCE NEIL: TOMMY LEE Still In MÖTLEY CRÜE, Band To Hit Studio In January
Forget whatever rumors you've been hearing about Tommy Lee not being in MÖTLEY CRÜE or turmoil within the band. While at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp last week, frontman Vince Neil gave MTV News the lowdown on what's happening. "Well, see what happens is, there's a press release saying that Tommy was out of the band and everybody jumped on that. But when Tommy issued his own press release saying that 'no', nobody paid attention to him. So, he was never out of the band and actually I just talked to him yesterday and I talked to Nikki a couple of days ago and we're going to go into the studio in January and hopefully have a single out by March and a tour in June."
As for what the band will be working on, Vince says the album will be called "The Dirt", just like the collaborative autobiography on the CRÜE. And also like that tell-all, Neil hopes each song on the disc will tell a story from their lives.
However, the group could just as easily scrap those ideas since, in Vince's own words, "Who knows, in two weeks we'll change the title."

SIXX: A.M. To Kick Off U.S. Tour In The Spring
The Pulse of Radio reports that the rumored tour by Nikki Sixx side project SIXX: A.M. is starting to take shape, according to inside sources. The MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist and his new act will likely hit the road in late April and early May for a run through 10 or 12 major U.S. markets. No word yet on exact dates or venues.
Sixx wrote and recorded the album with longtime friends James Michael and D.J. Ashba and has resisted the idea of turning the project into an actual band. But Sixx told The Pulse of Radio that may all be changing. "It seems that people have been able to really feel that it's a band, they really feel that it's something that they can get behind and they can go, 'You know, I really support these guys in what they're doing,'" he said. "It's interesting 'cause we never planned on playing live together, and then we played live together, and that went off so well that I think we accidentally started a band."
Rumors initially surfaced that SIXX: A.M. would tour in February, although Sixx shot down those reports. The project has only played live once so far, last fall at a Utah radio festival.
The SIXX: A.M. album serves as the "soundtrack" to Sixx's recently published book, "The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star".
The CD's current single, "Life is Beautiful", is likely to be followed by "Accidents Can Happen".
Twenty-five percent of Sixx's royalties from "The Heroin Diaries" goes to Running Wild In The Night, a charity he established in conjunction with Covenant House to rescue homeless and runaway youth from the streets.
Meanwhile, the CRÜE itself is said to be "four songs deep" into its next album, but details are being kept under wraps.

NIKKI SIXX: '10 Songs Done For New MÖTLEY CRÜE Album'
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has issued the following update:
"10 songs done for the new CRÜE album so far, I'm very proud of the songs. I think we're onto some of the better songs weve had in years... Time will tell, of course. A couple of song titles on the CRÜE album are called 'A Scar On Hollywood Blvd' and 'The Saints Of Los Angeles'. As it's been leaked out before, this is no suprise... but the album is called 'The Dirt' and lyrically follows the story of the MÖTLEY CRÜE bestseller 'The Dirt'.
"It's challenging and exciting to have to write the songs into time capsules spreading over years... I've written a lot of songs with Mick Mars [guitar], of course, along with James Micheal, Marti Frederiksen and DJ Ashba... The chemistry in the studio as we're writing is unbelievable. I look forward to leaking some to you all in the next few months...
"I haven't gotten anything tattooed in years except 'Tag Here' on my toe.... I think it's time to step it up, I'm feeling the itch. Kat's [von D] gonna do one probably this weekend. I've been wanting to get 'Los Angeles' tattooed on me for ages, and then the other day I noticed Kat has it on her left shoulder. We both have had so much happen in our lives in this city, why not make it permanent? The band started it here, I've died here, had kids, married and divorced here.... my life is in 'Los Angeles'...
"Proudly not smoking still and still sober seven years this July... Amazing the desicions you make when you think of others first.... and you get that by becoming selfless and that is a huge part of getting to the core of your issues.
"What a fucking great year... I can feel it in my bones."

