Sanctuary Records has set a February 6 release date for "Damage Case: The Lemmy Anthology", a unique career overview of the MOTÖRHEAD mainman Ian Fraser Kilmister — otherwise known as Lemmy. The two-CD compilation pulls together a wild and oft-unlikely range of tracks from right across his recording pantheon, kicking off in the '60s with the ROCKIN' VICARS and SAM GOPAL, and culminating in his collaboration with Dave Grohl on the PROBOT project in 2004. Included are some of Lemmy's extracurricular collaborations with other artists, such as when he teamed up with THE DAMNED to revive THE SWEET's "Ballroom Blitz", and later savaged the C&W weepie "Stand By Your Man", in the company of THE PLASMATICS' equally-winsome Wendy O. Williams. The JOHNNY KIDD rock 'n' roll classic "Please Don't Touch" was resurrected with the all-female GIRLSCHOOL — subsequently rewarding the aptly named HEADGIRL with a U.K. Top 5 hit. Alongside STRAYS CATS Slim Jim Phantom and Danny B. Harvey, Lemmy pays tribute to his rockabilly roots on "Big River", "Learning the Game" and "Matchbox" — although another CARL PERKINS number, "Blue Suede Shoes", comes in for rather more brutal treatment in the hands of Lemmy, THE UPSETTERS, and legendary PIRATES guitarist Mick Green. Lemmy and THE RAMONES may seem like another unlikely pairing, although he wrote and recorded "R.A.M.O.N.E.S." for and with them. Elsewhere, "Hellraiser" was written for the third in the series of horror movies of the same name, while METALLICA's "Enter Sandman" is another classic given the Lemmy treatment. "Damage Case: The Anthology" was compiled in conjunction with Lemmy, and he also wrote the introductory sleeve-notes for the album. The track listing is as follows: CD 1:01. ROCKIN' VICARS – Dandy 02. ROCKIN' VICARS – I Don't Need Your Kind 03. ROCKIN' VICARS – It's Alright 04. SAM GOPAL – The Dark Lord 05. SAM GOPAL – Escalator 06. HAWKWIND – The Watcher 07. well i'm back from the motorhead show. most excellent, lemmy and the boys can certainly bring it live and live up to that "everything louder than everyone else" motto they have. my ears are still ringing so people are gonna sound like that character from the charlie brown cartoons whose voice is incomprehensible. i do have some photos (not of great quality, it was with a cameraphone) and i should have a report up later tonight/early tomorrow. the guys played for about 1 hr and 30-45 minutes and crammed 20 songs in there. and yes, you could make out lemmy's warts from at least 15 feet away.

mav himself vs. lemmy: motorhead at the house of blues, sunset strip, 3/7/06
"who would win in a fight lemmy or god?" "lemmy!" "wrong! trick question, lemmy is god!" ---the movie "airheads"
"we want to be the band that if we moved in next door to you, your lawn would die." ---lemmy
so are the words of wisdom of one ian 'lemmy' kilmister, lead vocalist and bassist for the legendary band motorhead. motorhead is celebrating their 30th anniversary in the music biz and in that time they've survived lineup changes, record label issues, disco, new wave, punk, about 4 boy band crazes, the macarena, grunge, hip-hop, and nu-metal and have remained true to their sound, fans and image. lemmy, the only constant in the band's 30 year run, wears everyone of his 60 years, but still remains an iconic figure in rock and roll, and the band is still capable of kicking some ass, in fact, they may be as good now as they've ever been. and while they are much bigger over in europe than they are here, to quote another lemmy-ism, "we don't have many fans here in america, but the ones we do have would kill for us, and that's the way it should be". touche. i had the opportunity to catch motorhead at l.a's house of blues, a small club and certainly the way to catch this band. the band is doing a short club tour before the release another new album, which will surely be followed by another tour. so here then is what went down at the house of blues last night....
-it was quite a diverse crowd that showed up. i showed up early and was greeted by a dude that wanted me to give him $6 to help him get a ticket. he would ask me this about 7 more times. there were also two chicks who asked if me and my cohorts in line would help contribute to the "beer fund" to which i naturally replied, "mine or yours?" then there were the 4 dudes that showed up in a limo, looking like they just got kicked out of good charlotte. we also had a mix of frat guys, mohawks, dudes in leather jackets, and some beefy glenn danzig wannabe motherfuckers who made me reconsider going in the pit. life's to short and i'm almost 30 ya know? and i would be neglect to mention the guy who was dressed in a getup that could best be described as heinrich himmler meets rob halford. he's either a flaming homo or he has bodies buried in his crawlspace.
-our first band was the all-girl act meldrum who came out to the "unsolved mysteries" theme. not sure if i would have sex with any of them, although the singer has some DD's and the bassist is wearing a cheerleader outfit. they're not too bad, kinda like a more melodic L7. the most notable things about their set were when they pulled a move straight out of L7's playbook and offered any dude in the crowd to "take them home", and their final two songs, the first, co-written with lemmy, was their best of the night and they concluded with the obligatory cover of "walk". i'm not sure the singer knew all the words to the song as she forgot the 2nd verse. all in all not bad.
