SLAYER: More Information About New Album Revealed; Tour Dates Announced If you think 6.6.06 is an intimidating calendar date, just wait. The killer reunion of all time — complete with live tour dates — is about to commence. The four original members of SLAYER — Tom Araya/bass, vocals, Kerry King/guitars, Jeff Hanneman/guitars, and Dave Lombardo/drums — the pioneers and undisputed kings of extreme speed/thrash metal, have entered a Los Angeles-area studio to record what will be their first new studio album since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss". And if that's not enough, uber-producer Rick Rubin, who helped solidify the much-emulated SLAYER sound beginning with their genre-defining 1986 classic "Reign In Blood", has taken the helm as executive producer of the project. The original team is back in place. Working closely with Rubin will be Josh Abraham (KORN, VELVET REVOLVER, ATREYU) who will produce the album. "We're real happy to have Josh on the team," said SLAYER's Jeff Hanneman. "He's a very creative and intuitive guy, he knows music, and he really gets who SLAYER is and what we're doing." The as-yet-untitled album will be released on SLAYER's longtime label, Rubin's American Recordings/Warner Bros. Records, and is expected out this fall. "Dave's been back with us, playing live, for a couple of years now, and we're all looking forward to recording together again," said the band's Tom Araya. Kerry King added, "There really is no one like Dave — he doesn't have to work at what he does, he just walks in, picks up his sticks and goes." Said Lombardo, "It feels really good being back with the same guys I started out with. The chemistry is definitely there, that's the exciting part of it, to capture that chemistry again. And that's what is happening." Jeff, Tom and Kerry have been writing songs for this new album since they wrapped their last North American tour in September 2004. "This is probably the most prepared we've been to record an album since the '80s," King added. "We've been writing and cutting demos for months." While these may change, working titles for some of the songs that will be recorded include "Catalyst", "Cult", "Supremist", and "Consfearacy". "I like to write songs that have different meanings for different people," said King, "where everyone can say, 'I know what he means,' but still get their own sense of what the song is about." But wait, this just gets better. On 6.6.06 in San Diego, CA, SLAYER will kick off a seven-week summer trek, "The Unholy Alliance Tour Preaching to the Perverted", that boasts what has got to be the genre's coolest line-up of the summer — LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON and CHILDREN OF BODOM (who will rotate the second and third slots), and THINE EYES BLEED who will open the shows. Not only is the line-up terrific, but ticket prices will not exceed $39.00, giving fans a great value for their dollar. Tour dates and all other details will be announced shortly. Confirmed dates are below. According to SLAYER's longtime manager Rick Sales, "We want to make 'The Unholy Alliance' tour an annual global event, so we decided to be smart about the design from the beginning. We chose to book most of the tour¹s shows at indoor venues, as that allows the bands and the fans amenities like air conditioning and indoor bathrooms, as well as the very best stage lighting, production, and sound and less expensive concession prices. The few shows that will be played outside will be played at night in permanent facilities with our lighting, production, and so on. Everyone wins." With more dates to be added, the confirmed dates for "The Unholy Alliance Tour Preaching to the Perverted" are as follows: Jun. 06 - Sports Arena - San Diego, CA Jun. 07 - The Orleans - Las Vegas, NV Jun. 12 - Pop's Outside - St. Louis, MO Jun. 13 - Aragon Ballroom - Chicago, IL Jun. 15 - Tweeter Center - Camden, NJ Jun. 16 - Continental Airlines Arena - E. SLAYER To Release New Song Via Exclusive HOT TOPIC EP
Wes Orshoki of Billboard.com is reporting that SLAYER will preview their first album in five years with an EP exclusively available at Hot Topic stores. The album will include "Cult", the lone new song the band plans to play live on the upcoming Unholy Alliance tour.
"People are probably going to think it's a sequel to 'Disciple', but it's not," guitarist Kerry King told Billboard.com of the new track. He adds that the EP will most likely include a live version of "Dead Skin Mask", among other tracks.
