Dracula: 75th Anniversary Edition When Universal Pictures picked up the movie rights to a Broadway adaptation of Dracula, they felt secure in handing the property over to the sinister team of actor Lon Chaney and director Tod Browning. But Chaney died of cancer, and Universal hired the Hungarian who had scored a success in the stage play: Béla Lugosi. The resulting film launched both Lugosi's baroque career and the horror-movie cycle of the 1930s. It gets off to an atmospheric start, as we meet Count Dracula in his shadowy castle in Transylvania, superbly captured by the great cinematographer Karl Freund. Eventually Dracula and his blood-sucking devotee (Dwight Frye, in one of the cinema's truly mad performances) meet their match in a vampire-hunter called Van Helsing (Edward Van Sloan). If the later sections of the film are undeniably stage bound and a tad creaky, Dracula nevertheless casts a spell, thanks to Lugosi's creepily lugubrious manner and the eerie silences of Browning's directing style. (After a mood-enhancing snippet of Swan Lake under the opening titles, there is no music in the film.) Frankenstein, which was released a few months later, confirmed the horror craze, and Universal has been making money (and countless spin-off projects) from its twin titans of terror ever since. Certainly the role left a lasting impression on the increasingly addled and drug-addicted Lugosi, who was never quite able to distance himself from the part that made him a star. He was buried, at his request, in his black vampire cape. --Robert Horton DVD featuresThe extra features on this 2-disc 75th anniversary edition of a film classic are a mix of previously available extras and some new stuff. But these are trumped by the news about the film itself: as befits one of the legendary titles of Hollywood history, Dracula looks noticeably cleaner and brighter than in its previous DVD releases, and the soundtrack also seems improved. As with previous DVD packages, the Spanish version of Dracula, shot concurrently with the English-language version, is included. It's a cool movie in its own right and essential viewing for vampire-movie fans. Also returning from previous DVDs: the option to watch the film with Philip Glass's fascinating original score (the film had no score except for source music and "Swan Lake" over the titles); this is a one-time-only experience, as nothing could improve on the original's eerie patches of silence. Also back are horror scholar David J. Skal's contributions: a commentary track and a featurette called The Road to Dracula, which gives the history of Bram Stoker's character. New to this edition: a 36-minute documentary, Lugosi: the Dark Prince, a decent career overview with comments from enthusiasts including director Joe Dante; "Monster Tracks," a feature that allows for pop-up onscreen info-bites (a distraction for the short of attention); a feature commentary by Steve Haberman, horror author and a screenwriter on Dracula: Dead and Loving It (lots of context, but Haberman also gives a spirited and rather welcome rebuke to recent conventional wisdom that favors the Spanish film over the Browning version); and Universal Horror, a 95-minute documentary by Kevin Brownlow. As good as Brownlow's work generally is, this 1998 doc, narrated by Kenneth Branagh, is choppy, and ranges far afield from Universal's great run of horror movies. It's worth seeing for clips from very rare films and for interviews with the likes of Fay Wray, Gloria Stuart, Ray Bradbury, and Curt Siodmak.

An American Haunting (Unrated Edition) Plot Synopsis: Based on true events validated by the State of Tennessee of the only case in US History where a spirit or entity caused the death of a man. With over 20 books written on the subject, and a town that still lives in fear of the return of the unseen spirit, the story of "An American Haunting" is terrifying. Between the years 1818-1820, the Bell Family of Red River, Tennessee was visited by an unknown presence that haunted the family and eventually ended up causing the death of one its members. Starting with small sounds around the farm, and the sighting of a a strange BLACK WOLF with piercing yellow eyes, the sounds escalated into full brutal contact with the certain family members, causing psychological and physical torment. The attacks grew in strength, with the spirit slapping, pulling, dragging, and beating the Bell's youngest daughter. The Bells searched for rational explanations and ways to rid their house of this entity, but to no avail as the spirit began to communicate with them through sounds, and eventually multiple voices that sounded like the wind. The cause of its actions could always be felt, but no being could be seen, and no explanation found- only the promise that one day it would kill one of the family members. Fearing that the haunting was caused by a local woman -branded a witch- who had put a curse upon the family as a result of a land dispute, the Bells tried desperately to find ways to get rid of the woman's curse, yet the attacks and disturbances only escalated. It was not until a manuscript of the local schoolteacher -who lived on the property during the disturbance- was found in 1998 that the horrifying and shocking answer to what caused this haunting would finally be unveiled.

