He's Real Gone, Only Sin Deep, Lover Come Hack to Me, Collection Completed All-new introduction by the Crypt Keeper Tales from the Crypt: From Comic Books to Television DescriptionBased on the legendary and gruesome EC Comics from publisher William Gaines, this horror anthology featured stories of murder, the super natural, gore and humor and always had a twist ending of sorts. Some of Hollywood's biggest names took part, either working in front or behind the camera. Hosting duties fell to everyone's favorite decaying corpse, the Cryptkeeper. The success of this series spawned a Saturday morning cartoon series (Tales From the Cryptkeeper), a short-lived Saturday morning game show on CBS (Secrets of the Cryptkeeper's Haunted House) and lots of merchandise. Two feature films (Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood) were also produced and released in the late 90's. The TV series originally aired on HBO, but was later syndicated to Fox, the Sci-Fi Channel, and most recently AMC. Despite being a short season (only 6 episodes), Season 1 enjoyed the highest ratings in its HBO airings. THE MACHINISTIn A Nutshell...THE MACHINIST is the story of Trevor Reznik, a machinist who hasn’t slept in over a year. Working in a machine shop, Trevor faces the usual occupational hazards, yet his extreme fatigue only makes them worse, causing him to accidentally cut off a co-worker’s hand. What Trevor suffers from clearly isn’t a typical case of insomnia… Review:As a bleak and chilling mood piece, The Machinist gets under your skin and stays there. Christian Bale threw himself into the title role with such devotion that he shed an alarming 63 pounds to play Trevor Reznik (talk about "starving artist"!), a factory worker who hasn't slept in a year. He's haunted by some mysterious occurrence that turned him into a paranoid husk, sleepwalking a fine line between harsh reality and nightmare fantasy--a state of mind that leaves him looking disturbingly gaunt and skeletal in appearance. (It's no exaggeration to say that Bale resembles a Holocaust survivor from vintage Nazi-camp liberation newsreels.) In a cinematic territory far removed from his 1998 romantic comedy Next Stop Wonderland, director Brad Anderson orchestrates a grimy, nocturnal world of washed-out blues and grays, as Trevor struggles to assemble the clues of his psychological conundrum. With a friendly hooker (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and airport waitress (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón) as his only stable links to sanity, Trevor reaches critical mass and seems ready to implode just as The Machinist reveals its secrets. For those who don't mind a trip to hell with a theremin-laced soundtrack, The Machinist seems primed for long-term status as a cult thriller on the edge. Official Site: www.themachinistthemovie.com/

