Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL's webmaster posted a message at the band's official site last Friday (July 8), stating that "for various reasons, the (new TOOL) album is being recorded in relative secrecy...even more so than past recording sessions and related TOOL projects." The webmaster added, "When (the band decides) to release certain details pertaining to the recording process, as well as any projected timetables, etc., it will most certainly be posted on the band's official website...this could be tomorrow, or two days from now, or in a couple of weeks or even a month from now."
While no other details were divulged, the posting did hint that "the members of the band are working hard and, as the saying goes, there is light at the end of the tunnel."
It's been four years since TOOL released its last album, 2001's "Lateralus", and drummer Danny Carey told Launch that the band prefers to take its time. "We're not pressured, I think, and we don't have a record company hanging over us, saying, 'You have to do an album every year,' or something," he said. "It's a lot more important to take our time and have something to say, and if you're putting out a record every year, how much can you really learn in one year? You know, you've got to develop as a person and develop as a player."
Meanwhile, ToolShed.down.net has reported that an August 23 release date had been set for a double-vinyl version of "Lateralus", featuring picture discs and a special holographic gatefold jacket. However, a representative for the band's label told Launch that while plans exist for a vinyl edition of the album, no arrival date has been determined.

According to a posting at Toolband.com, TOOL's brand-new album was mastered on Tuesday, January 31 at Gateway Mastering Studios in Portland, Maine by Bob Ludwig. The members of the band were present during the mastering, according to a posting on the site.
TOOL's first CD since 2001's "Lateralus" is tentatively scheduled for release in late April or early May. A video directed by guitarist Adam Jones is also said to be in the works, with members of the band preparing to embark on an an international press tour for the new effort. Photos taken during the recording of the LP, which were posted on Jones' online blog, showed that QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE's Josh Homme, MELVINS guitarist King Buzzo and ISIS frontman Aaron Turner had stopped into the studio during the sessions. It's not yet known whether the guests will appear on the album.
As previously reported, TOOL have been confirmed for the seventh edition of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which will take over the small desert town of Indio, California on April 29 and 30. The band are one of the first acts to be confirmed for this year's Roskilde Festival, set to take place June 29 – July 2 in Roskilde, Denmark. It was also reported by Norwegian national TV channel TV2 that TOOL will play Norway's Quart festival in early July. Both the Roskilde and Quart performances are likely to be part of a European festival tour in the summer.

TOOL to release "10,000 Days" in May...According to a posting on TOOL's official web site, www.Toolband.com, TOOL's new album will be titled "10,000 Days". An early May release is expected. In a recent interview with Britain's Kerrang! magazine, the members of TOOL spoke about the 77-minute, 11-song prog-metal odyssey, which is said to be packed with plenty of eight minute-plus twisted riff-a-thons, odd-tempo polyrhythms and the band's trademark, eerie interludes. "We've all been listening to a lot of MESHUGGAH," admitted guitarist Adam Jones. "I see a lot of them in us and us in them, and they really have a very experimental prog side to them. I don't think it was like, 'Okay, right here were going to play like MESHUGGAH,' but more, 'Oh my God, that's come out a MESHUGGAH moment.'" "We have the most retarded President we've ever had, and we're frustrated and that's the reason it's a little heavier this time," drummer Danny Carey told Kerrang! "That level of frustration back like when we first got the band together: we were products of that fucking Reagan thing, we were pissed off and bummed out, we had that angst, and now it's coming forth again: like it or not, we're products of our environment. We're pissed off again." "I think for me, and this is just personally, the last few years have really been crushing," singer Maynard James Keenan told Kerrang! "For me, as an artist, I needed to see on some level if speaking my mind would actually inspire people — you see the sky falling and you feel like you've got to say something. I think of prior TOOL albums 'AEnema' and 'Lateralus', lyrically, I had this idea of trying to share things and push some kind of higher purpose — enlightenment, this global consciousness thing — and everything that's going on nowadays has kind of left me a little disappointed, a little bummed. "So I think on this album I've talked more about my personal stuff, things that I needed to get off my chest," he added. "It's a little cynical and it's almost like coming from a sad place. There's some hope in it, but it's more back to rock and roll basics, just expressing some very big sadness that's from the gut." "This is our blues record, were singing the blues!" joked Carey. "The difference is before, we had that young spunk and we thought we could actually say something and help people realize these things" continued Keenan. "But now, the anger is more of a frustrated anger, and me sitting back and going, 'Okay, I'm going to shut up now, I'm going to stop ranting and trying to be chicken little telling you that the sky is falling, I'm going to just let you guys get hit in the head.'"

