H.I.M. - Sign to Sire Records Here's from the official H.I.M. site, Heartagram.com: "HIM has been signed to an exclusive worldwide recording contract with Sire Records. The announcement was made by Sire Records founder Seymour Stein and President Michael Goldstone. Sire Records is one of the most legendary American labels and the original home of THE RAMONES, TALKING HEADS and MADONNA. It's part of the Warner Music Group. Finland is an exception and future HIM records will be released there on the band's own Heartagram label. Ville has been writing new songs this summer and we hope to start producing the next album in January or February. Later this year HIM will be touring UK as previously announced and they will also do a short US tour in November/December. The special guest in the UK is Lee Dorian's CATHEDRAL and in the US AUF DER MAUR and MONSTER MAGNET. The US dates will be announced here shortly."

What will happen when the crew storms into Philly for HIM on Nov. 13th?? Ponyone says: Mason will buy himself an entire new HIM wardrobe with Nubie, gloves, belt buckle and HIM thongs for a very lucky lady, he'll go apeshit during the show and be in his own HIM Wonderland. Muthagoose will no doubt see his arch nemesis Rake Yohn but no confrontation will take place, more than likely if past events are brought up, Rake will apoligize for his ridiculous actions before...and oh yeah, Muthagoose will become violently ill after mixing Jack, Jagr and random pills... Stomper will deem the night "Mad niggerish" from the get go - probably dissapear for most of the show and tell tales of his exploits on the ride home. Chief' first concert: Chief will ask weird questions the whole way there such as: Do we have to dance? How loud will it actually be? Where are we gonna sit? Chief will become ultra hammered 2 songs in of the opening act and scream in ponyone and muthagoose's ear all night about shit we cannot understand cause we're way too hammered. Chief will also attempt several concert stunts, such as stage diving, crowd surfing and may try to sing "Poison Girl" on stage. And Ponyone will see his "HIM chick", Uma, but nothing will play out because of all whiskey ponyone consumed on the way. Ponyone will plan to buy some souvenirs but spend all of his loot on alcohol. Ponyone may become violently ill outside the venue... The kidz will also become seperated at one point in which one of us is almost left in Philly...(Chief).

NY Post DRUNKEN VALO TRASHES H.I.M. SELF By DAN AQUILANTE November 17, 2004 -- BOOK Ville Valo for being DWS — that's drunk while singing. Valo, lead singer for Finnish quartet H.I.M., was so smashed onstage at Irving Plaza that he took what started out as a fairly good set and proceeded to crash it into the dirt. Valo appeared to be the only band member to indulge — and his behavior during a New York gig, the band's most important concert since it emerged on the Scandinavian music scene in the late '90s, obviously embarrassed the rest of the quintet. As they delivered lite-metal with solid musicianship, Valo slurred his way through the songs, forgot words and sang so softly that the lyrics were inaudible. If he took a lesson from dead rock stars like Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison or Janis Joplin, he'd know: If you're going to get wasted onstage, you better be fantastic. He wasn't. Instead of projecting the demeanor of a songful, sinful, bacchanal-loving hedonist, he was more like a pathetic skell who wandered onstage and got caught in the lights. His performance worsened as his bender progressed, save for his midconcert rally with two covers, Chris Isaak's "Wicked Games" and Neil Diamond's "Solitary Man," which he unfortunately credited to the late Johnny Cash. On records, Valo sounds like a talented fellow, but this concert proved that he has no respect for the audience or himself. More disturbing than his drinking was how he'd take a swig of beer and toss the remainder of the can over his shoulder to spill onto the stage. Not only was it a waste, a kid had to scramble on his hands and knees to wipe up the mess. Valo drank a six-pack that way, demeaning an associate each time. He's a singer with an ego bigger than his talent who thinks the world of himself. Too bad he's such a terrible judge of character.