MADDEN 2006Official Site: www.easports.com/games/madden06/home.jspAvailable: August 9th, 2005Review:'Madden Football 2006' delivers best hit yetBy Matt Krantz, USA TODAY If you're never sure which football video game to buy each year, rest assured: This year will be much easier. Unlike the past decade when there were two or three titles to choose from, this year, there's only one: Madden NFL 2006. Late last year, Electronic Arts, the maker of Madden NFL 2006, made its dominance official by buying exclusive rights to use the NFL teams, players, coaches and stadiums. That pretty much locked out all the competition, including the 2K series from Take-Two Interactive. Suddenly, Madden NFL 2006 has become the only game in town. And already, it was the only choice for many football gamers. Over the past 15 years, it has become one of the most popular games ever made, selling 43 million copies. Even Microsoft bowed out of the football video game business, unable to compete with Madden. What does all this business stuff have to do with the game? EA's exclusive rights have made fans of the Madden football series very nervous. They fear the lack of competition would let EA take a breather from pushing the football video game genre ahead and just slap the new player rosters in Madden NFL 2006. That doesn't appear to have been the case, though, at least not this year. Madden NFL 2006 still behaves like a real contender by adding a number of meaningful features that give gamers even more control of the on-screen players. (Photo gallery: High-resolution shots) The legions of fans of the series will immediately notice several changes not only to the actual on-the-field football game (which we'll get to shortly) but also in the experience that surrounds the game. Specifically, that's the 'NFL Superstar Mode' that's new this year in Madden NFL 2006. In Superstar mode, you create an NFL star from the very beginning of his career. And that means the very beginning. It starts by choosing from randomly generated parents, such as a former NFL quarterback father and a botanist mom. You then follow the NFL career path that includes everything from taking an IQ test to choosing an agent and undergoing the draft. Once you get drafted to a team, you navigate every area of your career. You can choose what kinds of tattoos to get, which skills to develop on the practice field and how to interact with fans through a site run about you by a rabid backer. You get messages and voicemails from your agent, fans, fellow players and coaches on an on-screen cell phone, which keeps you in touch with your career. The better you perform, the swankier your pad gets. It's an interesting way to understand all aspects of a player's life. You can even angle for movie roles or be picked for the cover of Madden NFL 2007. But the real changes show up where it counts: under the hood in the actual gameplay. Madden NFL 2006 introduces a number of new features that not only give players more control but also make the game more realistic. Perhaps the biggest advance is the so-called Quarterback Vision Control. Think of this as your QB's line of vision. Those days of tossing a perfect pass to your right wide receiver while your QB is facing left are gone. Now, as soon as you snap the pigskin, you will see a grey triangle showing the area that your quarterback is ready to pass into. If your receiver is in the Quarterback Vision Control triangle, your pass' accuracy will be much better than if you're throwing outside the triangle. You're probably wondering: What if you have a wide-open receiver who's not in the Quarterback Vision Control triangle? You'll need to adjust that vision immediately, much like a real quarterback swivels his head before releasing the ball. You can shift your Quarterback Vision Control triangle by using the analog stick. In another advance that's especially helpful to you control freaks out there, Madden NFL 2006 introduces Precision Placement. With this control, you can decide exactly where you want the pass to go relative to the receiver. For instance, if your receiver cuts to the inside you can throw the pass slightly ahead. That way your receiver will reach the ball with his arms extended, leaving his hands further away from the reach of the befuddled defender. With all this talk about the offense, you might be curious about the changes to the defense. Madden NFL 2005 was a breakthrough year for new features to control the "D." This year's Madden brings those back in addition to adding a few new twists, such as making it easier to take control of linemen before the snap. The game also brings back access to Madden online, which will match you with other players with similar skills. All these new features, though, create a drawback as well. They give the gamer so much control and so many things to think about that there's a bit of a learning curve. You'll need to practice the new Quarterback Vision Control and Precision Placement over and over again before you get the hang of it. And some complete Madden neophytes may be intimidated by the controls until they've taken many snaps and practiced. So, what are you waiting for? Get suited up and out on the field. If you can master all the new features in Madden NFL 2006, you may be headed for Detroit in February.

I picked up my copy of Madden last night and so far I have been very impressed. A lot of reviews say that the game isn't as good as the last couple of years, but since I never played Madden 2k5 I don't have any basis for comparison. I think it's as good or better than Sega's NFL 2k5, and I like the minicamp games where you go to different teams for different drills and earn points that give you Madden cards. I assume that when you complete the All-Madden challenges you can unlock old-school guys like Barry Sanders and Dan Marino like you could a few years back, but I haven't really messed with it a whole lot. I haven't tried the Superstar mode, which I'll probably wait to fool with until Johnny Utah is eligible to be drafted from NCAA 2k6. One thing that really stood out is how ridiculously easy this game is on Rookie mode. I started a franchise with the Redskins and in the first preseason game, I outscored Carolina in the first half 49-0, scoring on virtually every play. It seemed like the QB vision cone was an afterthought because the receivers caught damn near every pass I threw at them and every time Portis got the ball he was off for a TD. In games past, I remember actually having some tough games on Rookie for some reason (probably because I don't know what the hell I'm doing half the time, especially when it comes to defense, I just blitz every down). So I guess I have to bump it up to Pro or All-Pro for a more realistic game. I found the QB vision thing a bit of a pain in the ass to use, as you have to either lock onto or use the right analog stick to highlight your receiver, which is pretty hard to do while you're trying to avoid the pass rush and find an open man. But then again, you can always turn it off and still hit those no-look 40-yard bombs. The commentary is pretty bad, worse than usual. But the music kicks ass, with new tracks from Disturbed and Godsmack, among others. All in all, a great game and worth picking up. I look forward to playing y'all bitches online!

My favorite parts of the game so far are:
Terell Suggs Intro: "Yo, this is Darth Sizzle, it's EA Sports.... It's In The Game. Yo, you better not cut this out... keep me in there."
The Haggard Pittsburgh Chicks Intro
All in all I give the game a 5 of 5.

Nevermind, those Pittsburgh chicks were busted. I did like the Dolphins and Raiders cheerleaders and the San Diego parking lot honeys, though. GOD DAMN! For those of you who have played the game-what the hell is the point of practice in franchise mode? Is there a max number of reps you can run? Does it affect your team in any way? I can't figure out the point to it. Maybe I should look at the instructions again.

