Unreleased Nirvana Due - "Sliver" compilation to feature three more tracks from the archives
Three previously unreleased Nirvana songs will surface November 1st when Geffen/Universal issue Sliver, a compilation of Nirvana rarities and demos. The twenty-two-track CD will be rounded out with material from With the Lights Out, the Nirvana box set released last November.
Sliver marks the first time Frances Bean Cobain, the thirteen-year-old daughter of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and rocker Courtney Love, has taken an active role in her father's legacy. "We're pulling Frances into the family business," Love told Rolling Stone.
In addition to helping select the title, Frances Bean also played a role in choosing the cover image. "Courtney and I involve Frances in Nirvana/Kurt decisions whenever we can," says Peter Asher, who manages Love and the Cobain estate. "She's very perceptive and has cool ideas."
With the Lights Out was delayed for several years due to legal battles between Love and surviving Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, but there were no such troubles with Sliver.

David Wilkins of The Daily World is reporting that a crew of documentary filmmakers from Los Angeles has been in Aberdeen, Washington this week, shooting a documentary on the life of the late Kurt Cobain — one that will be narrated by Cobain himself.
The producers are drawing on taped interviews the NIRVANA frontman did with Michael Azerrad, author of the NIRVANA biography "Come As You Are".
Using Cobain's own voice to tell the story and focusing on the place where he grew up, director AJ Schnack said, is the filmmakers' way of making the grunge rock star human again — instead of the untouchable icon his meteoric rise and tragic fall made him.
"I have a nephew and a cousin who have become big NIRVANA fans," said Schnack, 37. "To them, Kurt has become this huge, larger-than-life figure. You're completely unable to relate to him because he is such an icon. That's not how I felt about him when he was alive, and I feel like that's been lost. Especially because of the circumstances of his later life, and his death, I think now it's not really about the music or the fact that he really was just a human being. And so I really wanted to deconstruct that a little bit, and what better way than to just let him talk?"

COURTNEY LOVE To Sell NIRVANA Back Catalog
According to NME.COM, Courtney Love has said she is preparing to sell a share of her rights to the NIRVANA back catalogue. Love has been in London over the last week. While in the U.K. she's had meetings about a new record deal, making a TV documentary, taking a theatre role in the West End, and been to various gigs. "I have decided that I need some co-management and a strategic partner [to help me] as it's such a huge responsibility," Love told NME.COM of her NIRVANA plans. "This is the right thing to do for my family...whoever I do this deal with, I really have to like." Love is also quoted in the Sunday Mirror (March 12) as saying that she's thinking about selling "25 per cent of the catalogue for quite a lot of money."

Love gives permission for Cobain film
Access Hollywood has learned late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain may finally be immortalized on screen with the permission of his widow, rocker Courtney Love.
Love has acquired the rights to “Heavier Than Heaven,” author Charles Cross' biography on the late grunge singer, a source close to the star told Access. According to our source, several studios are in discussions with Love to bring the book to the big screen.
The rocker also confirmed the project is “in an embryonic stage,” with a post on a Courtney Love fansite MoonwashedRose.com. "[It] has no script and no director attached, let alone stars," she added.
If deals are made and reached, this will be the first authorized look at the life of Kurt Cobain, his band Nirvana and his relationship with his wife. Love, who is currently preparing her second solo album tentatively titled “How Dirty Girls Get Clean” added in her post that if the movie is made, “it will of course be [an] A list and high end film.”
Gus Van Sant's “Last Days, released in 2005 is thought by many to be that director's unauthorized account of Cobain's life. The movie starred Michael Pitt and featured a cameo from Nirvana's former labelmate, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon.

Ewan McGregor to play Kurt Cobain?
"Nirvana" frontman Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love wants Ewan McGregor - but not how you think.
Earlier this week she acquired the rights to Charles Cross' "Heavier than Heaven", his celebrated biography on her late husband.
Now British tabloid The Daily Express reports that McGregor - who has already played a punk star in glam rock movie "Velvet Goldmine" - is believed to be Love's number one choice to play the troubled singer.
The project will be the first official film about the tragic rocker who committed suicide in 1995.