-in between the sets, the PA played both slayer's "angel of death" and metallica's "blackened" and you could tell who the real metal fans were by who got into BOTH songs.
-the warm-up for motorhead was a band called manntis and about all i can say about them is that they were loud. not much else, mostly generic growling/distortion without the hint of rhythm, melody, or even competent playing. i sound like a music critic now. they also made a big mistake by coming onstage and demanding people start moshing. respect is earned pal.
-after a LONG wait, we got lemmy! if you need a barometer of how cool motorhead is, let me lead you to two examples, 1) lemmy, committing 3 fashion faux pas by wearing a button down shirt with the collar up, pants so tight i though they were like robin hood tights, AND tucking said pants into boots, and somehow still pulling them off. why cause he's lemmy. 2) drummer mikkey d wearing a motorhead shirt while playing in motorhead. what's that rule that applies of never wearing the shirt of the band you're gonna go see? how does that apply when you're IN the band? and yet, its motorhead, they can get away with it.
anyway, the guys played about and 1 hour-30-45 minutes and cramming in 20 songs. some of the highlights were:
-lemmy announcing the 4th song of the evening as 'metropolis', then being reminded by guitarist phil campbell that 'killers' (from the 'inferno' album) was the 4th song.
-the two songs they did from the 'inferno' album ('killers and 'in the name of tragedy') were very good. the new stuff stands up very well with the older material.
-the reaction of the moshers when the band broke into 'no class' (from 'overkill). glad to see its not just my favorite motorhead jam.
-finally seeing why 'metropolis' was such a live favorite for so many years. its wayyyy better than its studio counterpart.
-that they broke out 2 songs ('i got mine' and 'dancing on your grave') from the much maligned 'another perfect day' record, which lemmy, jokingly, onstage called "our least popular album".
-the song 'r.a.m.o.n.e.s' which lemmy dedicated to the three deceased members of that band. i'd never heard that song before (it's an older song but i don't have the album its on, '1916". now i see why they said on that song that motorhead out-ramoned the ramones.
-the extended version of 'sacrifice', the song that proves motorhead can do speed metal too. in the middle of it, mikkey d did a sick drum solo before lemmy and phil re-emerged and finished the song.
-motorhead doing a politically inspired tune (although its an older song as well), "just cos you got the power", probably the slowest jam of the night but a cool jam, like a heavier version of U2's "bullet the blue sky"
-the band was joined on 'killed by death' by the lead singer of meldrum and she seemed to enjoy rubbing herself on lemmy. lemmy had a long on his face like he couldn't believe what was happening but at the same time with a little smirk that said "i'm 60, i got 2 huge warts on my face and i could STILL shag this gal if i wanted"
-motorhead goes acoustic! for only one song, and thankfully it wasn't a ballad, but a blues-inspried tune called, what else, "whorehouse blues"
-'ace of spades' gets the moshers into a frenzy. of course. lemmy introduced it by saying something like "here's one you may know".
-'overkill' is the finale, announced by lemmy like this: lemmy: this is our last song (crowd gives a "aww") lemmy: gimme a break now, i am 60 years old after all
all told, it was a great show as motorhead pulled out some surprises, mixed in old and new material, and played to the crowd much more than i'd heard they did. while lemmy's banter with the crowd wasn't anything earth shattering, you could clearly tell he was having fun and the audience was too his liking. if by any chance you can see these guys in a club, by all means, go, you won't be disappointed.
set list: 1. doctor rock 2. stay clean 3. love you like a repitle 4. killers 5. metropolis 6. over the top 7. no class 8. i got mine 9. in the name of tragedy 10. dancing on your grave 11. fast and loose 12. r.a.m.o.n.e.s. 13. sacrifice/drum solo 14. just cos you got the power 15. going to brazil 16. killed by death 17. iron fist 18. (encore) whorehouse blues (acoustic) 19. (encore) ace of spades 20. (encore) overkill

MOTÖRHEAD Classics To Be Reissued Mav Himself to start saving...
MOTÖRHEAD is rightfully regarded as a legend. More than 30 years of turning fans' eardrums and brains into a bloody pulp will do that. Iconic vocalist/bassist Lemmy wouldn't have it any other way.
Three of MOTÖRHEAD's most important albums — 1983's "Another Perfect Day", 1986's "Orgasmatron" and 1987's "Rock 'N' Roll" — are now getting special treatment. Two-disc deluxe expanded editions of each are being released via Sanctuary Records on March 28, 2006. Supplemental bonus tracks include single B-sides, live versions and rarities. The liner notes include essays, previously unseen photos and images of memorabilia. These reissues were prepared with the assistance of the Motorheadbangers Fan Club.