Tommy Lee Says Motley Crue World Tour Will Kick Off July 4, 2008
Tommy Lee has revealed that Motley Crue's upcoming world tour will kick off on July 4, 2008. The tour is expected to coincide with the release of the group's ninth studio album, titled "The Dirt", which is tentatively due on July 8. A yet-to-be-named single will arrive at radio stations on May 7.
Although it was reported last fall that drummer Tommy Lee had again quit the band over legal issues, he and the group have apparently reconciled. Nope! I never quit! Silly rumors! We're all together!" Tommy wrote in a February 25, 2008 online posting. "We're goin' on a world tour starting July 4th!!"
Nikki Sixx wrote in a recent online update, "10 songs done for the new CRÜE album so far, I'm very proud of the songs. "The studio has been flowing nicely. We we're all together again today plotting, planning, designing, listening and the band seems to have the old bite back, but we will let you be the judge of that when it's time.
I do know the people around us, the ones we can trust are feeling the magic from the songs, so maybe it's not only in our heads...? Aah, ha."
Stay tuned for further updates on the progress of the band's new album.

NIKKI SIXX Named the President of Eleven Seven Records and Claims that 'There's Something Magical" On New Record
Billboard.com reports that MÖTLEY CRÜE/SIXX: A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx has been named the president of Eleven Seven Records.
"I've had enough success and enough misfires in a career that's lasted over 25 years that I can go back and draw on that experience, and I think that's helpful for the artists," Sixx said. "When I go into rehearsal rooms and meet with bands, they're genuinely excited to be with me because of what I've done as an artist, not because of anything else. There's that whole celebrity rock star thing, and artists are into artists who have been able to achieve success their way."
Sixx will oversee a roster that includes BUCKCHERRY, TRAPT, DROWNING POOL, MARION RAVEN and up-and-coming rock outfit CHOSEN SON.
Speaking to Billboard.com about CRÜE's forthcoming studio album, "The Dirt", Sixx said, "It's just about finished. I've got to tell you, I've been writing songs for a long time, and there's something magical on this record. You make records, and you do the very best that you can do and you like them. And then sometimes you listen back and you go, 'You know, about 50% of that album was really magical and 50% was just kinda jammin' and rock'n'rollin and it was cool.' This is one of those albums that I just feel it in my stomach that something's happening with the band. There's a newfound energy in the songs. It's just a rebirth of that really dirty, rock and roll side of MÖTLEY CRÜE."

MÖTLEY CRÜE: To Webcast Press Conference
The Pulse of Radio reports that MÖTLEY CRÜE's upcoming press conference on April 15 in Los Angeles will be streamed live on the web and broadcast live on the Fuse cable music channel, according to sources at the band's management company. The source indicated that the webcast will be handled by "Microsoft," although it wasn't clear whether that meant MSN.com. The event is tentatively set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will include what's being billed as a "colossal" announcement. Although management has denied reports that the group will be unveiling a festival-type "Cruefest" tour, it did confirm that up to two dozen other acts will be involved.
Some of the groups potentially participating include BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, DROWNING POOL, and CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx's side project, SIXX: A.M.
MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil announced from the stage Thursday night (April 3) during his performance in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida at the free weekly Clematis By Night party that CRÜE will kick off its upcoming tour at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach.