Ville Valo Interview - 11/21/04Q: How do you feel about the success of this tour so far? Ville: Well, you know...um....well it’s a really short one so its really hard to get into a touring mood. But thanks to the help of Monster Magnet and Melissa Auf Der Maur its been really good because...well... the first club piece I saw was Monster Magnet back in ‘96 so they are a really big influence for me and the bass player and having them on the same bill, its really amazing. Q: And you originally played bass when HIM first formed? Ville: Well, yeah that was the plan but basically I was secretly hoping I could sing but I wasn’t sure if I was good enough but then we couldn’t find a singer so I just had to do it. Q: How do you feel about this tour in comparison to last april’s tour. Ville: Well the last tour was the first tour here so it was new and amazing but even this time its new and amazing ‘cause of the bands were touring with and because the venues have been a bit bigger and the response has been amazing ‘cause the people have had time to get into the band...you know, be able to know every song that we’ve done and you know.... that’s beautiful. Q: How do you feel about the exposure your recently gaining here in America. Ville: Well, im feeling good but as you know....you know the only official releases here have been Razorblade Romance and Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights, and we haven’t done any promotion or anything for them, and now that we have signed to Sire(records) im waiting to start working on the new album. Q: Which should be out next summer? Ville: I think its coming out next fall. Well, were hoping to go into the studio around March and I say its gonna be two months recording and a month mixing and then all the hassles and filming of videos and things like that. In Europe we’ve been known for longer and I think they will need a single by like early summer or whatever and so we gotta work on that and do the touring. I think after the touring its really good to have a new album out. If we get a chance to play..uh... say Ozzfest for instance that would be really good for us. But we don’t want to play at like 11:00 in the morning in the sunshine so we would rather do a smaller festival where we could get a good slot. Cause you know playing like that.....well we would lose all the atmosphere. Q: What’s the most important message you would try to deliver with your music? Ville: Uh...well no message what-so-ever. You know I don’t like music that is....uh...that is a statement. For me the lyrics are really personal and were doing what we fell in love with and were really happy that there are people who like what we do. Most of the people who like what we do seem to be... well to have an intellect. Im really happy to see people find a deeper meaning in what we do. And you know....we leave REM to sing about “Shiny Happy People” and we do the other side of that.....the darker side of things. For example when your happy in a relationship or when your happy with your life you don’t listen to music.....you hang out..... you go to the movies and you eat ice cream. But when your fucked mentally...or even physically, music is a great remedy for that and music is like that for myself....its therapy for myself as well. it’s a great therapy too. I can make a living out of it instead of making a living and paying to go to therapy. Q: Are you the main songwriter? Ville: Yeah...yeah... well my guitar player helped me with a couple of songs on the first album but not anymore. We do arrange all our songs together we sort of jam together but basically riffs, arrangements, melodies and lyrics..that’s all my part....so far. Lets see what happens on the next album. Q: Do certain situations inspire your writing more, or do lyrics just come to you? Ville: Um... im really shit with lyrics, it always takes a fucken horrendous amount of time. But it..a...its hard to say, I like the fact that its different. Sometimes its really fast and sometimes its really slow.... for example “Join Me In Death”.... the actual sing and lyrics took about two and a half years to put together even though it’s the same old 3 and a half minute song. Sometimes it just take time but sometimes...well...like “Funeral Of Hearts” happened in 20 minutes. So its all really different and that’s what makes the whole thing interesting, cause I never know Wheats gonna happen next. Q: As far as the your relationship with the other band members, would you say its musical or personal? Ville: Both. Because the bass player and the guitarist, their my old schoolmates. I’ve known them since I was 10 years old. I’ve known Gas, the drummer, since I was 16 or 17 years old. I’ve known Burton, the keyboard player, since 13 or 14. So we go a long way back and we did play in different bands together but most of all we hung out in bars and listened to good music and to me personally that makes things easier cause on tour there are no ego-clashes....were not trying to get personal success and you know that’s really nice. I think that’s the only reason were still together.