SLAYER's still-untitled follow-up to "God Hates Us All", which was released on Sept. 11, 2001, is due July 25 via American Recordings. For the project, the group reteamed with longtime collaborator Rick Rubin to executive produce their first new album with their four original members since 1990's "Seasons in the Abyss".
As previously reported, the Unholy Alliance tour also features LAMB OF GOD, CHILDREN OF BODOM, MASTODON and THINE EYES BLEED. It kicks off June 6 at the San Diego Sports Arena.

SLAYER's KING Says RICK RUBIN's Collaboration With METALLICA Was 'Slap In The Face'
Richard Bienstock of Guitar World magazine (web site) recently conducted an interview with SLAYER members Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. A few excerpts from the chat follow: Guitar World: Rick Rubin is credited as executive producer on the [new SLAYER] record ["Christ Illusion"] — why not have him produce it? King: "We thought he was going to. With Dave [Lombardo] back in the band now, it seemed to make sense. It would have been like the whole starting lineup again." Hanneman: "We expected to be working with him, and it sounded like he was interested. When we first wanted to go into the studio, he was the one causing the delay, because I think he wanted to be able to go with us." Guitar World: Now he's working with METALLICA. King: "It was like, 'Well, that's kind of a slap in the fucking face.' But we'll see how that pans out. You can't reinvent somebody that doesn't want to be reinvented." Guitar World: Is that what you think he's attempting to do with them? King: "If they can't reinvent themselves, where are they gonna go? When you do the thrash thing for however long they did it and you go away from it for years, you can't just come back and pretend that you've been a thrash band all that time. Because it's fucking running right by you. And I think that's what they're finding out." Guitar World: When it comes to recording your rhythm guitar tracks, do you split things up equally or does one guy handle the brunt of it? Hanneman: "Actually, on this one Kerry did all the rhythms. Even though he and I have similar styles, the parts sounded tighter when only one person played them. I think he did all the rhythm tracks on 'God Hates Us All' and most of [1998's] 'Diabolus in Musica' as well." Guitar World: So even on the songs that you wrote, Kerry played all the riffs? Hanneman: "Unless he couldn't do it. Having only one of us play the rhythms, whether it was me or Kerry, is something I wanted to do back in the old days as well, but the other guys weren't into it." King: "Things get done faster that way, too. Because if I go through 10, 11 songs, I'm pretty fucking happening with my right hand. I can match myself better. I do one rhythm track for me, and one for Jeff." Guitar World: The lyrics to [the new song "Jihad"] deal with terrorism, but through the eyes of a terrorist. Why did you approach it that way? Hanneman: "We don't preach to people about right or wrong. If I'm gonna write a song about 9/11, it's gonna be from the terrorists' point of view. That's what we do in this band." Guitar World: It reminds me of the lyrics to "Angel of Death" [from "Reign in Blood"], in which you detailed Nazi atrocities without explicitly condemning them." King: "I actually made that same connection. After hearing 'Jihad', I remember thinking, 'Great, now we're gonna be answering for this one!'" Hanneman: "But as with 'Angel', we're not endorsing anything. It's just not an 'anti' song, either." Guitar World: SLAYER has made a career out of writing pointed and controversial lyrics. Has there ever been a case where someone within the band hasn't felt comfortable with what was being said? Hanneman: "Oh, yeah. It comes and goes. But at the end of the day, people realize it's just entertainment. I mean, we are SLAYER. It's not like we're gonna go write about what a nice day it is." King: "I remember that Tom [Araya, vocals/bass] had a problem with the lyrics to a song I wrote, 'In the Name of God' [from 'Diabolus in Musica'] and he went to talk to Jeff about it. And it's like, 'C'mon, man, you're in SLAYER. You're the antichrist — you said it yourself on the first album!' You can't draw the line like that. Whether he agrees with it or not, he didn't write it — I wrote it. So you have to say, 'Well, it's just a part of being in this band.' Now Jeff and I, we don't give a fuck. If Jeff wrote something I had a problem with, I would never even raise a fucking finger. I'd be like, 'Fuck yeah, let's do it! Gonna piss someone off? Alright!'" The entire interview with Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman can be found in Guitar World's September 2006 issue, available on the newsstands right now.