TOOL's new album, "10,000 Days", features some of the most elaborate CD packaging ever seen, with stereoptic lenses built right into the cover art so that fans can look through photos and artwork inside the CD jacket in full 3-D. The band has previously done equally impressive packages for its "Aenima" and "Lateralus" albums. Drummer Danny Carey told Launch that TOOL's album designs were inspired by a previous generation of rock artists. "We all grew up, I think, listening to bands like PINK FLOYD and YES and, you know, the art-rock bands that always tried to create this fantasy thing that was larger than life, you know, and that was a big inspiration for sure," he said.
"10,000 Days" was released last Tuesday (May 2) and industry reports suggest that it could sell over 600,000 copies in its first week of release, which would easily land it in the No. 1 slot on Billboard's Top 200. Sales figures will be released tomorrow (Wednesday, May 10).
TOOL is currently on a 15-city North American mini-tour that brings it to Denver, Colorado tomorrow. A larger U.S. trek is planned for the fall.

TOOL Plans Spring American Tour, Different Stage Show
Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL will return for another North American tour in March and April, according to drummer Danny Carey, who also told Launch that the band's stage show on its next trek will be different from what audiences saw this summer and fall: "The show in the springtime will definitely be different than the shows that went around this fall in America. Projection ideas will be added and changed, and props and whatnot will all evolve too, I'm sure. You know, it's just the way our band always works. We work on that kind of thing all the time."
No dates or cities have been revealed yet for the band's next American jaunt.
TOOL continues to tour in support of its fourth studio album, "10,000 Days", which has sold more than 1.2 million copies since its release last May. The CD's latest single is "The Pot".
The group begins a European trip on Saturday (November 4) in Spain.
TOOL will headline the annual Big Day Out festival tour of Australia and New Zealand, which begins on January 19. The group will be joined by THE KILLERS, MUSE, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and JET on the bill, which will hit at least seven cities in both countries during a two-week stretch.

TOOL Extends Current North American Swing
Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL keeps tacking shows onto its current North American tour, which now extends into mid-July. According to LiveDaily.com, the quartet has added concerts in Montreal; Boston; Portland, Maine; Fort Worth, Texas and others to its schedule. The trek, which began in late April with two nights in Las Vegas, was postponed from March after drummer Danny Carey tore his bicep in an accident at home.
The band has also booked another festival date, at Milwaukee's Summerfest, to add to its mid-June appearance at Tennessee's Bonnaroo event. Danny Carey told Launch that TOOL approaches festivals differently from its own shows. "It's this whole different vibe when you play at a festival," he said. "People have already had to go through so much, you know, especially if you're headlining. By the time you're on, you know, you don't wanna just drive them into the ground, you know. I think in those cases less is more, so we're happy just to play more rocking, straight ahead songs and not get too tedious 'cause it's not that kind of an environment. We'll save that for our own shows."
TOOL plays Tuesday night (May 8) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Singer Maynard James Keenan recently wrote at his MySpace page that he has been working on new music from his side project PUSCIFER and hopes to release its first album in October.
TOOL is touring behind its fourth full-length studio album, "10,000 Days".
Newly added TOOL tour dates:

TOOL Tossing Around Ideas For 'Surreal' Movie
John Benson of Billboard.com reports that TOOL is tossing around ideas for a band movie.
"It has to be a collective thing as far as the band members," guitarist Adam Jones tells Billboard.com. "Everyone has to be very happy and it has to be done in a way where people would see integrity and hard work and not just something thrown together or home movies or some sh*tty filmed live show.
"It's a selfish thing," he continues. "There's that selfish quality of what we want versus what everyone else wants. But I think at the end of the day if we get what we want, it's reflective in what other people see in that."
Jones, who is the visionary behind many of the group's music videos, says movie discussion is nothing new to the Los Angeles-based band. If the right financial backer entered the picture, it could become a reality sooner than later.

