TOM MORELLO Goes Solo, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE To Reunite?
According to MTV.com, AUDIOSLAVE guitarist Tom Morello's debut solo album as the NIGHTWATCHMAN will land in stores April 24. "One Man Revolution" will feature 13 songs, with Morello playing acoustic guitar and singing lead vocals for the first time. Morello, who has performed as the NIGHTWATCHMAN a handful of times — most notably at protest events — plans to tour this spring and will perform in March at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas.
In related news, Billboard.com reports that rumors are gaining strength that Morello's previous band RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE may be reuniting for the first time in six-plus years to play the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival this spring.
After RAGE split in 2000, Morello formed AUDIOSLAVE with his old band's rhythm section of Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk. However, AUDIOSLAVE is on hiatus while frontman Chris Cornell records a solo album and has no plans to tour in support of its third album, "Revelations", released last fall.
And while AUDIOSLAVE refused to play RAGE songs live on its early tours, the band eventually began incorporating them into its sets in summer 2005.
As for RAGE frontman Zach de la Rocha, little has been heard from him since the breakup, although he is said to be on good terms with his ex-bandmates.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Will Reunite For COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVALGeoff Boucher of the Los Angeles Times reports that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, the seminal L.A. band that made heavy music into political manifesto, will reunite after a seven-year lull for one show as the headliners at the 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. L.A. Times' sources say RAGE, which played the main stage at the first Coachella in 1999, will be joined by other familiar faces for the eighth edition of the festival, which covers three days this year and begins April 27: RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, which headlined in 2003, are back, as is BJÖRK, who topped the bill in 2002. Organizers were mum this weekend and it was not clear which day RAGE or the other acts were slotted to play; that announcement is expected in the next few days. Other acts expected in the eclectic lineup: ARCADE FIRE, INTERPOL, WILLIE NELSON, THE ROOTS, MANU CHAO, THE DECEMBERISTS, ARCTIC MONKEYS, SONIC YOUTH, CROWDED HOUSE, AIR, TIËSTO and KINGS OF LEON. Tickets go on sale Saturday, via Ticketmaster. Three-day passes will cost about $250 and there will be a limited number of single-day passes available.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Managing Itself For Upcoming Reunion
Hits Daily Double reports that the reunion of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, who will appear at this summer's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, follows a winding road that included an aborted Zack de la Rocha solo project, and the three remaining members — Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford — forming AUDIOSLAVE with Chris Cornell. The band will manage itself, with Dan Field handling the solo work of Morello, Wilk and Commerford and William Morris' Sara Newkirk overseeing de la Rocha. If the group goes on to record a new album, presumably it would be on Epic. If they did decide to tour together, it would be huge.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's headlining performance at this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was confirmed earlier in the week by press representatives for the festival. The political rap-rock act, which was one of the biggest acts of the '90s, played Coachella's main stage during the festival's first edition in 1999. The group broke up in 2000 after three studio albums, one collection of covers and one live set.

COME WIT IT NOW....
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Adds More Dates
Geoff Boucher of the Los Angeles Times reports that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will join the WU-TANG CLAN for three shows under the banner of Rock the Bells, the acclaimed hip-hop festival that kicks off in New York on July 28 and hits Southern California on Aug. 11.
The Southern California show will be at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino while the third show, on Aug. 18, will be in San Francisco. The sites of the New York and San Francisco shows as well as ticket sales information will be announced by organizers on Monday.
RAGE is already the closing-night headliner of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 29 in Indio, a festival that sold out 80 days in advance due to the pent-up fan demand for the Los Angeles band. RAGE played their last show in 2000.
That Coachella show was announced as a "one-and-done" affair but the quick sellout and the harsh-priced ticket scalping already underway are among the factors in the added shows, according to sources close to the band. There's also the historical punch of performing with WU-TANG CLAN, one of the most ambitious and influential hip-hop outfits ever.
"RAGE will do four shows and just four in 2007," said Chang Weisberg, the founder of Guerilla Union and organizer of Rock the Bells. "Coachella is first, that's the granddaddy. And now these three with the WU-TANG CLAN represent a very, very special thing."