MÖTLEY CRÜE: Unveil 'Crüe Fest 08' Details
MÖTLEY CRÜE has revealed that the band will be headlining The Mötley Crüe's - Crüe Fest 08, also featuring BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, SIXX A.M. and TRAPT. The tour is slated to kick off on July 1st at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach Florida, and wind down in Pittsburgh, PA at the Post Gazette Pavilion. Mötley Crüe also revealed today at the conference that their new album.” Saints of Los Angeles" will be released on June 17th. Dressed in all black and sporting a white leather jacket bassist Nikki Sixx, a very tanned Vince Neil, drummer Tommy Lee, and guitarist Mick Mars took the podium at about 4:20 P.M. PST. Lee began the press conference by stating when asked how Crüe Fest 08 came together, asked the band, 'How long have we been waiting to do this dudes?' Mötley Crüe responded, 'Forever.'. Tommy stated, "This is going to be so much fun. This is something that we have been looking forward to for a long time. We talked about for a long time. Hopefully, this thing transpires into something of an Ozzfest and carries on for years and years. Which will be badass right?" I can tell you one thing, we are going to have more fun than humans can possibly can." Nikki Sixx also discussed how the group chose the bands that are going to be on Crüe Fest 08. Sixx says: "First of all, to have hits songs. That is important to us that the bands aren't just run of the mill bands. We wanted the bands to have amazing songs. We are also looking for bands that live the rock and roll lifestyle, because that is what we are taking around the country is Rock and Roll and the lifestyle. These bands all stand up for that. They all have amazing songs. They all look and smell, and I imagine some of you will find out will taste like Rock Stars." The audience cheered! It was announced at the conference, the new Crüe single, 'Saints Of Los Angeles' was released to rock radio today and has already entered the charts in both U.S. and Canada. The Mötley Crüe Album,” Saints of Los Angeles" is slated to be released on June 17th. Neil commented on the new album. Vince says, "Well the album is called Saints Of Los Angeles. It represents us, it is Mötley Crüe. It is about growing up in Los Angeles. It sights, sounds and smells of Los Angeles. It is the first record in about ten years that we put out together as a real studio album. It is really worth the wait. The songs are amazing, the stories are amazing. The songs are kind of based on the stories from The Dirt. It is a great album, it's all Rock and Roll and we can't wait to get out and play the whole thing for ya." At that time, Mötley Crüe premiered their new video 'Saints of Los Angeles'. The video is black and white, and has all the famous rock and roll marquees such as The Whisky, Troubadour, and The Rainbow, and features the band performing in a live club setting. I really liked the black and old old time movie appeal. During the video all the elements that made The Crue famous flash through the video including lots of girls, and one girl with wings depicted as an angel. The bands performance in the video was captivating and truly reminded me of the old school Crue infused with passion and just raw energy. During the Press Conference, the band performed live, in which Nikki said, 'Let's do what we do best play live.' The band kicked into, 'Kickstart My Heart.' The fans were also treated to the premiere of The Crüe's first single, 'Saints Of Los Angeles'. This was a real treat, and at the end of last chorus of the song, all singers of the bands appearing on CrueFest 08 came out onstage and sang including James Michael of SIXX. A.M., Josh Todd of Buckcherry, Chris Brown of Trapt, and Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach. Here is my review of the new Mötley Crüe song, 'Saints Of Los Angeles'. The Crue recapture the Heyday of Rock and Roll on Sunset Strip, on 'Saints Of Los Angeles' and bring you back to a time that was dangerous and alive with a vengeance! Raw, Riveting, and Real, Mötley Crüe takes you back to where it all started, Los Angeles, the City of Angels. The rhythm section of Sixx and Lee shines, pounding out thunderous grooves along with the captivating vocals of VINCE NEIL. MICK MARS hooks you in from the get-go with his catchy early Crüe inspired guitar riffs 'Saints Of Los Angeles' is infused with the raw energy and recaptures the sound that launched Mötley Crüe onto the charts back in the heyday 80's genre. On the eve before the Press conference bassist Nikki Sixx told Saviours of Rock Correspondent Deb Rao, "It's gonna be a summer of excess." Fans can purchase tickets now for the pre-sale at www.therockvine.com.

MÖTLEY CRÜE: Heads Back To The Studio For Another Track
Inspired by the energy and experience of their performance with their Crüe Fest cohorts BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, SIXX: A.M. and TRAPT at the press conference to announce their upcoming summer tour, MÖTLEY CRÜE extended the production for their upcoming CD, returning to the studio this week to record one more track for their first studio album in over a decade, "Saints of Los Angeles". The album, which has a new release date of June 24, follows the story of the band's NY Times best-selling memoir "The Dirt", a no-holds-barred tell-all that features every gritty detail of the group's exploits as one of the world's biggest rock bands.
Says Sixx, "Before our performance at the press conference, we were firing on all cylinders at sound check just jamming out, and that's when the new idea came. We quickly laid it down and went to the studio to record it, and liked it so much we pushed back the release one week so that we could get it onto the album — it now has 13 tracks. It's the ultimate song to end the record with and begin the new chapter of our career."
According to Amazon.com, "Saints of Los Angeles" will feature the following track listing:
01. L.A.M.F. 02. Face Down In The Dirt 03. What's It Gonna Take 04. Down At The Whisky 05. Saints Of Los Angeles 06. Mutherfucker Of The Year 07. The Animal In Me 08. Welcome To The Machine 09.