TOOL Frontman's PUSCIFER: New Album Title, Release Date Announced
PUSCIFER — the side project of TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan — has set an October 30 release date for its debut album, entitled "V is for Vagina".
"This is absolutely just put-it-on-and-move-your-butt -and-get-completely-out-of-your-head music," Keenan recently told MTV.com about the record. "This is purely body candy. It's meant to make you feel like I feel when I hear JAMES BROWN, when I hear some old JACKSON 5 or or ARETHA [FRANKLIN]. It's just that good feeling — music that makes you feel good. There's no math. Nothing wrong with math, but sometimes, it can be exhausting to be that forced, that focused. I'm a big KING CRIMSON fan, but only when I have the energy to be. Sometimes I just want to hear GNARLS BARKLEY."
PUSCIFER is comprised of a revolving door of contributors, including multi-instrumentalist Danny Lohner; songstress Lisa Germano; TELEFON TEL AVIV's Joshua Eustis; Jonny Polonsky; PRIMUS' Tim Alexander; model Milla Jovovich; TOOL guitar tech Matt Mitchell; and dark ambient artist Lustmord.
Keenan intends to release PUSCIFER's debut album without the backing of a major label. But while he'll fund the album's release in the U.S., he'll still need to license the material out for international distribution.

TOOL To Start Writing New Album 'Right Away'
TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan has told MTV.com that the band will soon be reconvening to start kicking around song ideas for the group's fifth studio album.
"We're going to start writing the new TOOL record right away," he said.
Keenan didn't say when he expected the band to start tracking the effort, when it might be ready for release or what it might sound like. But with TOOL's touring schedule wide open for the foreseeable future, he said it's time for the band to buckle down. He also elaborated on TOOL's creative process.
"The music always comes first," Keenan said. "We all get in a room, shut out all the extra noises from the other people and what goes on outside the room and just focus on the four of us, where we are that day. And then we just start making sounds."
TOOL has been nominated for several Grammy Awards over the years, and they've even won three: "Best Metal Performance" in 1997 and 2001; and "Best Recording Package" in 2006 for their most recent LP, "10,000 Days". This year, TOOL was up for "Best Hard Rock Performance" again, for the "10,000 Days" track "The Pot", but they lost the award to the FOO FIGHTERS.

TOOL: Maynard James Keenan To Do In-Store Wine Signing
According to The Pulse of Radio, TOOL vocalist Maynard James Keenan will make a rare personal appearance at a Whole Foods supermarket in Chandler, Arizona on Wednesday (April 9) to sign bottles of wine from his vineyards in Sedona. According to the Whole Foods online calendar, Keenan and his partner Eric Glomski will sign bottles of their Caduceus, Merkin, and Arizona Stronghold lines at the store's wine bar between 4 and 9 p.m.
Keenan told The Pulse of Radio that he would rather spend time with wine enthusiasts than rock fans. "Generally speaking, the people that are into wine are generally adults and respect people's space, and it's not about the person really who made it, it's about the wine," he said. "So there's definitely a calmer admiration that goes on in those circles."
The Whole Foods in Chandler is located at 2955 West Ray Road.
Keenan, an avid wine enthusiast, began his Caduceus Cellars in 2004 and unveiled his first three wines in the spring of 2006.

TOOL Frontman Planning Vegas Act
The Pulse of Radio reports that TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan is putting together a cabaret-style show for a string of dates at The Palms in Las Vegas, beginning in mid-February. According to an inside source, the shows will feature both comedy and music. Keenan is not a stranger to this kind of gig — he told The Pulse of Radio that his side band PUSCIFER (see video below) actually evolved out of a similar type of show he used to do in his pre-TOOL days in Hollywood. "Generally started off as a name that I was attaching to some of the comedy things I was doing with (comedian) Laura Milligan at this club called Tantrum which existed in the Diamond Club on Hollywood and La Brea," he said. "(We'd) have a variety show, lots of talent coming through there just kind of trying out their new stuff. So PUSCIFER was kind of like the band that would kind of close the show."
Milligan is a comedian and actress seen on "Mr. Show" and more recently in "Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny". Several performers from both projects used to work on the same gigs as Keenan.
Keenan's Vegas act will reportedly incorporate both friends and outside musicians to perform some music from PUSCIFER and other material.
