WHITESNAKE Frontman Comes Face-To-Face With 'Huge, Black Bear'WHITESNAKE/ex-DEEP PURPLE frontman David Coverdale has issued the following update via his official message board: "I had to come on board and share this little incident that just transpired... There I was, standing in the kitchen, doing what most rock singers do when they ain't touring and posing...rinsing a cup, or two at the kitchen sink, as his wonderful housekeeper is on her [holiday]...windows wide open on this beautiful, balmy Tahoe day...when who pops up to say a surprising good morning...a HUGE black bear! Out of nowhere! Beautiful! Dude... I don't mind telling you I almost succumbed to involuntary bowel movement, I swear. Obviously the poor bugger was looking for food and was most intent on finding some in my modest 'Bide A Wee' pantry! Sorry, O Great One, says I and slowly, carefully closes the kitchen window feeling his/her breath on my hand and then proceeding to run around closing all access doors and windows while my persistent new furry pal explored all the potential avenues to enter my stately cabin by the lake. I'd like to think it was the smell of my fab cooking that seduced him/ her, but, it was only a slightly charred bagel! Man...what an experience... Lovely, I tells ya...just lovely. I'm leaving the pawprints, muddy tho' they may be, to show the ol' girl and whomever stoppeth by. Amazing stuff."

WHITESNAKE Frontman DAVID COVERDALE Describes Another Bear Encounter WHITESNAKE/ex-DEEP PURPLE frontman David Coverdale, who has lived on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, Nevada for 22 years, recently described an encounter with "a huge black bear," who came close to entering the Coverdale residence in search of food. A second incident where a bear actually entered Coverdale's house is recounted in the singer's latest online update: "Yes, it appears we have a very real problem. This was a different, much bigger bear... I estimate 450-pounder. He broke into the swimming pool, took a swim, mind you...cool as you like, broke out thro' another window, broke into a guest bedroom. Fortunately the guest left this morning, but, unfortunately, left the sliding glass door open. This is where the bear came in. I was in my office on the same floor, thank God, when Jaz [David's son Jasper] burst in saying he'd heard something in the pool. I paged the house for my assistant Mikey, grabbed an air horn canister and ran out of my office just as the bear's head came out of the room. Jesus, he was big... I ran toward him screaming, firing off the air horn and shocked the buggery out of him... He turned and scarpered out the way he came. I chased him into the garden and saw his size... OMIGOD! Thank God he ran off... no way was I gonna wrestle this bugger! Anyway, we had a SWAT team over to go thro' the house and gardens just checking everything out. Apparently, there is a great deal of bear activity in the area...more than ever. Unfortunately, they are coming down from higher ground for water and food. After all, this was/is their environment, so I can understand, but once humans move in, that's when tragedy can occur. We now have a big bear trap in the garden. Man, this is surreal. We are still in MAJOR lockdown at the ol' Coverdale residence... For some reason, I don't think these guys care for rock. I have been trying to record for the last three days and something happens to prevent me! Maybe they're DURAN fans, or something!" WHITESNAKE's video for the new studio song "Ready to Rock" has been posted online at this location (Real Media). The track is one of four previously unreleased cuts that appear on WHITESNAKE's new live record, entitled "Live… In the Shadow of the Blues", which was issued in Europe in November via Steamhammer/SPV Records. WHITESNAKE has set "Good to be Bad" as the title of its new studio album, tentatively due early next year.

WHITESNAKE Frontman On Upcoming Tour: 'We Have Some Absolutely Splendid Stuff Planned'
WHITESNAKE mainman David Coverdale has posted the following message on the band's web site:
"It is true that tour dates for 2008 are currently being put in place. We will likely start in New Zealand (Rock2Wgtn festival in Wellington) for a one-off in March. We are exploring the possibility of nipping over to Australia for a pint and a show, or two...but, at this time there is nothing positive to offer you. It looks very likely we will be having the distinct pleasure of returning to South and Central America in May, before starting our European run.
"We have some absolutely splendid stuff planned... I can promise.
"The U.S. still manages to elude us, for whatever reason, but, as always, we don't take no for an answer... so, we are still working toward something in my adopted homeland later in the year. In fact, we will try to go anywhere and everywhere we can to present our music to those who want to be bitten by the snake.
"The album is done and has been delivered to the record company as their Christmas present. We're very happy with it, as I have reported to you throughout the year of creating it. I feel it has all the elements WHITESNAKE can offer, and hopefully a little more."
The new WHITESNAKE album, "Good To Be Bad", scheduled for release in the spring of 2008, will be their 10th studio record and will feature the exceptional percussive talents of Chris Frazier, the latest member to grace the ranks of the band alongside Doug Aldrich on guitar, who also co-wrote and co-produced the album with David Coverdale and Michael McIntyre, Timothy Drury on keyboards, Uriah Duffy on bass, and Reb Beach on guitar. Chris takes over the drum chair from Tommy Aldridge, who earlier in the year left to pursue alternate musical adventures.