The Transformers - The Movie 20th Anniversary Special EditionThis is the release of the Transformers animated motion picture in celebration of it's 20th anniversary as well as a prelude to the release of the Transformers Live action motion picture that will be released in 2007. Let us take a look at the details of this dvd release which will help buyers in making the choice as to whether or not to make this film part of their dvd library. Firstly, this dvd is released by Sony BMG Music Entertainment, as therefore those who might be expecting a dvd release of the animated film together with the live action film later in 2007 will be sorely disappointed as the property doesn't belong to the same distributor. Secondly, this dvd release is a 2 disc release featuring three versions of the feature film, commentary tracks and interviews, a sneak peak at the live-action movie. A breakdown of the dvd details are as follows : *Brilliantly remastered and color-corrected *16x9 widescreen presentation, which has not been seen anywhere since the movie was in theatres twenty years ago *Full screen edition as well *Commentary tracks *Interviews with director Nelson Shin, story consultant Flint Dille and voice actress Susan Blu *Autobot Matrix of Knowledge Presentation: Truly showcasing the pop culture phenomenon that is The Transformers, Sony BMG has created a special version of the film for the DVD release. *The `Autobot Matrix of Knowledge' will feature trivia and fun facts about the movie itself, the Transformers brand, and the pop culture references in which Transformers has been spoofed/tributed. Approximately one hundred fun facts will show up on screen throughout the movie. Many of the factoids were provided by fans through a special DVD site created by Sony BMG to solicit input--marking the first time that the huge Transformers fan base has ever been asked to participate in the creation of a Transformers home entertainment release. *Original commercials for the toy line and movie *Behind-the-scenes sneak peak at next summer's highly anticipated Transformers live action movie event. The special feature segment on the DVD will include comments from Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg who share their vision and passion for Transformers *Collectible `transforming' cover My personal view is that for this price, and the amount of special features thrown in, this dvd is a real bang for your buck. If you are a Transformers fan, this is a must buy. If you wanna have a Transformers history lesson and get hyped up before the movie release, this is also a worthy consideration. If you belong to none of the people in the category above, you might wanna stay away. But this is darn good entertainment whichever way you look at it. This deserves 5 stars, no doubt! Unfortunately, the video for "The Touch" is not on the DVD.

TOM GREEN.COM - THE CHANNEL
Back in the day I was not a huge fan of Tom Green and The Tom Green Show. Somehow I stumbled across his website last weekend and have a whole new perspective. So before you pass judgement... take a few and check this out. www.tomgreen.com/Apparently after he was dumped by MTV and Drew Barrymore, the dust has settled and he has finally set up shop in his living room and is running a talk show 4 times a week that is really pretty good. I know it sounds rather bizarre and it is... but this is one of those things that is going to have a huge cult following. He has had a ton of guests that include...Henry Rollins, Dave Navarro, Crispin Glover, KG from Tenacious D, Brooke Shields, Steve-O, Andrew Dice Clay, Thora Birch, Ed McMahon, The Arch Bishop Don Magic Juan, Tony Hawk, and Andy Dick. The show airs via the website at Monday-Thursday 11PM EST (8 PM PST). You can call in to talk to the guests. Here is Tom's home number: 323-845-9976 All the previous shows are available on demand from the site anytime you want to tune in. There is also some other weird programming that I have only briefly taken in but look like something you can sit back and drink a beer too. Other shows on the channel include: "Poolside Chats with Neil Hamburger", "The Robert Kurtz Show", "Girl Talk Live", "Black Spanish Fly and the Dick". - - For all you Myspace Whores... add the show to your friends to spread the word. myspace.com/wwwtomgreencom/- - *Note: I was able to locate the "Undercutters" segment of The Tom Green Show on YouTube... for your enjoyment. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB87ynwHcnQ