SLAYER Under Fire From Christian GroupsWorld Entertainment News Network is reporting that SLAYER are courting controversy among Christian groups by releasing sacrilegious artwork on their latest album. The cover for upcoming record, "Christ Illusion", depicts a tattooed and amputated Jesus Christ standing in a sea of blood and corpses, and has infuriated right-wing religious groups. The Californian foursome are preparing themselves for a bitter backlash after the pictures were slammed as hurtful and grossly irreverent. However, guitarist Kerry King defends the shocking imagery, saying, "We wanted Christ in a sea of despair. "The first version that came back looked like he was just chilling out in the water!" Frontman Tom Araya adds, "Then when they sent a new one he had his eyes half open and was surrounded by floating heads. It was much better because he looked like a drug addict!" SLAYER hit the headlines last month when fans desecrated a New York City seminary after being urged by a fansite to cause chaos on the so-called "day of the devil." They have also angered 9/11 victims' families with extremist track "Jihad", which appears on their new album.

The casting company, Tolley Casparis Casting, is currently seeking a male Caucasian between the ages of 18 and 26 to star in the clip. SLAYER's TOM ARAYA Expecting 'Jihad' BacklashOne of the big tracks on SLAYER's new album, "Christ Illusion", entitled "Jihad", is written from a perspective of a 9/11 terrorist. Asked in an interview with The Sun if this has caused any problems, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya responded, "The record has just come out in the States so we haven't had to deal with it much. But I know it's coming." SLAYER's 1986 classic, "Reign in Blood", is seen as the benchmark for new metal and the best pure heavy metal album of all time. It was the most extreme record of its period, with a three-pronged attack of heaviness, speed and controversial subject matter. Tom says: "'Christ Illusion' comes close, but, in my opinion, nothing can surpass 'Reign in Blood' for intensity and impact. No one had heard anything like it before. In the 20 years since then, people have got more desensitised. What was over the top then, might not be now." Tom says the reason the band have remained tight, hungry and aggressive over the years is because they've never followed any trends. He says: "The fact we started out playing what we liked is behind our success and we have never adjusted to what is popular. It's just been, 'Plug in, turn it up, let's go." SLAYER Wins GRAMMY In 'Best Metal Performance' Category
SLAYER was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Metal Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 49th annual Grammy Awards, which are being held tonight (Sunday, February 11) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The nominees in the "Metal" category were as follows:
LAMB OF GOD - "Redneck" MASTODON - "Colony Of Birchmen" MINISTRY - "Lies, Lies, Lies" SLAYER - "Eyes Of The Insane" STONE SOUR - "30/30-150"
In a recent interview with John Foxworthy of Garage Radio, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King stated about the band's Grammy nomination, "Don't even care. Our fans don't give a shit and that's the most important thing to me. I mean, if they want it ... well, they probably want us to win, but just so they can say 'Fuck those other guys.' It's not gonna make us any better. People may look at us differently, but not anybody that's a SLAYER fan. You know what I mean?"

SLAYER GETS THIRD GRAMMY NOMINATION New Album, World Tour Planned for 2008
Los Angeles, CA - December 12, 2007 -- With at least one foot planted firmly in Hell, N.A.R.A.S. members have nominated SLAYER, the acknowledged kings of extreme speed/thrash/punk-metal, for their third Grammy Award. The Slayer track, "The Final Six," from the band's 2007 Limited Edition "Christ Illusion," was nominated in the category of "Best Metal Performance."
"The Final Six," written by Slayer's vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman and produced by Josh Abraham, is a chilling look at an hypothesized end of the world. The song made its debut last July as the Single of the Week on MySpace where it has since accumulated some 750,000 plays, an astounding number for a song that received no commercial airplay.
"When I first got the word, I thought someone was playing a joke," mused Araya. "But obviously, we've made an impression on the industry. The people at the upper levels have taken notice of what we've done, and that's awesome."
Slayer's two previous Grammy nominations were for 2002's "Disciple" from the album "God Hates Us All," and last year's "Eyes of the Insane," for which they took home the Grammy Award.
