SILVERCHAIR Hard At Work Recording New Album
SILVERCHAIR's official fan club, The Llama Appreciation Society, recently reported in their quarterly newsletter that the band is currently in Los Angeles recording their as-yet-unnamed fifth album. The guys started formal pre-production after the "Great Escape" show in April with two weeks in Sydney. They then decamped to Los Angeles with all their gear and spent another two weeks tweaking arrangements before commencing recording in late May.
The band are recording 14 songs but, as always, some of them may not make the album.
The newsletter also reported SILVERCHAIR are recording in a small studio this time around in the hope of capturing the same energy and inspiration which existed in the intimate rooms where they first learned the songs. For a more authentic "feel," backing tracks are being recorded with all instruments being played together as opposed to the usual layering.
At this stage, it looks like the L.A. part of recording will be completed shortly. The plan is then for more recording in Europe before returning to the U.S. to start mixing the album in August. If all goes well, this would allow them to release the album in Australia in November/December. This date of course is very fluid and can be influenced by many factors.

I think Pony One will agree with me that Silverchair wrote what is arguably one of the best jams of all time with "Anthem for the Year 2000"...
What say you Pony One?

One of the best jams ever recorded - agreed.
Classics that "Anthem" is better than:
"Stairway To Heaven" "Satisfaction" "Layla" "Purple Haze"
And no I'm not kidding either.

SILVERCHAIR Signs With WMG's INDEPENDENT LABEL GROUP
Australian trio SILVERCHAIR has signed on with Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group to release its fifth studio album, "Young Modern", in North America on July 24, 2007. The album will come out on Eleven: a music company, in association with Warner Music Group.
The band is already confirmed for a mainstage appearance on Lollapalooza, Saturday August 3 in Chicago and they have plans for a full North American tour this July and August. Dates will be announced shortly. While they played a handful of acclaimed, sold-out shows in New York, LA and Toronto earlier this year, the forthcoming dates will be the group's first full tour of the U.S. and Canada since 1999.
"Young Modern" is SILVERCHAIR's first album of new material in over five years. The disc is the fastest seller of their incredible career to date, having been certified double platinum in Australia in less than a month. Its lead track, "Straight Lines", has become the group's biggest hit since their 1995 breakthrough, "Tomorrow", racking up a month at #1 on the Aussie singles charts. The album is the follow up to 2002's cult classic, "Diorama", which saw SILVERCHAIR embracing melody and orchestral flourishes and combining it all with brighter, more surreal lyrics. It was a huge creative leap whose Stateside release was impeded by an arthritic condition that prevented Daniel Johns from touring or doing any promotion until a year after its U.S. release. "Young Modern" picks up where "Diorama" left off, expanding the band's sound even further by combining an infectious blend of melodic indie rock with eclectic pop sensibilities.
On "Young Modern", lead singer/guitarist Daniel Johns shared the producer role with Nick Launay (MIDNIGHT OIL, ARCADE FIRE, TALKING HEADS) who had helmed earlier SILVERCHAIR albums "Freak Show" and "Neon Ballroom". "Diorama" producer David Bottrill was brought in as mixer. Paul Mac was again on hand for keyboard duties as he was with the group's two previous albums and legendary BEACH BOYS collaborator Van Dyke Parks reprised his "Diorama" role penning orchestrations for three songs which were recorded in Prague with an 80-piece orchestra.
"It took me a long time to realize that the sound Ben, Chris and I make when we play my songs is something special", says SILVERCHAIR frontman Daniel Johns. "I've been thinking a lot since we finished the album about were this fits into the other stuff we've done. The way I see it the first album was all about naivety, the second one was anger, the third one was depression and the last one was escapism. 'Young Modern' is all about acceptance. It's about embracing who we are as band and just really enjoying ourselves. Hopefully listening to this album will make other people feel what we feel when we play these songs together because I've finally figured out that that's a very special feeling."

SILVERCHAIR SET TO RELEASE "THE GREATEST VIEW EP" THIS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18 FEATURING "STRAIGHT LINES" REMIX BY THE PRESETS
December 14, 2007 - Silverchair will release the iTunes exclusive EP on Tuesday, December 18 entitled The Greatest View EP. The six track collection features the current single "The Greatest View" which was originally on Silverchair's 2003 release Diorama and will be stripped onto 2008 editions of Young Modern plus a remix of "Straight Lines" by The Presets, Two previously unreleased Young Modern B-Sides and two videos. Full track listing is below.
"The Greatest View" is currently receiving major airplay across the country including such stations as Q101/Chicago, 99X/Atlanta, WFNX/Boston, KDGE/Dallas, Sirius, XM and Music Choice.
A little known fact is that Silverchair lead singer/guitar player and The Presets leader Julian Hamilton are great friends thanks to their Australian roots and similar musical interests. Julian actually co-wrote the smash hit "Straight Lines" along with three other tracks off Young Modern and has been a touring member of Silverchair when he has the time. Julian and Kim from the Presets were also touring members of the Dissociatives - Daniel's 'other band' with Paul Mac. Closing the circle, Daniel contributed guitar work for past Presets records as well as helping write some tunes with them so it's a family affair. The Presets have a new album set for early '08 release. Silverchair is on the verge of finishing up the second leg of their sold out US tour before heading back to Australia for the holidays. They will headline that country's Big Day Out tour in January alongside Rage Against The Machine, Bjork and Arcade Fire. Expect to see the band back in the U.S. in early 2008.
