DANZIG frontman and namesake recently spoke to ex-HADES guitarist Dan Lorenzo for a feature in an upcoming issue of Steppin' Out magazine. Several excerpts from the interview follow:
Dan Lorenzo: Did the murder of Dimebag effect how you feel about performing onstage now?
Glenn Danzig: "Well I've kinda burned out on performing — well, not really performing, because when you're onstage, it's great, and the interaction with people is great. It's why you tour. You don't make a lot of monery touring because there's so many expenses. I love being onstage for that hour and a half or two hours, but the other 22 hours suck. I live here in California and if there's an earthquake or a flood and I'm on tour, I worry about different stuff."
Dan Lorenzo: But are you more fearful going onstage after the Dimebag tragedy?
Glenn Danzig: "No. We've always had crazy fans and people that aren't fans. We've always had a gun and metal check since SAMHAIN. I think at one time DANZIG and LL COOL J were the only ones to have metal wands before the show."
Dan Lorenzo: What's going on with you possibly recording with Jerry Cantrell?
Glenn Danzig: "Just trying to work out our schedules and make it happen. We're gonna do a dark Southern blues kind of record. And when I say Southern I don't mean like LYNYRD SKYNYRD, I mean like ROBERT JOHNSON. A creepy old blues record."
Dan Lorenzo: Have you ever thought about doing a reunion with the original DANZIG lineup?
Glenn Danzig: "No, not really.
Dan Lorenzo: Do you still talk to those guys?
Glenn Danzig: "If I see John [Christ, guitar] out...he's a nice guy — we say 'Hi' to each other and ask how we're doing. I talked with Biscuits [Chuck, drums] a little while ago. I have no correspondance with Eerie [Von]."
Dan Lorenzo: Do you ever look at the posts on Blabbermouth.net to see what people are saying about you?
Glenn Danzig: "No. I don't give two fucks."
Dan Lorenzo: You don't ever type your name into Google or anything?
Glenn Danzig: "No. I could give two shits."
Dan Lorenzo: You don't speak often about your political views.
Glenn Danzig: "Occasionally I'll say something, but it's not what everybody wants to hear. I think it's a more rational cut and dry point of view as opposed to a totally left or a totally right point of view."
Dan Lorenzo: So what did you think of the Iraqi election? Did that make the war worthwhile?
Glenn Danzig: "My view on war is, if you're going to have a war, you should kill everyone there."
Dan Lorenzo: So you wouldn't worry about collateral damage?
Glenn Danzig: "It's a war idiot! (laughs) You know what I mean? You're talking about war, like it's a game. It's not a game it's war! These people that are shooting back at you, they're trying to kill you and you should be trying to kill them. If there was somebody wounded and laying there I would put a bullet in them you know? It's war, it's not a game. I see all these politicians like Ted Kennedy who's a murderer in his own right, talking all this shit-your sending people out there to fight a war...this is a war! Either we're going or we're not going. Once we're there don't complain when somebody kills somebody because yopu sent them with a gun."
Dan Lorenzo: So that means you weren't offended by the prison photos that....
Glenn Danzig: "No! These people are taking innocent hostages and beheading them on TV — that should tell you you're enemy. There are no rules to war! Kill or be killed, that's war! What's worse? Beheading somebody on the Internet or abusing a prisoner of war? Were they really being abused? If that's abuse, then don't go to an American jail system (laughs) 'cause there's way worse in an American jail system. I think everybody's full of shit."