TOM MORELLO And ZACK DE LA ROCHA Reunite Onstage
Launch Radio Networks reports: Tom Morello and Zack De La Rocha, the guitarist and singer, respectively, of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, took to the stage together for the first time in nearly seven years in Chicago on Saturday (April 14). Their appearance was part of a demonstration and rally-turned-celebration for the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, an organization of immigrant farm workers who pick vegetables for big businesses like McDonald's.
The rally was meant to be a protest, but just before the march was to begin, a McDonald's rep told the crowd their demands had been met. So the rally, due to inclement weather and that fact that it was now a celebration of the news of the agreement, moved indoors at the House of Blues.
The set started out with Morello coming out alone as THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, performing several songs from his upcoming "One Man Revolution" CD. After that, De La Rocha took the stage to perform a brand new song about the event that he had written on the plane ride from Los Angeles to Chicago.
At that point Morello joined in, and the duo performed the RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE songs "People of the Sun", "Bulls on Parade" and "Down Rodeo".

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Roars Back To Life This Weekend
Launch Radio Networks reports: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will perform together for the first time in seven years this Sunday night (April 29) as the political rock group headlines and closes the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California. Guitarist Tom Morello, who's also performing at the festival on Saturday (April 28) as his political folk alter ego, THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, told Launch he's looking forward to a momentous weekend. "On Saturday the revolution will not be amplified and on Sunday, it will be (laughs)," he said. "Not an hour goes by if I'm walking around town here where someone doesn't scream 'Coachella'or 'RAGE' out the window to me, so it's gonna be pretty exciting. But, you know, rehearsals have been going great, and when those four guys play those RAGE songs, it sounds like RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, so I think it's gonna be a pretty groovy evening."
Morello and RAGE singer Zack de la Rocha previewed this weekend's show by playing a handful of RAGE songs in Chicago on April 14 at a rally for an immigrant farm workers'organization.
Morello's debut album as THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, "One Man Revolution", came out on Tuesday (April 24).
A video for Morello's song "The Road I Must Travel" premiered last week on filmmaker Michael Moore's web site.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will also play three dates on this summer's Rock The Bells festival tour, and may announce additional shows later in the year.
Meanwhile, Morello has confirmed a string of solo dates following Coachella and a few shows opening for Ben Harper. His schedule now goes like this:
May 04 - Claremont, CA - Pamona College (with BEN HARPER) May 16 - Toronto, ONT - The Horshoe Tavern June 07 - Tulsa, OK - Cain's Ballroom (with BEN HARPER) June 09 - Council Bluffs, IA - Harrah's Casino (with BEN HARPER) June 10 - St. Louis, MO - The Pageant (with BEN HARPER) June 12 - Cleveland, OH - House of Blues (with BEN HARPER) June 13 - Asheville, NC - The Orange Peel (with BEN HARPER) June 14 - North Myrtle Beach, SC - House of Blues (with BEN HARPER) June 16 - Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo Festival June 17 - Dallas, TX - House of Blues June 18 - Houston, TX - Warehouse Live June 19 - New Orleans, LA - The Parish June 21 - Atlanta, GA - Smith's Olde Bar June 22 - Charlotte, NC - Casbah at Tremont Music Hall June 23 - Vienna, VA (DC) - Jammin'Java June 25 - Philadelphia, PA - North Star June 26 - New York, NY - The Bowery Ballroom June 27 - Cambridge, MA - T.T. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE: Wisconsin Date Scheduled?
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has reportedly scheduled a date at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin on August 24.
RAGE currently has four shows scheduled this summer on the Rock The Bells tour. Following the 20-minute sell-out of the July 28 Rock The Bells concert at Randalls Island in New York City, a second New York date was added on July 29. RAGE will again appear, along with the WU-TANG CLAN, CYPRESS HILL and others. RAGE is also playing Rock The Bells dates in San Bernardino, California on August 11 and San Francisco on August 18.
Tickets for the July 29 Rock The Bells show go on sale Friday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. via Ticketmaster.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello told Launch that more touring is a possibility, don't hold your breath for a new RAGE album. "There are no plans to do that," he said. "That's a whole other ball of wax right there. Writing and recording albums is a whole different thing than getting back on the bike (laughs), you know, and playing these songs. But I think that the one thing about the RAGE catalog is that to me none of it feels dated. You know, it doesn't feel at all like a nostalgia show. It feels like these are songs that were born and bred to be played now."
Morello will also be touring this spring and summer as his political folk alter ego, THE NIGHTWATCHMAN. His debut album, "One Man Revolution", arrived in stores last Tuesday (April 24).