"Another Perfect Day" found Lemmy and drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor being joined by former THIN LIZZY and WILD HORSES guitarist Brian Robertson, who had replaced "Fast" Eddie Clarke. Robertson and Taylor then left the band and Lemmy recruited guitarists Phil Campbell and Wurzel (real name: Mike Burston) and former SAXON drummer Pete Gill. "Orgasmatron" was the new lineup's first full album (after having recorded four songs for the "No Remorse" compilation). Gill left and Taylor returned for "Rock 'N' Roll". These three new releases are the follow up to 2005's two-CD deluxe editions of "Bomber", "Overkill", "Iron Fist" and "Ace of Spades".

MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY: 'Rock 'N' Roll Always Rears Its Ugly Head Again' Metal Edge magazine recently conducted an interview with MOTÖRHEAD mainman Lemmy Kilmister. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow: Metal Edge: What are your thoughts on what seems to be the inevitable fate of the record industry, with digital downloads and all that? Lemmy: Yeah, it's killing itself, isn't it? I mean, they're too dumb to realize— I mean, it was fucking years ago that this started, and they just carried on doing what they were doing, blind to any advice, blind to any sort of evidence. They just kept on overcharging and kept on fucking people over, and now the chickens are coming home, you know? I think they're all gonna be out of business in ten years, you know what I mean? It's all gonna be on the 'Net. Metal Edge: Does it ever concern you that with live albums and reissues with bonus tracks, your actual new studio albums can take a backseat? Lemmy: Yeah, it does sometimes. There's so many fucking compilations that I've seen, and they very often fuck up a new album by putting bonus tracks on it. "Kiss of Death" shouldn't have "R.A.M.O.N.E.S." on it [on the 2006 Sanctuary release], and I fought like a bastard against that, but I couldn't do nothing. I got it taken off in the end, but the first pressing had it on there. What can you do? They don't tell you they're gonna do it. You only find out after the fact, and then, of course, 'Oh, it's too late to change it now.' That's the phrase that I hate the most about all my years in the record business: it's too late to change it now. [Laughs]" On the state of rock and roll in 2007: Lemmy: "It's the same as it always was — there's a lot of shit and a lot of great stuff. It's just that the media is coming back to it now because it won’t go away, one more time, and people want to hear it one more time. And they can't stand it. They keep trying to kiss off rock 'n' roll. When rap came in, that was the death of rock 'n' roll again, right? When emo came in, when new wave came in, when punk came in, that was all the death of rock 'n' roll. It's really funny, over the years, to watch it go by. Rock 'n' roll always rears its ugly head again — like, here we are, guys, you know? Deal with it."

LEMMY Slams 'Greedy' Labels Who Re-Release Albums With Bonus MaterialMOTÖRHEAD is featured on the cover of the September 2008 issue of Metal Maniacs. The magazine features an extended interview with bassist/vocalist Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister in which he speaks about a wide range of topics, including the band's 24th album, "Motörizer", C.C. DeVille of POISON, SEX PISTOLS, the upcoming "Lemmy" documentary and much more. Excerpts follow: Metal Maniacs: Bronze Records in Japan just released a series of nine MOTÖRHEAD albums, complete with cardboard sleeves and 24-bit remastering. Do you feel that in some cases the remastering and/or remixing process pisses the soul out of the music, and dulls the bite of the original recordings? Lemmy: Well, why's it necessary in the first bloody place? If they're worth re-releasing because they're out of print or something, fine, but why not put them out as they were when they first came out? Oh yeah, because some record company guy wants to give a family member a job or something equally ridiculous! And then these greedy fucking labels add bonus tracks or live songs, and totally piss on what the album was at the beginning. If it was good enough to get the band a deal and be released the first time as it was, why add all these bullshit extras? Most of the time the bonus tracks are from different albums, or the live tracks are from a different lineup, it just takes a piss on the original and the people that were involved in the record the first time around. Every time I think about it, I just wanna grab a sword and impale the guy whose idea it was — 18 years later, "hey! Remember me?!" Actually, an axe would probably be better. People tend to fear an axe more than a sword, don't they? Metal Maniacs: It's the blunt force, I think, instead of something sharp that's gonna take your head off clean. Lemmy: Yeah, so cleave the desk in half, then the axe is only gonna take your head half-off, [laughs] so it's laying on your shoulder and you're still aware, just running around all panic-stricken… So yeah, an axe is better. Metal Maniacs: You recently played a show with ALICE COOPER in Birmingham where anything metal, studded or potentially dangerous was banned from the audience, which struck me as silly. Sure, take away the wallet chains, but let the bands play at a billion decibels, and just decimate everyone's eardrums, that's fine! Lemmy: There are a lot of people like that, but the English seem to be the funniest when it comes to asinine requests. I remember one place we played awhile back, we were advised that "in case of a fire, the phrase 'Mr. Brown is in the garden' will be broadcast over the P.A." Excuse me, but what the fuck? What if I misheard it and suddenly I'm trapped in the exit tunnel with a thousand other idiots who didn't know that Mr. Brown was actually in the garden the whole time! The September issue of Metal Maniacs is on sale now. For more information, check out www.metalmaniacs.com.