Danzig, Misfits a blast from punk past By Dave Wedge Wednesday, March 2, 2005
Underground pioneers Glenn Danzig and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein set aside decades of differences and got back to basics Monday night with a blistering, half-hour set of Misfits classics that harked back to the Hub's punk heyday. The two former bandmates had played together just twice in 20 years before their onstage reunion at the Roxy - the first of three East Coast performances - which lived up to the hype. Pale-faced and dressed in his trademark black T-shirt and pants, Danzig set the stage with a dark, muscular set of material culled from his eight solo records. Snarling and letting loose with his signature deep howl, the Revere native sounded as strong as ever fronting a power-packed band that included Prong guitarist Tommy Victor and Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly.
``SkinCarver,'' off his latest release, ``Circle of Snakes,'' was classic Danzig with its heavy metal chug and dark imagery. Similarly haunting was ``1000 Devils Reign,'' also from the new record. Some early songs were marred, however, by feedback and sound problems, as well as overall sloppiness. The somber mood in the packed, 1,500-capacity venue was shattered when a shirtless Doyle hit the stage and the band ripped into the first of several Misfits punk anthems. Danzig shouted his horror flick-inspired lyrics while Doyle riffed like it was 1983 on ``Mommy Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight'' and ``Die, Die My Darling.'' Though not a full Misfits reunion, it was enough to satiate the mixed-age crowd's old school thirst. Danzig finished up with a brash take on ``Twist of Cain,'' from his first solo album, and the angst-ridden crowd-pleaser ``Mother,'' from the same release. Among the openers, Montreal's Kataklysm hit strong with an hour of pure deathcore that had fists pumping and the pit moving. ``Serenity'' was anything but, with a pummeling death metal grind that turned the popular dance club into a true headbangers' ball. Though the Misfits set was starkly different than the rest of the night's metal menu, it was clear evidence of the early 1980s horror punkers' impact on not only punk, but also metal.
( Danzig/Misfits reunion, with Eyes Of Fire, Trivium and Kataklysm, Monday night at the Roxy, Boston. )

From www.blabbermouth.netDANZIG's "Il Demonio Nera: (The Black Demon)", a brand-new DVD collection of videos, video outtakes, alternative versions and previously unreleased material from DANZIG's "Danzig 4" (2000) and "Danzig 5" (2002) projects, will be in stores on Tuesday, June 14. Personally combing through the DANZIG vaults, Glenn Danzig chose the tracks for the "Il Demonio Nera" DVD which offer a variety of versions of DANZIG classics such as "I Don't Mind The Pain", "Serpentia", "Cantspeak" and "Until You Call on the Dark". Danzig's choice of directors for these videos was certainly inspired: Dean Karr, who directed the video for "Until You Call on the Dark", went on to direct MARILYN MANSON's "Sweet Dreams" video and IRON MAIDEN's "Rock in Rio" concert full-length; and the never-before-released video for "Serpentia" from "Danzig 5", was directed by E. Elias Merhige, who helmed the feature film "Shadow of the Vampire", starring John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe. "Il Demonio Nera" is just the latest project from Glenn Danzig, arguably one of the most versatile talents to emerge from hardcore's first wave. His most recent DANZIG album, "Circle of Snakes", was released last fall; his "Black Aria 2" CD will be released later this year, and he is getting ready to direct "Gerouge", his first feature film for Rainstrom Productions. "Il Demonio Nera" will be DANZIG's second DVD collection of vintage videos — "Danzig Archive De La Morte", which features videos from "Danzig 3" and "Thralldemonsweatlive", was released in 2003. A complete track listing and details for "Il Demonio Nera" is as follows: 01. Until You Call on the Dark (MTV version; "Danzig 4") 02. Until You Call on the Dark (Glenn Danzig performance; directed by Peter Christopherson) 03. Cantspeak (clean version; "Danzig 4") 04. Canspeak (filter pass version; directed by Fred Stohr) 05. I Don't Mind the Pain (MTV version; "Danzig 4") 06. I Don't Mind the Pain (Glenn Danzig performance) 07. I Don't Mind the Pain (band performance; directed by Dean Karr) 08. Sadistikal (B/W Version Unreleased; "Danzig 4") 09. Sadistikal (Color and B/W Version Unreleased; directed by Glenn Danzig) 10. Sacrifice (director's cut Letterboxes; "Danzig 5") (directed by Glenn Danzig) 11. Serpentia (regular verson unreleased; "Danzig 5") 12. Serpentia (alt. verson Unreleased; directed by Elias Merhige)