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Begins Countdown To...What?
Rumors about RATM are a flyin'...
Launch Radio Networks reports: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has launched two online countdowns at RATM82407.com, with one clock counting down to Monday, June 11, and the other to August 24. Sources have told Launch that if you go to the site and change the system clock on your own computer to a date after June 11, the site displays an announcement for a RAGE concert on August 24 at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. According to the site, tickets for the show will go on sale next Saturday, June 16, at 10:00 a.m.
While the Alpine Valley website has listed a RAGE concert at the venue on August 24, there has been no official confirmation of that show until now, and there is no word yet on whether it will be part of a full-fledged tour. Following the band's first performance in seven years at the Coachella Festival in April, its only other confirmed gigs are four dates on the Rock The Bells tour, in late July in New York City and in mid-August in California.
There's also been speculation that August 24 will see the release of a live album taped at Coachella or new studio material from the band, or simply an official announcement that the band is RAGE reuniting permanently.
RAGE guitarist Tom Morello recently told Launch that the initial impetus to reactivate the band was not financial but political. "People never stopped offering RAGE shows throughout the whole seven years while the band was gone," he said. "But we got together, and taking a look at the dire times that we live in and, you know, RAGE was certainly the most outspoken political voice in rock music throughout the Nineties, I mean, I think it's long overdue that RAGE comes back and has a say."
Meanwhile, Morello is keeping busy on the road as his political folk alter ago THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, with dates scheduled through this month and July.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Performs In New York For First Time In Seven Years
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE made its first New York appearance in seven years on Saturday (July 28) at the "Rock the Bells" festival at Randalls Island. The first of two shows (July 28-29) drew 35,000 fans, with tickets to yesterday's installment having vanished in 20 minutes.
According to NYDailyNews.com, "PUBLIC ENEMY made the best case for elder power. They played with a flair, verbal dexterity and intensity nearly invisible among today's most commercial hip-hop acts. The live band behind Chuck D and Flava Flav tore through classics like 'Bring the Noise' [featuring a guest appearance by ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian; photo] and '911 Is a Joke' with an inspired fury."
"Of course, RAGE remained the big draw. And they fulfilled every possible expectation. Frontman Zach De La Rocha acted as if he hadn't been let out of the house since the last time he played with the band. He exploded like a jack-in-the-box, leaping about the stage with an incendiary anger and rapping his bourgeois lefty lyrics like a human I.E.D. Tom Morello manically attacked his guitar, spitting out industrial strength leads. The rhythm section had the concussive precision of prime LED ZEPPELIN."
Check out photos from the concert at NYDailyNews.com.

Zack De La Rocha Wraps First Solo Album
Rage Against The Machine vocalist Zack De La Rocha has completed his first solo album, on which he has been working on and off since first leaving the band in 2000. Billboard.com has learned that De La Rocha worked extensively on the as-yet-untitled project with former the Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore.
Sources familiar with the album say it features De La Rocha playing keyboards and that the sound is a hybrid of "Led Zeppelin and Dr. Dre. Some of it has the power you'd expect from him in Rage."
A portion of the recording took place recently at Jack Johnson's new eco-friendly studio in Los Angeles. De La Rocha is understood to be unsigned and mulling offers for how to best distribute the album.
Post-Rage, De La Rocha has recorded material with DJ Shadow, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and the Roots' ?uestlove, but it is unknown if any of these tracks appear on the finished album. One song with Reznor, "We Want It All," appears on the 2004 compilation "Songs and Artists that Inspired Fahrenheit 9/11."