Pirates Of The Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) DVD Features:* Available Subtitles: Spanish, French * Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), French (Dolby Digital 5.1), Spanish (Dolby Digital 5.1) * Commentary by: Screenwriters Ted Elliott & Terry RossioDolby Digital 2.0 * Commentary by screenwriters Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio * Bloopers of the Caribbean * Charting the Return: A preproduction diary * According to Plan: hour-long production documentary * Captain Jack: From Head to Toe * Mastering the Blade * Meet Davy Jones: Anatomy of a Legend * Creating the Kraken * Dead Men Tell New Tales: Re-Imagineering the Attraction * Fly on the Set: The Bone Cage * Jerry Bruckheimer: A Producer's Photo Diary * Pirates on Main Street: The Dead Man's Chest Premiere * Easter Eggs Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the strong suit of the franchise, as the film excels during its stunt pieces, which are impressively extravagant (in particular a three-way swordfight atop a mill wheel). It may help to know that Dead Man's Chest was filmed simultaneously with some of Pirates 3, so don't expect a complete resolution (think more The Empire Strikes Back) or the movie will feel a lot longer than it really is. Bloom shows a tad bit more brawn this time around, but he's still every bit as pretty as the tomboyish Knightley. (Seriously, sometimes you think they could swap roles.) Bill Nighy (Love, Actually) weighs in as Davy Jones and Stellan Skarsgård appears as Will's undead father. But the film still belongs wholly to Depp, who in a reprise of his Oscar-nominated role gets all the belly laughs with a single widened eyeliner-ed gaze. He still runs like a cartoon hen and slurs like Keith Richards--and he's still one of the most fascinating movie characters in recent history.

BULLYFor far too long, the bullies of Bullworth Academy have been stealing lunch money and making life miserable for students. For far too long, you've taken a back seat as nerds were taunted and put on display. And for far too long nobody has put the bullies in their place. Finally, the time for sweet revenge is here! The Rockstar tradition of groundbreaking, original gameplay and humorous tongue-in-cheek storytelling invades an entirely new setting: the schoolyard. As a mischievous schoolboy, you'll stand up to bullies, get picked on by teachers, play pranks, win or lose the girl, and ultimately learn to navigate the obstacles of the worst school around, Bullworth Academy - a corrupt and crumbling prep school with an uptight facade. Life at the academyThe story follows Jimmy Hopkins, a teenager who's been expelled from every school he's ever attended. Left to fend for himself after his mother abandons him at Bullworth to go on her fifth honeymoon, Jimmy has a whole year at Bullworth ahead of him, working his way up the social ladder of this demented institution of supposed learning, standing up for what he thinks is right and taking on the liars, cheats and snobs who are the most popular members of the student body and faculty. If Jimmy can survive the school year and outsmart his rivals, he could rule the school. Using the "living sandbox" game style similar to Rockstar's previous titles, players complete goals and experiment with items in the game world. A rival may dare you to drop a firecracker into a toilet or scare some sense into the kid who took your lunch money. Don't spend too much time roaming the halls, however, as you may actually be punished for skipping out on important classes. Choices you make outside of school will also impact how friends and foes in the school view you after you buy new clothes and sport a new haircut. Mini games aboundBullworth Academy pride themselves in rigidly sticking to the curriculum at all times, to this end consistent truancy will result in punishment. The esteemed staff of the Academy, though occasionally questionable in their recreational habits, ensure that the pupils have a firm grounding in the key academic subjects. Alongside the strict principals of loyalty, trust and ruthless ambition that are ingrained in every pupil in the academy by the principal Dr Crabblesnitch, core subjects include English, Gym, Shop Class, Photography, Art and Chemistry. Each subject comprises a series of five tests to be passed with flying colors. Of course on passing each test a due reward, in the form of gameplay features will be earned by the player. Bullworth Academy's educational system is provided through a host of exciting and innovative mini games lovingly developed by Rockstar Vancouver to accompany the main storyline of Bully. Do a double cliqueJust like any other crumbling prep school, Bullworth Academy has its cliques. You'll