GLENN DANZIG: 'Black Aria II' Release Date Confirmed, Artwork RevealedGlenn Danzig's long-awaited "Black Aria II" CD, the follow-up to the original "Black Aria" (1993), will be available in stores on September 19, 2006. The album, the material for which has apparently been written for five years, is a classical, operatic piece based on Lilith, the mythological first wife of Adam, according to Danzig. "It's different from the first record but similar in a lot of ways," he said. Check out the cover artwork below... DANZIG, the band, will be embarking on its first tour of Australia since 1993 in early September. Glenn is also in the process of shooting his first feature film, "Gerouge", which he has written and will direct. "Gerouge" is based on one of the comic book titles distributed by his Verotik publishing company, and concerns turn-of-the-century New Orleans voodoo.

DANZIG INTERVIEW EXCERPTS
Michael Christopher of DelcoTimes.com recently conducted an interview with Glenn Danzig. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
On his ultra-cool, limited-edition, toy figure series called "The 3 Faces of Danzig":
"They're pretty funny. When they started sending over prototypes, I thought they were cool — they weren't dorky looking, they were different; big head, little body, it was kinda cool."
"Obviously they're collector toys — but they're toys. It's not like they're superheroes or anything, like when the McFarlane people did Ozzy and he had muscles, it was like, come on!"
On being eager to let his band's image be used when it comes to tweaking societal norms a bit:
"We actually just did a DANZIG notebook — I thought that was cool. Each page has the DANZIG logo on it, so now some kid is going to come in with the notebook with this Satanic skull and fangs, and some school teacher is going to lose their mind going 'What the hell is in my classroom? Get that notebook out of here!' Because I'm sure little kids have gotten in trouble for drawing the DANZIG skull on their notebook — now here's a book with a skull right on it!"
On sticking by his stance that he is done with touring:
"I'm not going to get on that bus anymore. I'm still in good shape and stuff, and it's so great being on stage for that hour and a half each night, but the 20 hours of the day I'm wasting my time, because I'm on the bus. The tour then starts becoming "Why am I on this, I should be home working."
On his upcoming blues album, which was rumored to feature ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell:
"I don't know if that's going to actually happen or not, because right now he's busy with this ALICE IN CHAINS thing, but it's going to be old, dark, creepy acoustic blues; guitars and vocals. It might be Hank Williams III. I did a one off show with him on the 6:66 tour, and we went into a studio for a rehearsal and it was incredible."

GLENN DANZIG Expands His Universe To Comic Books, Films
Glenn Danzig recently spoke to Steve Baltin of AOL Music about the 14-year gap between his "Black Aria" album, which reached No. 1 on the classical charts in 1992, and its long-in-development sequel, "Black Aria II". "The reason it took so long is that my touring and recording schedule for DANZIG just became so crazy and there was no time," he tells AOL Music. "I think I had it finished and written in, like, 2000, and I just couldn't find the time between touring and recording to go in, sit down and devote the time to do it." Another of those various other gigs Danzig refers to is that of comic-book publisher, through his company Verotik. Nowadays, comic books turned into film franchises are as tried-and-true as sequels. So why not have Danzig's ink-and-paper characters join the fray? He says the transition from comics to films for some of his creations might occur sooner than later. "A lot of people are calling about the Verotik characters now, and I've been writing a bunch of scripts," he tells AOL Music. One book was close to making the transition. "We did have 'Gerouge' with a production company we pulled it from, and now we're talking to two other production companies right now about bringing it there," he says of the miniseries he wrote about turn-of -the-20th-century New Orleans voodoo. As a film buff who hopes to direct, Danzig has clear ideas of several of the actors he'd love to see bring his characters into the cinematic realm. "I know that if we ever did 'Jaguar God', one of the guys I always considered for Jaguar God would be Javier Bardem," he says of the Spanish actor. "He did this really cool movie I love called 'Dance With the Devil'." Danzig also has British actor Gary Oldman at the top of his his want list. "He'd be perfect for almost any Verotik character that's creepy."

