DEFTONES Guitarist's SOL INVICTO Side Project To Release Debut EP In May
SOL INVICTO, the drum 'n' bass-meets-metal side project of DEFTONES guitarist Stephen Carpenter, Eric Bobo of CYPRESS HILL on percussion and drums, Richie Londres from the C.L.P. (CULTURA LONDRES PROYECTO) on production/guitar and AJ Cookson (UK-based producer), will release its debut recording, a four-song EP called "Unidose", on May 12 via Altered Beats Music and iTunes. There will also be two free downloads of remixes by Richie Londres and AJ Cookson, available only on MySpace. SOL INVICTO's sound is described as "a mix of DEFTONES-style heavy guitar riffs and soundscape melodies with grimy crushing drum-and-bass beats and basslines, all mixed down in London, England." DEFTONES Drummer: 'We're All Excited About How This Record Is Taking Shape'
DEFTONES entered a Sacramento, California studio in April 2008 with producer Terry Date (SOUNDGARDEN, PANTERA) and engineer Scott Olson (DEFTONES, UNEARTH) to begin recording the band's sixth studio album, "Eros", tentatively due before the end of the year. The group's drummer Abe Cunningham says, "We're almost finished tracking our record up here at The Spot and we'll head up to Terry's studio in Seattle next month to add the final touches and begin mixing. We're all excited about how this record is taking shape, and can't wait to share it with all of you!"
DEFTONES will headline KUPD's End of Summer Scorcher September 20 in Peoria, Arizona with ALICE IN CHAINS. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, August 2 at all local Arizona Club Tattoo locations. They'll also be available online beginning Monday, August 4 via Tickets.com.
The band's last CD, "Saturday Night Wrist", came out in October 2006 and its creation nearly resulted in the DEFTONES' demise. But singer Chino Moreno said, "Our working relationship is better than it's ever been before. As a result, everything has improved — our friendships and our lives. We're all really happy now."