have to choose whether to side with football jocks, well-dressed preppies, or try to turn them against each other while you laugh at the antics with your fellow greasers. Clique membership becomes even more exciting as your clique rises to the head of the class- making a name for themselves and striking fear into the hearts of those who might cross you. Don't be surprised if some cliques offer up some surprises, as those bug-eyed nerds just may have the scientific know how to create weaponry that can keep those bullies at bay. Ready yourself for a hilarious return to campus living with Bully, the outrageously funny debut title from Rockstar Vancouver, available exclusively for PlayStation¨2 computer entertainment system. Product DescriptionAs a mischievous schoolboy, you'll stand up to bullies, get picked on by teachers, play pranks, win or lose the girl, and ultimately learn to navigate the obstacles of the worst school around, Bullworth Academy - a corrupt and crumbling prep school with an uptight facade. BLACK CHRISTMASA sorority house is terrorized by a stranger who makes frightening phone calls and then murders the sorority sisters during Christmas break. It's time for Christmas break, and the sorority sisters make plans for the holiday, but the strange anonymous phone calls are beginning to put them on edge. When Clare disappears, they contact the police, who don't express much concern. Meanwhile Jess is planning to get an abortion, but boyfriend Peter is very much against it. The police finally begin to get concerned when a 13-year-old girl is found dead in the park. They set up a wiretap to the sorority house, but will they be in time to prevent a sorority girl attrition problem? DVD Features:* Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1) * Two newly-discovered original scenes with a new vocal soundtrack * "The 12 Days of Black Christmas" featurette * Interview segments with Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder * Midnight screening Q&A with John Saxon, Bob Clark, and Carl Zittrer You may never have heard of this neglected 1974 gem, but you've probably seen one of its many imitators. Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder (also look for Andrea Martin of SCTV fame) star as two residents of a sorority house that is emptying out as Christmas approaches. The atmosphere is jolly and carefree, except for an ongoing series of menacing telephone calls, and, oh yes, we've just seen someone climb into the attic with apparent ill intent. Kidder does some scene-stealing as the bad girl, Hussey illustrates one of the downsides to having beautiful long '70s hair, and Keir Dullea does a nice turn as the creepy boyfriend. Director Robert Clark knows that the unseen is far scarier than what can be seen and he ratchets up the tension beautifully, making good use of ominous shadows, and putting in nice touches like replacing the sound of a distraught woman's scream with the piercing ring of yet another ominous phone call. This is a terrific, well-made little movie that is genuinely sleep-with-the-lights-on scary. Don't miss it.

This is an oldie but definitely a goodie. Think about using one of those holiday gift cards that you will likely get to pick up this classic, "can't miss" Special Edition... True Romance (Unrated Director's Cut) (Two-Disc Special Edition)True Romance is really part of a loose trilogy that includes Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, with a crackling Tarantino screenplay that rides a fine line between raucous comedy and violent excess. True Romance is one of those great films that was rather unfairly and bizarrely largely ignored on it's original theatrical release but it's really hard to know why. It's not because of the script/screenplay, that was written by the great Quentin Tarantino, with all the trademark flourishes you'd expect, with witty dialogue and great set-pieces that leave you quoting them for weeks. It's not because it's got a poor cast or poor acting. Apart from the leads, Christian Slater and the wonderful Patricia Arquette (in undoubtedly their greatest screen performances), this movie has a cast list like a whose who of great screen actors; Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman and Christopher Walken. It also boasts a great cameo performance from Brad Pitt and a superb supporting performance from (the then not so famous) James Gandolfino. Val Kilmer and Samuel L. Jackson even turn up too in blink and you'll miss it performances. This is a great movie, a cool movie, a funny movie and an action movie. Directed by Tony Scott, one of the best (if not