Courtney Love plans to auction Cobain items
NEW YORK - Courtney Love, widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, says she plans to sell most of his belongings.
“I’m going to have a Christie’s auction,” Love, 42, tells AOL music Web site Spinner.com. “(My house) is like a mausoleum.”
Love and Cobain wed in 1992 and had a daughter, Frances Bean, that year. Cobain committed suicide in 1994.
“My daughter doesn’t need to inherit a giant ... bag full of flannel ... shirts,” says Love, former frontwoman of the rock band Hole. “A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to ‘(Smells Like) Teen Spirit’ — that’s what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we’ll just ... sell.”
No date has been set for the auction, AOL publicist Kurt Patat said Monday.
Love, whose upcoming album is titled, “Nobody’s Daughter,” says friends support the idea.
“Everyone’s been positive and behind me on it,” she says. “We’ll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity.”
She’ll have a chance to move on from Cobain, too.
“I still wear his pajamas to bed. How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt’s pajamas?”

KURT COBAIN Image Showing Up On Lunchboxes, Keychains
Launch Radio Networks reports: The posthumous marketing of late NIRVANA frontman and songwriter Kurt Cobain continues. According to Variety, Cobain's image has begun showing up on lunchboxes, an action figure and even a key chain that doubles as a small liquor flask, all manufactured by the National Entertainment Collectables Association (NECA). Cobain's image was licensed to NECA by his widow, singer Courtney Love, who also sold a 25% stake in her husband's song catalog last year for $50 million.
The Cobain action figure features the musician wearing the same striped shirt that he wore in the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" music video.
The value of the NIRVANA catalog sale put Cobain ahead of Elvis Presley on Forbes magazine's 2006 list of the top-earning dead celebrities. The magazine also reported that the licensing of dead celebrities was nearly a quarter-billion dollar business last year.
Love's manager, Peter Asher, insisted that none of NIRVANA's songs will be used for anything that Cobain would have opposed, explaining, "We believe if we say yes to the right things, we can do both — make money and do the right thing for the catalog."
Love recently protested the unauthorized use of her husband's image in a British ad campaign for Dr. Martens boots.

Documentary On KURT COBAIN To Get Theatrical ReleaseLaunch Radio Networks reports: Director A.J. Schnack has posted a message at his online blog announcing that "Kurt Cobain: About A Son", Schnack's documentary about the late NIRVANA frontman, will open in New York City on October 3, Los Angeles on October 5 and Seattle on October 10. According to The Daily Swarm, the screenings will allow the film to meet Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences requirements to be considered for the upcoming Oscar nominations, which stipulate that a film must be screened theatrically at least once during the year of nomination. The film will play in New York at the IFC Center, in Los Angeles at the Nuart Theatre and in Seattle at the Varsity Theatre. "Kurt Cobain: About A Son" consists of footage of the three Washington state towns where Cobain lived — Aberdeen, Olympia, and Seattle — overlaid with recordings of his voice. The recordings are from a series of interviews done by journalist Michael Azerrad for his book "Come As You Are". The movie's score was co-written by DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE frontman Ben Gibbard. A soundtrack album will be released on September 11.

Whatever Happened To The Baby From NIRVANA's 'Nevermind'? The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: Whatever happened to the naked baby floating in a pool looking at a dollar bill in the famous cover photo from NIRVANA's classic "Nevermind" album? That's the question MTV.com answered this week when it tracked down the tot, named Spencer Elden and now a 17-year-old high school student in Eagle Rock, California. Elden's parents were paid $200 to allow their friend, photographer Kirk Weddle, to shoot a roll of pictures of the infant Elden swimming for the cover of the iconic 1991 disc. Now the teen admits that it's a little strange to think that more than nine million people own a nude picture of him. He said, "Yeah, it's kind of creepy that that many people have seen me naked. I feel like I'm the world's biggest porn star." Elden occasionally does interviews about his status as the "NIRVANA baby," and charges a fee for on-camera interviews. He hopes to become an airline pilot and enjoys surfing, snowboarding and playing water polo. Elden said he is a NIRVANA fan but has never met anyone from the band. He did receive a platinum album award for "Nevermind", which has hung on his bedroom wall since he was one year old. Although Elden said he feels "pretty normal" about his famous photo, he did add that it occasionally helped him with girls, explaining, "I have to use stupid pickup lines like, 'You want to see my penis again.'" Check out then-and-now snaps of the NIRVANA baby.