OVERNIGHTTroy Duffy was on the fast-track to become a Hollywood legend-while working as a bartender, he sold a screenplay, BOONDOCK SAINTS, to Miramax head Harvey Weinstein, got permission to direct it, and secured a recording deal for his band. Unfortunately for himself, Duffy was an egotistical control freak who insisted on claiming all the glory and credit for the good things that happened to him and assigning blame for all of the bad. This documentary chronicles his downfall as he disrespects and mistreats nearly everyone he encounters, ultimately losing all of his great opportunities.

Making Friday the 13th: The Legend of Camp BloodDESCRIPTIONThe definitive history of the world's most popular horror film franchise! Fresh light on a cinematic phenomenon that's still going strong a quarter of a century after its debut, this an exhaustive detailing of all eleven Friday the 13th films, including * detailed production histories of each film * rare anecdotes * scores of previously unseen photos from private collections * hundreds of rare interviews featuring, among others, Kevin Bacon, Wes Craven, Sean S. Cunningham, Robert Englund, Adrienne King, Betsy Palmer and Tom Savini * iconography, including Jason, the hockey mask, and a body count in the hundreds REVIEWMaking Friday the 13th: The Legend of Camp Blood By David Grove Reviewed by Jessica Dwyer - - - > Jason Voorhees is love. Or more exact, Making Friday the 13th is love for Jason Voorhees. If ever there was a bible for F13’s long history of films, it is this book. Beautifully put together and full of still photos of behind the scenes goodness as well as kill shots and pics from the movies in the series, David Grove has assembled a definitive work on one of the longest horror movie lines in history. Starting off with what inspired Sean Cunningham to make the first movie (John Carpenter’s success with Halloween, another long lived killer franchise) and goes all the way up to Freddy Vs Jason, Grove gives detail after detail on each movie. Grove also has a chapter on the syndicated classic Friday The 13th: The Series (whose star John D LeMay went on to star in the Jason Goes to Hell) as it was in fact created by the makers of the Jason films. Although Jason had nothing to really do with the cursed antique business, it was still a great show. For those always wondering why the show never had Jasonesque tones this is explained, as well as why the show was cancelled after having a great 3 season run. The reasons? One reason was the threat of boycotts from religious groups who thought the show and its creative team were a bunch of Satanists. Nice huh? The chapters on the films are detailed and fact filled to the point that I was just amazed at how Grove got all this info. It’s interesting to read about what has happened to some of the young actors that starred in the original films in the series and what went on while filming. Things like how Tom Savini created his effects for the movies, such as the “death by arrow” that Kevin Bacon goes through is explained with the storyboards that were used to plan it. As I said, great stuff. My only complaint is that I would have liked to have had a chapter on the merchandise that Jason has inspired. There has been some great stuff released in the years Mr. Hockey Mask has been stalking young nubile teens. Things like the Atari Video Game and the short lived young adult paperback series are just interesting little footnotes in the history of F13. But that is a minimal gripe. The books focus is the films and that’s what it does extremely well. For anyone who is a fan of 80’s horror, splatter films, slasher films, or just horror films in general, Making Friday the 13th: The Legend of Camp Blood is a must have. It’s one of the best and most comprehensive film histories I’ve read in a long time. At the end of the book is a complete body count by movie, by victim, including how they die. Impressive as hell. The book is published by Fab Press. Check out their site at www.fabpress.com or at www.amazon.com