TOM MORELLO Discusses 'Justice Tour 2008'
The Pulse of Radio reports that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello will lead a shifting lineup of artists on the Justice Tour 2008, which will hit the road this spring and summer for six or more shows. According to Billboard.com, the trek will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights. Morello told The Pulse of Radio that a key aspect of the trip will be efforts to encourage participation in political and social causes at both the national and local level. "It will benefit specific good causes, whether it's repairing destroyed New Orleans, or anti-war efforts like supporting Iraq Veterans Against the War, to issues of poverty, education, environment, workers and immigrants' rights," he said. "But also it will allow the musicians who participate in the shows to physically get engaged in these struggles as well. We're gonna do, like, two days in each city and one day will be kind of like an activist workshop for fans and musicians, and the other day we're gonna play a kick-ass show."
The dates, venues and lineup for the tour are still to be finalized, with an announcement possibly coming in a few days. The tour is expected to start in mid-April.
Justice Tour 2008 is part of continuing efforts by Axis of Justice, the activist organization co-founded by Morello and SYSTEM OF A DOWN vocalist Serj Tankian. It is not clear whether Tankian will participate in the tour.
Morello will perform as his folk alter ego, the NIGHTWATCHMAN.
The guitarist will also appear this week at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, where he'll participate in an event celebrating the upcoming release of the movie "Body of War" and its soundtrack, which features music from Morello, Tankian, Eddie Vedder and others.
Morello will also join RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE at a number of European festival stops this summer.

Tom Morello Has No Comment on RATM Album
The Pulse of Radio reports: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello chose not to comment when asked by MTV.com about rumors spreading lately that RAGE is in the studio at the moment recording a new album. Morello was questioned during a shoot for "The Bright Lights of America", a new video from political punk act ANTI-FLAG. Morello plays a cranky sports coach in the video, which is taken from the title track of the Pittsburgh act's newly released eighth album. Morello called ANTI-FLAG "the best punk rock band of our era."
RAGE reunited last year for a series of concerts and festival appearances that continues in 2008. But the group has not announced any official plans to record new music.
Morello is also heading up this spring's politically oriented Justice Tour, which will feature him performing as his political folk alter ego THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, along with special guests from bands like TOOL and INCUBUS. The trek gets underway on April 15 in Los Angeles.

TOM MORELLO: To Release New Solo Album
Tom Morello of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will release his new solo album, "The Fabled City", on September 30, 2008 via Epic Records. The 11-song set is the follow-up to the 2007 THE NIGHTWATCHMAN debut "One Man Revolution". Now being billed as TOM MORELLO: THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, Morello's new CD is the first release to bear the political and social activist's birth name. "The Fabled City" was produced by Brendan O'Brien (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, PEARL JAM) and features appearances by SYSTEM OF A DOWN's Serj Tankian and Shooter Jennings.
Widely known for his unique voice as a master electric guitarist, Morello's compositions as TOM MORELLO: THE NIGHTWATCHMAN have been primarily based around the acoustic guitar. However, as his MySpace page firmly states, "You don't have to be loud, son, to be heavy as shit," and the stories and sounds presented throughout the album showcases a depth and intelligence rarely heard in the modern musical climate surrounding it. With more complex electric arrangements than displayed on "One Man Revolution", "The Fabled City" is the synthesis of his groundbreaking work as an innovative rock guitarist and revolutionary acoustic troubadour.
When describing "The Fabled City", Morello stated, "My goal was to capture the energy and emotion of THE NIGHTWATCHMAN live shows. There is a much more rocking quality to this record, solos and riffs, mixed with darker acoustic songs. I think my singing has come a long way as well. I had a lot of devastating losses of family and friends during the past two years and 'The Fabled City' is a search for hope through music and confronting injustice."
TOM MORELLO: THE NIGHTWATCHMAN will be touring heavily throughout 2008 and 2009 in support of "The Fabled City".
"The Fabled City" track listing:
01. The Fabled City
02. Whatever It Takes
03. The King of Hell
04. Night Falls
05. The Lights Are On In Spidertown
06. Midnight In The City of Destruction
07. Saint Isabelle
08. Lazarus On Down (feat. Serj Tankian)
09. Gone Like Rain
10. The Iron Wheel (feat. Shooter Jennings)
11. Rise to Power

The group's eponymous debut EP is scheduled for release on July 22. According to the band, ONE DAY AS A LION's name was "taken from the infamous 1970 black-and-white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez, featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: 'It's better to live one day as a lion than a thousand years as a lamb.' This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound." I loved Rage back in the day and I still do. They made some phenomenal albums during the 90's. My issue with them is that they are super political yet in one of the worst presidencies in history and during the war... they have been silent. It kinda calls into question their sincerity to me. Don't get me wrong, I know Morello and the band support many causes but I think they really missed a period of time that could have launched them into position for something greater than what they are.