Nirvana’s ‘Unplugged’ Finally Heading To DVD
NIRVANA’s Nov. 18, 1993, “MTV Unplugged” taping will make its DVD debut Nov. 20 via Universal Music Enterprises. “MTV Unplugged in New York” was released Nov. 1, 1994, on CD, the first NIRVANA product to appear following Kurt Cobain’s suicide that April.
Like the CD, the DVD will include the songs “Something in the Way” and “Oh Me,” which did not appear on the original MTV broadcast. The DVD also sports four tracks from the band’s soundcheck and previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage.
NIRVANA’s “Unplugged” date is arguably the most famous in the long-running series, as the band eschewed most of its hits in favor of lesser-known album tracks and obscure covers (particularly, three MEAT PEPPETS songs). The live version of “About a Girl” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Modern Rock tally.
Here is the track list for “MTV Unplugged in New York:”
01. About a Girl 02. Come As You Are 03. Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam 04. The Man Who Sold the World 05. Pennyroyal Tea 06. Dumb 07. Polly 08. On a Plain 09. Something in the Way 10. Plateau 11. Oh Me 12. Lake of Fire 13. All Apologies 14. Where Did You Sleep Last Night

Actor Denies Being Cast As KURT COBAIN
The Pulse of Radio reports that the actor recently hyped to play late NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain in an upcoming film biography is apparently unaware of getting the job. According to MTV.com, Scottish actor James McAvoy was asked about playing Cobain and replied, "People have been saying that to be, but I haven't heard anything about it. No." The yet-to-be-titled film will reportedly be based on the book "Heavier Than Heaven", a biography of Cobain written by Charles Cross. Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, is an executive producer on the film.
McAvoy is best known for roles in "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" and "The Last King of Scotland". He stars with Keira Knightley in the new drama "Atonement", which opens in limited release on Friday (December 7).
A film called "Kurt Cobain: About A Son", in which images of the places where the singer and guitarist lived are set to actual recordings of his voice, played in limited release earlier this year.

KURT COBAIN: Cobain's Ashes Stolen from Courtney Love’s L.A. Home
The remainder of Kurt Cobain’s ashes have been stolen from Courtney Love. Love was storing the ashes in a pink bear-shaped handbag that was hidden in the wardrobe closet of her Hollywood home and believes the bag was taken by a former friend. “I can’t believe anyone would take Kurt’s ashes from me. I find it disgusting and right now I’m suicidal,” Love said.
The majority of Cobain’s ashes were spread at a New York Buddhist temple and in Washington’s Wishkah River, but Love said she kept a small amount (as well as a lock of his hair) for herself. This isn’t the first time Love has had something of her husband stolen: In March, Love alleged that thieves used Cobain’s social security number to steal several million dollars from his estate. In both cases, Love believes she knows who is responsible for the theft.

KURT COBAIN 'Loved' METALLICA, 'Detested' AXL ROSE
ANI reports that NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain really "detested" GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose, according to record business eminence Danny Goldberg.
In his memoir, "Bumping Into Geniuses", Goldberg has revealed that when Rose asked to meet Cobain backstage after a show, Kurt refused.
"Rose had the kind of macho rock persona that Kurt detested," the New Daily News quoted Goldberg, as stating in the book.
Even Cobain's wife, Courtney Love, was not keen on getting to know Rose's then-girlfriend, Victoria's Secret model Stephanie Seymour. After another show, Seymour asked Love, "Are you a model?" Snapped Courtney: "Are you a brain surgeon?"
Promoters tried to launch a tour with NIRVANA, METALLICA and GUNS N' ROSES. "There was a lot of money on the table," says Goldberg. "Kurt really liked METALLICA." But there wasn't enough money in the world to get him to share a stage with that other band. Cobain passed.

KURT COBAIN's Ashes Not Stolen After All
The Pulse of Radio reports that NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain's ashes were not stolen earlier this year despite tabloid reports that they were, according to Gigwise.com. Alan Nierob, publicist for Cobain's widow Courtney Love, said that a story alleging that Cobain's ashes were taken from Love's Hollywood home along with clothes and jewelry was "erroneously reported" and that the ashes were "never taken." Nierob issued his comments after an Australian artist claimed she would smoke Cobain's ashes in a joint as part of a performance art installation in Berlin later this month.
Natascha Stellmach claimed in Art World that she had acquired Cobain's ashes through "magic" and that smoking them would release the late singer and guitarist "into the ether from the media circus."
Inquiries about what Stellmach is currently smoking have not received a response.