The others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen. 2007 was also the 20th anniversary of Def Leppard’s legendary “Hysteria” album. An album summed up by Mojo magazine in Sept 2007 as “Hard rock’s equivalent of “Thriller””. Def Leppard are also set to release a brand new studio album in mid 2008. The album will see the band adding to their incredible legacy and promises the inclusion of a very special collaboration. Having sold over 65 million albums worldwide since the Def Leppard debut release in 1980 and proved themselves one of rock music’s hardest working and consistently powerful live bands (playing to over 50 million fans in the last 15 years alone), these dates are set to be a highlight of the summer. Legendary front man David Coverdale is bringing Whitesnake back on the road in 2008 to celebrate the band’s 30th Anniversary with a vengeance...April 2008 will see the release of the first new Whitesnake studio album in over 10 years...’Good To Be Bad’ featuring 11 new, slamming Whitesnake songs, guaranteed to take their place alongside their better known multi-million selling catalogue. “It’s about time we had new songs to present to the Whitesnake Choir...This album has all the elements I enjoy about Whitesnake & more...“ says Coverdale. ‘Good To Be Bad’ is the most recent band offering, along with their in-concert greatest hits CD... ‘Live In The Shadow Of The Blues’ & ‘Live In The Still Of The Night’...voted Best DVD of 2006 by the readers of Classic Rock magazine. A year after leaving, he formed Whitesnake in late 1977 as a blues-based, melodic rock band to tour & promote his solo records ‘Whitesnake’ & ‘Northwinds’. The band then took on a life & an identity of its own, attracting not only the supporters from Deep Purple, but, a whole new audience hungry for the blues, soul & good time rock Whitesnake offered. In the early 90’s Coverdale spent 3 years working with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, on the rock classic ‘Coverdale Page’ album, before retiring from the music business for several years. WHITESNAKE's COVERDALE: OBAMA Is 'The Best Hope By Far In Restoring The Ideals Of America'
The Liverpool Daily Post recently conducted an interview with WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale. A few excerpts from the chat follow.
On the changes in the music business:
"I welcome change. It's nature's way. I can't help but laugh when I see the major record companies clinging desperately to the old-fashioned way of doing business and are being left behind in the new, technological dust. It's a new playing field, lads and lasses, and if you want to score goals you have to move with the times and reinvent how you do most things. As Mr Dylan says, 'The times they are a-changin' and I think to resist will be painful and uncomfortable, so, I'm moving on, boys and girls — you coming?"
On how Liverpool has always held special memories for Coverdale, who credits an appearance here with helping him found WHITESNAKE way back in 1977:
"Liverpool showed me incredible support on a promo visit I made to the city to be a judge in a Battle Of The Bands contest many years ago. At that time, I wasn't getting much support from the DEEP PURPLE management about putting my own band together, but when Phil (DJ Phil Easton) introduced me the crowd went nuts and I tell you, it was just the medicine and encouragement I needed at the time to go back to London and insist on the management to either support me, or let me go. So, Liverpool was absolutely instrumental in giving me my start with WHITESNAKE and I will always be grateful for that."
On WHITESNAKE 30th anniversary:
"I've never planned for success — I'm not sure you can — but I have always done the best I can at whatever I'm doing, and I believe the WHITESNAKE crowd appreciates that. I prefer live performing, but I do enjoy the creative process, taking a small thought of a melody and nurturing it through to the stage and hearing people sing along with you. It's an amazing feeling. I particularly enjoyed making the new record, as we did most of it at my house in Tahoe, so it was the best of both worlds. If you saw Lake Tahoe in the mornings, you'd understand. It's like postcards from God on a daily basis. I can already feel an uplift in the energy of the band's shows with the new songs injected in there. Lovely stuff — made a huge difference."
On ditching the hard-drinking hard-living lifestyle and swapping debauchery for dad time with 11-year-old Jasper, his son by third wife Cindy:
"Other than being a family man (as well as Jasper, he also has a daughter, Jessica, with his first wife Julia, and two granddaughters) WHITESNAKE business takes an enormous amount of my time. But I love hiking in the mountains around my home, carefully avoiding my black bear neighbours who made themselves so welcome in my home last year. I like reading, too."
On the forthcoming U.S. Presidential elections:
"I'm a Barack man — apparently, once you go Barack, there's no going back. I feel he's the best hope by far in restoring the ideals of America, the respect it has lost around the world over the past eight years. It's been hopelessly off course with the current useless 'ayporths. I can't wait to see the back of them."