the best) action movie directors around, True Romance is the story of Alabama (Arquette) and Clarence (Slater) young newlywed lovers on the run with a stolen suitcase full of $5m worth of the mafia's coke, which they intend to sell. But as the old saying goes, the path to true love never runs smooth and a battle of wits ensues between Clarence, the police and the mob leading to a classic finale in this action packed film. As a whole, this movie works beautifully but on DVD it's even better because you can access all your favourite classic scenes that unmistakeably bare Tarantino's hallmark again and again. Such as the opening scene where the heterosexual Clarence (Slater) states that he'd sleep with Elvis if he were still alive, or the showdown between Clarence and dreadlocked gangster (Oldman). Or the showdown between the mob boss (Walken) and Clarence's Dad (Hopper). Classic scenes indeed, particularly the one with Walken and Hopper. It's hard to believe this movie was made back in 1993 because it's still as fresh, still as cool and still looks as enjoyable as it was back then. I just love this movie and if you haven't seen it yet I hope you will too. NAS - Hip Hop Is DeadThroughout his storied career, which began with 1994's classic Illmatic and has spanned the last decade with over 12 million albums sold, Nas has been more than just the genre's foremost lyricist and thinker. He has become a statesman, some would argue hip-hop's "conscience." Now, with the release of his long-awaited Def Jam debut--the aptly-titled Hip-Hop Is Dead--Nas returns to his role as mentor and teacher, his legendary mic skills as sharp as ever, and takes today's young rappers back to school. The lesson? Hip-Hop--as Nas sees it--is very much alive. 1. Money Over Bullsh*t 2. You Can't Kill Me 3. Carry on Tradition 4. Where Are They Now 5. Hip Hop Is Dead - Nas, will.i.am, 6. Hope Nas Shaking up Rap Industry With New AlbumBy naming his newest album "Hip-Hop is Dead," U.S. rapper Nas aims to push others in the genre to reconsider their direction and revitalize their music. The 33-year-old rapper, whose true name is Nasir Jones, told the New York Post he picked the title to spark a controversy. "I'm just sitting back and enjoying this. I knew people would be upset over the title, and I'm glad," Jones said. "Some rappers are cursing me, but there are a lot who are applauding me silently." The rapper, who has sold more than 12 million albums, is urging other rappers to learn from the past to secure a future for their genre. "There are so many artists that don't respect hip-hop. They don't know its roots," said Jones, whose new album launches Tuesday. "They're just in it to make money. Once they go platinum, they're like, 'Screw everyone.' They don't even take the time to learn about its pioneers."

The Descent (Unrated Widescreen Edition)What's it about?Claustrophobia and bloody mayhem collide in the high-adrenaline horror flick The Descent. Six women (including one who lost her husband and child the year before, and one who harbors a bitter secret) spelunk in an unexplored cavern system that turns out to harbor mysterious, predatory creatures. That sums up the story, but--as with writer-director Neil Marshall's previous low-concept movie, Dog Soldiers--the plot doesn't begin to describe the riveting, stomach-lurching thrills this movie provides. The script affords the relatively unknown cast (led by Shauna Macdonald and Natalie Mendoza, both excellent) just enough room to make their characters distinct and genuine, so that when they're dropped into utmost peril our empathy is engaged as much as our fear. The dynamic direction and editing make the cavern a palpable, physical presence, even before the creepy beasts crawl out of their nooks. This is not a movie for everyone; it is extremely gruesome and will induce panic attacks in anyone with even a mild fear of closed spaces. But for anyone seeking something smarter, faster, and more wrenching than static torture-fests like Saw or Hostel, The Descent will draw you into its unsettling ooze. DVD Features:Available Subtitles: English, Spanish Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1 EX), English (Dolby Digital 2.0) Commentary by director Neil Marshall and the crew Commentary by director Neil Marshall and the cast "The Descent: Behind the Scenes" "DescENDING" - An Interview with Director Neil Marshall Deleted and extended scenes Outtakes Stills gallery Cast and crew biographies