Rage Against The Machine To Rock Republican National Convention
It's a safe bet that few of the attendees of the upcoming Republican National Convention (September 1-4) in St. Paul, Minnesota, will take a break from the expected coronation of Senator John McCain as the party's presidential hopeful to attend a certain show taking place across the river in Minneapolis.
Mainly because the headliners are Rage Against the Machine, who, according to Minneapolis' Star Tribune, will bring their incendiary politics and anthems of violent revolution to the Target Center September 3. Coming off a fierce performance at last weekend's Lollapalooza -- during which singer Zack de la Rocha was forced to stop the show three times to ask the crowd to stop crushing fans near the front of the stage -- the band will likely be plugging in and offering a less-than-favorable view of conservative politics.
De la Rocha recently called for President Bush to be "tried for being a war criminal," and during the band's Lolla set, he raged against the last eight years of Republican rule and even had a word of warning for "Brother Obama," referring to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama.
"Now, we know Brother Obama. ... But I tell you what, if he comes to power come November and he doesn't start pulling troops out of Afghanistan, I know a lot of people who are gonna stand up and burn down every office of every Senate."
In addition to the Rage show, the band's guitarist, Tom Morello, will hook up with outspoken singer/songwriter and fellow social activist Steve Earle to perform a show at a union rally on September 1 at St. Paul's Harriet Island.
Rage played a free show at the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles in 2000 that erupted in chaos when police rushed in and used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse the crowd, who they said had gathered unlawfully.
If Saturday night's headlining set at Lollapalooza is any indication, the scene at the Target Center could get very intense. Despite the appearance of chaos and a bit of panic from fans attempting to flee the crush of the crowd, festival spokesperson Shelby Meade told MTV News on Sunday that there were actually fewer medical issues during the Rage set than during Radiohead's headlining gig on Friday night, when more fans were overcome by the intense heat up front. She said most of the medical attention Saturday night was also due to fans overcome by heat and that the ones taken out of the pit on backboards were transported that way as a safety precaution. A medical worker told the Chicago Tribune that no serious injuries were suffered during the Rage set, though an unspecified number of fans were taken to local hospitals with broken bones and were to be released Monday. "It was nothing out of the ordinary for a big show," Charlie Walker, one of the co-owners of Lollapalooza concert promoter C3 Productions told the paper.
Meade also confirmed reports that "about 100" fans without tickets who had been listening to Rage from outside the festival's gates pushed down a fence and rushed the venue, but were quickly turned back by horse-mounted police.

RATM: New Album In The Works?
The Pulse of Radio reports that rumors have once again surfaced that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will enter the studio in the next few months to begin recording its first album of new material since 2000's "The Battle of Los Angeles". According to TwistedEar.com, an alleged source at Sony Music, the band's label home, said that the disc could come out in 2009, adding, "We're hopeful, but a new album is far from definite."
The news seems highly unlikely, however, with both guitarist Tom Morello and vocalist Zack de la Rocha consistently downplaying the idea of the band recording again. In a rare recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, de la Rocha said, "As far as us recording music in the future, I don't know where we all fit with that. We've all embraced each other's projects and support them, and that's great."
RAGE reunited last year for live work, most recently doing gigs outside both the Democratic and Republican conventions. Morello told The Pulse of Radio he expects the band to continue playing concerts. "The relationship between the four of us is really great now, and we've had a great time playing these RAGE shows and I think everybody's open to doing more performances," he said. "Some of these shows that we've played have been transcendent, have just been awesome, you know, both between the four of us and the relationship between, you know, the band and the audience has been pretty spectacular.