I am back after a brief hiatus (running you fantasy leagues and keeping the content rolling into the board) to give you you prized Pick of The Week Column... enjoy yo'self... MG P.S. I think the show would be better titled as "They Call Me The Duke"... - - - > My Name is Earl!Official Site: www.nbc.com/My_Name_Is_Earl/Premieres Tuesday, September 20th 2005 on NBCREVIEWWith his slacker stubble and ridiculous "Magnum P.I." mustache, Earl Hickey does not look like any rational person's idea of a savior. But Earl's sitcom could be just the kind of crazy this TV season needs. Along with UPN's "Everybody Hates Chris," NBC's "My Name Is Earl" is being touted as the show that will bring the battered sitcom back to life. That's a lot to ask of one little half-hour comedy, and it's too early to tell if "Earl" is up to the Post-"Friends" TV Challenge or not. But its loony energy and sweetly twisted humor will certainly make you laugh. Maybe even snort. And in these humor-impaired times, a good snort is no small thing. The lovably scruffy Jason Lee ("Almost Famous," "Chasing Amy") stars as Earl, a low-rent thief and scammer whose belated discovery of karma sends his aimless life spinning in a new purpose-driven direction. Earl's enlightenment comes in the form of a cosmically timed car accident. The agent of change is MTV celeb Carson Daly, whose talk-show musings about doing good things so that good things happen to you strike Earl as very, very deep. "My life sucks, and I ain't never done anything good I can think of," Earl tells his couch-surfing brother, Randy. And with that grain of wisdom embedded in the fishy recesses of his brain, Earl makes a list of all the wrongs he has committed in his sorry life and dedicates himself to making them right again. Tonight, Earl tackles No. 64, "Picked on Kenny James." The original sin involved crushing Kenny's spirit (and family jewels) in a kickball-related incident. The fact that Earl's initial solution is both illegal and inappropriate is no shock, but Kenny's story plays out in such an endearing way, you will find yourself trusting Earl more than you probably should. Like its derelict hero, "My Name Is Earl" has a good heart and an extremely flexible moral code, which means you get Hallmark card sentimentality and paint-huffing jokes. Viewers who prefer their shows to be either naughty or nice might have a problem with this, but with the help of an insanely talented team, "Earl" makes its schizophrenic combination work. At the top of the heap is Lee, master of the cocked eyebrow and the beautifully warped line-reading. To hear the laconic actor toss off gems like, "You steal enough purses, you learn a few things about Mace," is to hear pure sitcom music. Lee receives expert backup from Ethan Suplee, who manages to give Randy a Teddy Bear charm and a gamey trailer-park stench. Nadine Velazquez doesn't do much to make her standard-issue Latina maid more than the cliché she already is, but Jaime Pressly is a trashy hoot as Earl's perpetually cheatin' ex-wife. The show's mix of heartwarming redemption and envelope-pushing humor is tricky, and the novelty of watching Earl cross another bad deed off his list could get very old very fast. But creator and writer Greg Garcia ("Yes, Dear") has come up with a show that doesn't look or sound like anything else that's on TV right now. Earl isn't perfect, but he's his own man. And watching his show is your reward for not letting this rascal out of your sight.

EVIL DEAD: REGENERATIONChainsaws. Shotguns. Half-Dead Sidekick. What more does a real hero need? Enter an all-new Evil Dead experience! A mad doctor uses technology and the dreaded Necronimcon AKA The Book of The Dead to raise a new breed of Deadites and monsters. Only Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his reluctant half-deadite partner can save the earth (and Ash's sexy lawyer, Sally) from becoming Apocalyptic strudel. This is a really good game, great controls, voice acting and graphics. If you're a Evil Dead fan this is a must have. It's fun and it's not extremely difficult or frustrating. This is definately worth $20. I thought it was cool that this one and Fistful of Boomstick were both $20 when they came out. Don't we all wish every game would be like this. Regeneration beats most of the $50 games out there right now. Great voiceovers by Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi make the game a great gaming experience.

THE WARRIORS by Rockstar Games Official Site:www.rockstargames.com/thewarriors/warriors.htmlFeatures:Join 60,000 warriors in a battle for the streets of New York Try to make your way from one end of the city to your turf on the other side Based on the classic 1979 cult flick Each member of your crew has its own unique moves The game features a 2 Player Co-Op mode DESCRIPTIONA battle of gigantic proportions is looming in the neon underground of New York City. The army of the night numbers 100,000 strong, and tonight they're all after the "Warriors"- a street gang wrongly accused of killing a rival gang leader. The Warriors must make their way from one end of New York to their turf on the other side of the city. All that stands between The Warriors and their survival are 20 miles and thousands of street gang members. The army of gangs owns the streets and there's no turning back, The Warriors must fight for their lives and learn the meaning of loyalty as danger and uncertainty emerges from the city night. REVIEWI am a HUGE fan of the original movie and I expected a watered-down or updated version that would just sully the original movie. So when it came to picking up "The Warriors" for Xbox, it was pretty much a no brainer. Not only is the game a MAJOR homage to the original film and a great game. For fans of Grand Theft Auto, or fighting games (this is a superb old-fashioned "brawler" videogame) this one is definitely worth the purchase price. One of the best things about the game is that most of the orginal cast from the movie have done the voice over work and its all very well done. I could spend all day on the trash talk that James Remar spews as the infamous "Ajax". "I'll shove that bat up your ass and turn you into a popsicle." - Ajax For fans of the movie, you'll also enjoy learning a lot of the characters' backstories (rest assured that the game stays dead-on true to every character) and traveling down the gritty streets of 70's New York (complete with trash piled everywhere, graffiti, and ever-present bums). The game starts three months before the movie begins, so you'll also get to learn a lot about what led up to Cyrus's infamous "conclave." Start off by learning the basic moves and then you move to tagging, stealing and mugging for which you earn money for useful items like spray paint amongst other things. Weapons are plentiful and range from bottles, bricks and garbage cans to wrenches, hammers and baseball bats. You will play as all of the Warriors and can give "warchief" commands to the others when a situation calls for it. These commands range from "LET'S GO", "HOLD UP" and "SCATTER" to "WRECK EM' ALL", amongst others. Warriors, come out to play-i-ay!! - Luther There is also an entertaining "Versus" fighting mode, where you can choose a character to rumble as... be it one on one or as a group. A word of warning. This is not a game for the faint-of-heart. The language and violence in the videogame is even rougher than that of the original film (which sparked riots in 1979). Muthagoose Rating: Can You Count Suckas?... 5 outta 5!!!