SNAKES ON A PLANEPossibly the most misunderstood movies of 2006, Snakes on a Plane is a hilarious tribute to every bad B-list cult classic horror/suspense movie ever made. As funny as it is, it all depends on how you enter into the viewing experience. You cannot take it seriously for one second and must remember that every line is a commentary or homage to previous horror movie bombs and cult classic busts. Naturally, the action is predictable and corny, the dialogue cheesy and dripping with dreck. But, that is the point of the film, not to ever be taken seriously or take itself seriously. The characters match suit, too. You have the noble pilot, the horny co-pilot, the heroine stewardess, the older flight attendent (who is retiring after this 'one last flight'), the young newlyweds in love, the single mother with the baby, the rap star and his crew, the arrogant businessman, the tough-as-nails FBI agent (played perfectly by Samuel L.), his nervous and uncertain partner, and many other tribute roles. You can almost tell just from the descriptions who is going to make it through and who is going to 'bite' the big one. Snakes on a Plane knows exactly what kind of movie it is, knows exactly what moviegoers expect from a title like Snakes on a Plane, and delivers the exact pleasures of a movie in which poisonous snakes are unleashed on a plane to kill an eyewitness to murder. DVD Features:* Available Subtitles: English, Spanish * Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround) * Commentary by director David Ellis and Samuel L. Jackson * Deleted scenes with optional commentary from director David Ellis * "Pure Venom: The Making of Snakes on a Plane" featurette * "Snakes on a Blog" featurette * "Meet the Reptiles" featurette * "Snakes on a Plane VFX" featurette * Gag reel * Music videos by Cobra Starship and others * Five TV spots * Trailers

At The Drive-In: This Station Is Non-Operational (Anthology)Four years since their "indefinite hiatus", the band members (now split into The Mars Volta and Sparta) have unveiled this collection of greatest hits, videos, BBC sessions, b-sides, re-mixes, EPK, and covers of The Smiths and Pink Floyd tunes. Includes an 18-track audio CD, a companion DVD, and a booklet containing 20 unreleased photos. This Station is Non-Operational: Anthology is a compilation by the now-defunct post-hardcore band At the Drive-In. It was released on May 24, 2005. The compilation contains tracks chosen by former band members in an attempt to encompass the group's chronology, from inception to their split in 2001. While there are many notable track omissions, most of the band's EP and album releases are represented, along with a selection of seven tracks previously unreleased on an album or EP. The collection received much criticism for ignoring all records that came out before 1997, the EPs "Hell Paso" and "Alfaro Vive, Carajo!" and the debut album "Acrobatic Tenement". Guitarist Jim Ward addressed the omissions in a recent interview explaining that: "I was just adamant about certain things staying off it. There was just some stuff I wanted to stay special, like those early seven-inches. If you have them, then you have them because you were in a certain place at a certain time." The "Special Limited Edition" comes as a two-disc set, with disc two as a DVD containing three videos ("One Armed Scissor", "Invalid Litter Dept.", and "Metronome Arthritis"), the "Operations Manual" electronic press kit, a discography, and a small collection of extras. The name of the album was taken from a lyric in "One Armed Scissor", possibly ATDI's best-known song. - - Disc 1:1. Fahrenheit 2. Picket Fence Cartel 3. Chanbara 4. Lopsided 5. Napoleon Solo 6. Pickpocket 7. Doorman's Placebo (B-Side) 8. Metronome 9. 198D 10. One Armed Scissor 11. Enfilade 12. Non Zero Possibility 13. Incetardis (B-Side) 14. Autorelocator (Rare) 15. Rascuache (Vaya Remix) 16. This Night Has Opened My Eyes (Smiths cover) 17. Initiation (BBC Lamacq Session) 18. Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk (Pink Floyd cover) Disc 2:1.: One Armed Scissor (video/DVD) 2.: Invalid Litter Dept (video/DVD) 3.: Metronome Arthritis (video/DVD) 4.: Operations Manual (electronic press kit/DVD) 5.: Discography (DVD) 6.: Extras (DVD-ROM)