DANZIG: Complete 'The Lost Tracks Of Danzig' Details Revealed
If you've been craving new DANZIG material, then get your music player ready. On May 29, evilive will release "The Lost Tracks of Danzig", a two-CD set comprised of 26 previously unreleased tracks that span DANZIG's entire career. All of the tracks were recorded during the band's seven-album "arc" that began with 1988's "Danzig".
"Whenever I've made a new album, I've recorded more songs than were needed for the final CD," said Glenn Danzig. "The songs that make it onto the final album 'fit' or 'flow' together as a whole. Consequently, some tremendous DANZIG songs have never been released, not because they weren't great, but because they didn't fit the overall vibe of the particular album, or for other reasons."
When Glenn began the "Lost Tracks" project, the songs were in various stages of completion — some were still in demo form, some had no vocals, some needed a different mix, a new bass or guitar track, or some other type of tweaking. So, after spending months tracking down and reviewing the original tapes, Glenn entered the studio and completed the tracks, handling the vocals and finishing all instrumental recording himself.
The 26 songs on "The Lost Tracks of Danzig" are presented in chronological order; the first two cuts are "Pain Like an Animal" and "When Death Had No Name", both songs that have their roots in late SAMHAIN but evolved into two of the very first DANZIG tracks and intended for the band's self-titled debut. Fans will also find a song entitled "Angels of the Seventh Dawn", originally recorded for the 1990 album "Danzig II: Lucifuge", "Crawl Across Your Killing Floor", considered for "Danzig 6: Satan's Child", and the controversial "White Devil Rise", which was recorded for 1994's "Danzig 4p" and is Glenn's conjecture as to what would happen if Louis Farrakhan incited the passive white race to rise up against and start a race war with the Black Islamic movement. Danzig also liked to include cover songs on his albums so "The Lost Tracks" will feature T.REX's "Buick McKane" (1992's "Danzig III: How The Gods Kill"), DAVID BOWIE's "Cat People" ("Danzig 7"), and "Caught In My Eye" by THE GERMS ("Danzig 6"). One of the CD's true treasures is a sparse acoustic version of "Come to Silver", a song that Glenn originally wrote for JOHNNY CASH (who reportedly loved it), then recorded it (with Jerry Cantrell on guitar) for 1996's "Danzig 5: Blackacidevil".
"The Lost Tracks of Danzig" will also contain a special 12-page booklet with a forward personally written by Glenn Danzig, a sentence or two with the history or an anecdote for each track, and plenty of vintage photos.
Long before NINE INCH NAILS, MARILYN MANSON or GUNS N' ROSES, there was Glenn Danzig. Danzig is arguably the most versatile talent to emerge from hardcore's first wave — a graphic designer, photographer, comic book publisher and composer who writes all his bands' music. His songs have been covered by GUNS N' ROSES, METALLICA and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE. He's written for Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison. Glenn Danzig has received many titles, from the Godfather of Dark Metal to a man of integrity, but most agree that over his three-decades career, his intense musical and lyrical statements have left a permanent mark on rock music.
Founder of the MISFITS, that band pioneered dark horror/hardcore punk and has become a seminal band of the genre, despite only six years and a few albums. The goth metal-punk band SAMHAIN quickly followed and in just another few years became a noted outfit. Darker than SAMHAIN, DANZIG's music evolved into a potent mix of gothic metal and blues with a Satanic twist. In 2006, the ever-surprising Glenn Danzig released his second classical album, "Black Aria 2", which debuted in the Top Ten — imagine, the Godfather of Dark Metal keeping company on the Billboard classical chart with Itzhak Perlman and Andrea Bocelli.
The complete track listing for "The Lost Tracks of Danzig" is as follows:
Disc One:
01. Pain Is Like An Animal 02. When Death Had No Name 03. Angel of the Seventh Dawn 04. You Should be Dying 05. Cold, Cold Rain 06. Buick McKane 07. When Death Had No Name 08. Satans Crucifiction 09. The Mandrake's Cry 10. White Devil Rise 11. Come to Silver (Acoustic) 12. Deep 13. Warlok
Disc Two:
01. Lick the Blood Off My Hands 02. Crawl Across Your Killing Floor 03. I Know Your Lie 04. Caught In My Eye 05. Cat People 06. Bound by Blood 07. Who Claims the Soulless 08. Malefical 09. Soul Eater 10. Dying Seraph 11. Lady Lucifera 12. Under Belly of the Beast 13. Unspeakable Shango Mix