Right after the New Year, Slayer plans to start working on new material for their eleventh studio album, intended for a 2008 release, and will tour the world to support it. "I'm excited to see where the new music will go, how it's going to sound, what the total writing and recording experience will be like. I'm sure it will be like the one for 'Christ Illusion' - great!"

SLAYER's RockHard Helmet For The Motorcycle Enthusiast And The Latest In Mosh Pit Couture
SLAYER, the Grammy-winning, undisputed kings of thrash/punk/metal, have joined forces with O'Neal USA, one of the leading manufacturers of motorcycle and BMX accessories, to produce a limited edition of SLAYER helmets that feature the band's distinguished and celebrated artwork. The helmets will launch under the name of RockHard, and will be sold at all Cycle Gear locations and at finer motorcycle dealerships worldwide . In addition, each helmet will be certified and numbered with its own Certificate of Authenticity. SLAYER's RockHard Helmets go on sale on Monday, February 25 and once they're gone, they are GONE.
SLAYER's RockHard Helmets will be available in three unique shells: Full Face Street (retail from $349), Off Road Dirt ($249 to $269), and Half Shell (Harley style) ($159 to $179). Every helmet will be boxed in a custom-made container patterned after the Anvil road cases, which are used to transport band equipment while on tour. Each helmet passes the highest safety standards from around the world, certified standards in each country in which they are sold. These standards include DOT, SNELL, Australia, EU, Japan and ECE. Each helmet is produced with the finest materials and is made with the most comfortable liners for a perfect fit every ride.
"The RockHard Helmet line, and the SLAYER helmet in particular, has generated a huge amount of buzz with our retail outlet buyers," said Jim O'Neal. "Personally, I'm very psyched about this product as it takes SLAYER to another merch level."
While musical trends have come and gone, the members of SLAYER — Tom Araya/vocals, bass; Kerry King/guitars; Jeff Hanneman/guitars; Dave Lombardo/drums — have continued to stay true to their thrash roots and loudly defied the music industry's standards for the past 27 years. The band is nominated this year for its third Grammy Award (Best Metal Performance for the track "The Final Six" off 2007 limited-edition "Christ Illusion". On "Christ Illusion", SLAYER takes on the Government and God, looking at the World Trade Center disaster from the terrorists' point of view and repeatedly committing lyrical blasphemy, which caused one major daily reviewer to hypothesize, "If Thomas Jefferson were alive today, he undoubtedly would be listening to Slayer.beneath this aggressive veneer is a social, political and interpersonal message that would put proud smiles on our nation's founders."
RockHard Helmets is also producing limited edition helmets for AC/DC, KISS, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, and Hustler in its current first "Tour" line up. With nearly 300 artists under contract with the RockHard project, what better way to launch the RockHard line than with the almighty metal icon, SLAYER.

SLAYER High School Yearbook Being AuctionedThe 1983 yearboook from the South Gate High School in South Gate, California featuring some of the earliest pictures of SLAYER is being auctioned via eBay: cgi.ebay.com/SLAYER-High-Scshool-Yearbook-Ultimate-Thrash-Rarity_W0QQitemZ180234060966QQihZ008QQcategoryZ108857QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemAccording to a posting on the auction page, "This is an extreme rarity. This is an annual/yearbook that features some of the earliest pictures from SLAYER. This yearbook is from South Gate High School in South Gate California where SLAYER got their first start and a slew of bands followed their path. "This yearbook came out in 1983, so the pictures were probably taken around 1982, making this the pre-'Show No Mercy' era. "There are a total of six pictures in this annual featuring SLAYER. All the original and current members of SLAYER are pictured here. Kerry King is using his original BC Rich Mockingbird guitar before he put tar (or whatever it was) to decorate it. The fourth picture shows Jeff Hanneman with a buzz haircut (he was the punk influence in the band). "In this auction I [the seller] will also include a set of flyers from the era where SLAYER played around the South Gate area, and features more pictures from the band at this time." The auction ends on April 26 at 21:55:04 PDT.