The White Stripes: Under Blackpool LightsRecorded in Blackpool, England's Empress Ballroom in January 2004 with 8mm cameras, the White Stripes' Under Blackpool Lights comes dang close to capturing the feel of their live show. The band has always eschewed the modern contrivances of digital music-making, opting for vintage guitars, a trap kit, and tube amps to lay down their synthesis of Americana and British invasion fuzz. Most concert films these days are shot on high-definition video, but in keeping with the lo-fi approach noted above, Under Blackpool Lights was shot on Super 8mm film. The results are as grainy as hell. I didn’t catch this film on its brief cinema release, but the grain must have been the size of footballs on the big screen. But I can hardly mark it down, as this is the way the DVD is intended to look. The aspect ratio is 4:3, so not anamorphically enhanced. The soundtrack is available in three options: Linear PCM and Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 mixes. All are pretty powerful in their own right, though the two 5.1 mixes are sharper – and certainly slightly louder. The subwoofer gives Meg’s drums more of a kick. I didn’t detect any significant difference between the Dolby Digital and DTS mixes, and the PCM track is certainly none too shabby. Whichever you choose, you’ll be able to quite effectively deafen yourself in the comfort of your own home. The surrounds are mainly used for crowd noise. There are twenty-nine chapter stops, one per song plus a brief introduction showing Jack and Meg arriving at the Empress Ballroom, their bowing and thanking the audience at the end, plus the final credits. There are no subtitles (not unusual on music DVDs) and the disc is encoded for all regions. The DVD is packaged in a plain white plastic case inside a cardboard slipcase designed in – you guessed it – red, black and white. It contains a booklet featuring a track listing, credits and a one-page essay by one Brush Thomalson, “longtime friend of the band, mathematician, musician”. It also contains illustrations which are also reproduced on three transparencies, each in one of the band’s three trademark colours. For the Easter Egg, highlight “Let’s Shake Hands” on the song-selection menu and click right, to play a quirky little piece of backstage footage. The disc contains no extras to speak of, just wall-to-wall rock, but true disciples of the Stripes won't leave disappointed. Tracklisting:When I Hear My Name Black Math Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground I Think I Smell a Rat Take a Whiff on Me Astro Outlaw Blues Jack the Ripper Jolene Hotel Yorba Death Letter Do The Hardest Button to Button Truth Doesn’t Make a Noise The Big Three Killed My Baby Wasting My Time You’re Pretty Good Looking (for a Girl) Hello Operator Apple Blossom Ball and Biscuit Let’s Shake Hands I Fought Piranhas Let’s Build a Home Goin’ Back to Memphis Seven Nation Army De Ballit of De Boll Weevil

Saw III (Unrated Widescreen Edition)The Verdict: I would definitely check this one out. However, if you are a fan of the series, I would hold off on buying it just yet. This edition looks devoid of special features. They have done this with the previous releases as well and I am sure a special edition will soon be on the way! Add to to your rental list! What it's all about:Jigsaw has disappeared. With his new apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the puppet-master behind the cruel, intricate games that have terrified a community and baffled police has once again eluded capture and vanished. While city detectives scramble to locate him, Doctor Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh) is unaware that she is about to become the latest pawn on his vicious chessboard. One night, after finishing a shift at her hospital, Lynn is kidnapped and taken to an abandoned warehouse where she meets Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), bedridden and on the verge of death. She is told that she must keep the madman alive for as long as it takes Jeff (Angus Macfayden), another of his victims, to complete a game of his own. Racing against the ticking clock of Jigsaw’s own heartbeat, Lynn and Jeff struggle to make it through each of their vicious tests, unaware that he has a much bigger plan for both of them…

Guns N Roses:DVD Collector's BoxHittin your local shelves tomorrow! (Unlike Chinese Democracy which we all know is NEVAA comin out!)Format: Closed-captioned, Color, NTSC Language: English Rating : Not Rated Studio: Music Video Distribu DVD Release Date: January 30, 2007 Run Time: 120 minutes This DVD set is a compilation of interviews from people inside the GnR camp and journalists that were covering the band at the time of their beginnings through their success. The two DVD's are comprised of previously available releases The Prettiest Rock Star which is based on Axl's upbringing in Indiana to his arrival in L.A. and Sex n' Drugs n' Rock n' Roll which covers the humble beginning of Guns n' Roses to rock icons. The cast of characters includes; Vicky Hamilton who was Hollywood Rose's first manager, Chris Weber