BATTLE ROYALE: DIRECTOR'S CUTForeword by Muthagoose Escobar:I was somewhat aware of the film "Battle Royale" having seen the logo plastered on shirts in dealer's rooms and strewn across the chests of many a fanboy and girl at the conventions we frequent. The film was recommended to me buy our new boardie Chic-O-Stick (who borrows her screenname from the delicious coconutish, peanut buttery snack treat that is widely available in the mid-west... yet sold at a premium around the east like styrofoam on Melmac.) So, recently when I attended Chiller Theatre, shortly after Steve Railsback gave Stomper a rub on his tummy tum, I threw caution to the wind and pick up a copy... Here is the skinny on what's phat...Description:Alternate-world Japan, the government has instituted a yearly Battle Royale, where a high school class picked at random is sent to an out-of-the-way island and forced to kill one another until there is a single survivor. "Battle Royale" is a superb film, subtle and sad and over-the-top and loud all at the same time. The story is often compared to "Lord of the Flies," but that is a bit of a misnomer. "Lord of the Flies" was about reverting to primitivism, whereas "Battle Royale" is a futuristic cautionary tale in the tune of "1984" and "Brave New World." The caution at work here is the threat of absolute bureaucracy, and the dangers of the loss of the value of life and respect in a rules-dominated society. This is a threat quite apparent in modern Japan. Think "Lord of The Flies" meets "The Running Man" meets the rawness of "Reservoir Dogs" or "American History X". While a violent film, I wouldn't characterize "Battle Royale" as an action film per se. Anyone looking for a Hong Kong-style action film should realize that Japan and China are quite different countries with different approach to movies.. "Battle Royale" retains the quietude and patient pacing that is the hallmark of Japanese cinema, and which leaves some viewers bored, who are used to a quicker pacing. The bloodshed, while in great quantity, is also more cartoony in nature, which is also more typical of Japanese films, which does not favor a naturalistic approach. Most of the killing is do in a "Kill Bill"-esque style. Battle Royale is one of those strange beasts, an action film which works on several different levels. Most superficially, the viewer can treat it almost as a gameshow; who is going to "win", and how? It has to be said, though, that this is the least satisfying option; there's little in the way of suspense, there's few big action set-pieces and the ending, as it is, is as vague and non-conclusive as many of the other more esoteric films you'll find detailed on this site. There is much that will interest the common-or-garden gore freak, in that this is one of the downright bloodiest movies you'll find this side of Ichi the Killer. But then again, you could read this film as a powerful rites of passage, coming of age movie in which the power of friendship and loyalty overcomes adverse circumstances and prevails. Even amongst the early deaths there is a strong sense of fellowship - more than a few commit suicide together, refusing to bow to the will of The Man and/or not having the strength of will to see through what it is that is required of them. And it's to Fukusaku's credit that he doesn't portray the suicides as negative or desperate acts, but as deeds of nobility and contemplation. Or, it's a punk rock movie, only with far more decapitations or gunshot wounds, that shows the youth outwardly complying with what they are told to do but inwardly plotting to bring down the system from within. Keep in mind that the film is subtitled and not dubbed. But I know you can handle that... I have faith in you. The film will suck you in within minutes and have you captivated give you a sense of uneasiness like no film you have seen in American cinema recently. Anyway you slice and dice it, this is a kick ass film worth your time. Rating: 4/5 Stars Muthagoose Says: Want some constant bloody killings, nightmarish scenarios, and sick plot twists?