DANZIG: 'I Could Make A Jillion Dollars Doing A MISFITS Reunion, But It's Never Going To Happen Glenn Danzig recently spoke to Miami New Times about "The Lost Tracks of Danzig", a two-CD set comprised of 26 previously unreleased tracks that span DANZIG's entire career. All of the tracks were recorded during the band's seven-album "arc" that began with 1988's "Danzig". "'Lost Tracks' was a big undertaking, that's for sure," Danzig said. "I'm glad that these songs are finally out in the proper form, because a lot of fans have heard really bad Internet versions, or twentieth-generation cassette copies. "There is a twelve-page booklet inside explaining the history of each lost track, what I think about the song, and why it didn't make it onto the original record," Danzig added. "The song 'Satan's Crucifiction', for example, is actually one of my favorite songs, and I love it. The double guitars, the vocals — it's a great song that didn't make it to the album. The main reason was that I wrote it as a joke to piss off the label [Def American]. They were like, 'Please don't do another satanic record, because MTV is playing you guys now, and the radio is playing you guys.' I wrote that song and we called the label guy, threatening him that the record was going to be all satanic. He flew down to the studio in a rage and we wouldn't let him listen to it, and he was all pissed off." "White Devil Rise" comes from the same 1994 recording sessions as "Satan's Crucifiction", completed with famed producer Rick Rubin. Again, it's another song that could piss people off: It tells a tongue-in-cheek tale of an impending race war in response to a Louis Farrakhan speech. Its author isn't particularly worried about public reaction. "I couldn't give two fucks about everybody," Danzig scoffed. "The only thing that offends me is stupidity. Most of the world is pretty stupid. "I am not offended being called a white devil," he continues. "In fact I like it." He snickered. "I still write and sing whatever the fuck I want, whenever I want, and how I want." It's clear by the end of the album that Glenn Danzig is a man who has always followed his own agenda. "Nobody can tell me what to say or do. I don't care if my record is not the number one record. I don't fucking care," he said. "There's not much money in the record business anymore. I could make a jillion dollars doing a MISFITS reunion, but it's never going to happen. Whoever thinks I'm doing this for money can stick a red-hot poker up their ass."

I'm also very happy to have DIMMU BORGIR sharing the stage this time as they are one of my favorite bands and always wanted them on Blackest Of The Black. Should be an incredible 20th anniversary tour."
The last "Blackest of the Black" tour — which took place at the end of 2006 — focused on the U.S. West Coast and featured headliner DANZIG alongside LACUNA COIL, THE HAUNTED, BELPHEGOR and ASESINO.

MISFITS Drop Off MOTÖRHEAD Tour
MISFITS have cancelled their participation in the "Volcom 2008" U.S. tour featuring MOTÖRHEAD, VALIENT THORR and YEAR LONG DISASTER.
The band's mainman Jerry Only says:
"For the sake of our loyalty and dedication to all our fiends, the MISFITS have chosen to withdraw from the lineup of Volcom 2008 tour. The MISFITS have always held an incredibly high standard of performance and quality in everything we do. Our fans expect this and deserve it. I will not compromise their expectations for any amount of money, prestige or fame. I apologize for the inconvenience and will reschedule performances wherever possible throughout our upcoming tour this October."
Australian hard rockers AIRBOURNE recently pulled out of the "Volcom 2008" tour because the group's singer/guitarist Joel O'Keefe is suffering from strained vocal cords.