Hollywood Rose guitarist, Robert John who was Guns' official photographer for several years and adding some credibility to this collection is journalist Malcolm Dome who you have seen on many documentaries in the past and is a regular on the Classic Albums series from the U.K. While there is some new ground that is uncovered more so on the Axl DVD The Prettiest Rock Star the bulk of the material is common knowledge for longtime fans and possibly for anyone who has viewed the VH-1's Behind the Music special. Guns n' Roses gets credit for the explosion of the L.A. Glam scene when clearly there were others that came before them that gain attention, namely; Motley Crue, Ratt and W.A.S.P. Also Guns n' Roses was given credit for making the music video such brilliant promotional tool for selling albums. My take on this- Muthagoose Escobar would love it!-ALSO- Born On A Blue Day: Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant (Hardcover) by Daniel Tammet Hardcover: 240 pages Publisher: Free Press (January 9, 2007) Language: English This unique first-person account offers a window into the mind of a high-functioning, 27-year-old British autistic savant with Asperger's syndrome. Tammet's ability to think abstractly, deviate from routine, and empathize, interact and communicate with others is impaired, yet he's capable of incredible feats of memorization and mental calculation. Besides being able to effortlessly multiply and divide huge sums in his head with the speed and accuracy of a computer, Tammet, the subject of the 2005 documentary Brainman, learned Icelandic in a single week and recited the number pi up to the 22,514th digit, breaking the European record. He also experiences synesthesia, an unusual neurological syndrome that enables him to experience numbers and words as "shapes, colors, textures and motions." Tammet traces his life from a frustrating, withdrawn childhood and adolescence to his adult achievements, which include teaching in Lithuania, achieving financial independence with an educational Web site and sustaining a long-term romantic relationship. As one of only about 50 people living today with synesthesia and autism, Tammet's condition is intriguing to researchers; his ability to express himself clearly and with a surprisingly engaging tone (given his symptoms) makes for an account that will intrigue others as well. I saw Tammet on 60 Minutes last night, it was an extraordinary story. I have a family member who has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, it's not something a lot of people know about. Do yourself a favor and buy this book or get it at the library, in the least Google search Asperger's and read up about it a little.

Thanks for filling in for me last week Chick-O-Stick! On with the picks! HollywoodlandHollywoodland is a uniquely compelling exploration of fame and identity, inspired by one of Hollywood's most infamous real-life mysteries. The film is the feature directorial debut for Allen Coulter (Emmy and DGA Award nominee for his work on The Sopranos and Sex and the City). June 16, 1959. The glamour of Tinseltown permanently fades for actor George Reeves, the heroic Man of Steel on TV's Adventures of Superman, as the actor dies in his Hollywood Hills home. Felled by a single gunshot wound, Reeves (portrayed in Hollywoodland by Academy Award winner Ben Affleck) leaves behind a fiancée - aspiring starlet Leonore Lemmon (Robin Tunney) - and millions of fans who are shocked by his death. But it is his grieving mother, Helen Bessolo (Lois Smith), who will not let the questionable circumstances surrounding his demise go unaddressed. Helen seeks justice, or at least answers. The Los Angeles Police Department closes the case, but Helen hires - for $50 a day - private detective Louis Simo (Academy Award winner Adrien Brody). Simo soon ascertains that the torrid affair Reeves had with Toni Mannix (Academy Award nominee Diane Lane), the wife of MGM studio executive Eddie Mannix (Academy Award nominee Bob Hoskins), might hold the key to the truth. But truth and justice are not so easily found in Hollywood. Simo pursues dangerous and elusive leads in both high and low places and, in trying to turn up the heat, risks getting burned. The detective also uncovers unexpected connections to his own life as the case turns more personal and he learns more about Reeves himself. Behind the icon was a complex man who gave his life to Hollywood in more ways than one. DVD Features:Commentary by Director Allen Coulter Deleted Scenes "Recreating Old Hollywood" featurette "Behind the Headlines" featurette "Hollywood Then and Now" featurette
