H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo will reportedly record a solo album this year that is expected to be released before the new H.I.M. CD. The solo effort will apparently be inspired by "country" music and Ville's recent work on APOCALYPTICA's "Bittersweet" video, and will include the songs "Under the Rose", "Face of God" and "Have No Fear", which were performed by Valo during a recent live appearance.
The new H.I.M. album, which is presently untitled, will reportedly be recorded at the Paramour studio in L.A. with producer Tim Palmer (OZZY OSBOURNE, SEPULTURA) and is expected to be released in September/October 2005 via Sire Records. Ville told the Finnish Iltalehti newspaper last week that he will write 13 songs for the album over a two-month period, because "I do my best work under pressure," he reportedly said.

As widely expected, H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo and THE RASMUS singer Lauri Ylönen joined APOCALYPTICA for the world-premiere live rendition of their single "Bittersweet" at a benefit concert for the victims of the Asian earthquake/tsunami disaster at Helsinki's 12,000-seater Hartwall Arena on Monday (Jan. 17). The concert featured 30-minute live performances by H.I.M., THE RASMUS, APOCALYPTICA, NEGATIVE and THE 69 EYES. Check out pictures of Ville and Lauri performing with APOCALYPTICA: Photo#1, Photo#2. Described as "a dark ballad," "Bittersweet" was written jointly by APOCALYPTICA, Lauri and Ville and is accompanied by an equally impressive video shot in the band's hometown of Helsinki with renowned Finnish director Antti Jokinen (NIGHTWISH, CELINE DION, SHANIA TWAIN). The single debuted at position No. 3 on the Finnish chart upon its release last November. "Bittersweet" is the first single off APOCALYPTICA's forthcoming self-titled album, due on January 24 via Universal. View Photo: www.helsinginsanomat.fi/kuvat/iso_webkuva/1101978289005.jpeg

I received the two HIM shows on DVD (The original TLA show and the last show at The Electric Factory). The quality of sound and picture is great (one of the best bootlegs I have seen). I am sure at some point Pone will dub it to a CD version which we will bootleg on eBay to finance the revolution. I have placed 3 pics up at muthagoose.textamerica.com

In the latest issue of Metal Hammer magazine, H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo lists his top 10 BLACK SABBATH albums and comments on each recording. Read on:
10. Born Again
Ville Valo: "…'Disturbing The Priest' [is] a really cool, doomy, classic SABBATH track."
09. Heaven And Hell
Ville Valo: "…it's one of those albums that still stands the test of time, it still sounds good. It still makes me smile when I hear it."
08. Technical Ecstasy
Ville Valo: "One of BLACK SABBATH's most under-rated songs is 'Dirty Women'. That's actually my favorite Tony Iommi riff."
07. Never Say Die
Ville Valo: "I really like the vibe they get with the way they use the synths."
06. Vol. 4
Ville Valo: "'St. Vitus Dance' is my favorite track from that album."
5. Paranoid
Ville Valo: "…I love the story behind 'Paranoid': the album being too short and needing another song. So many great songs often happen like that."
4. Master Of Reality
Ville Valo: "'After Forever' is one of my favorite SABBATH tracks ever….The start of the album is really great, with all that coughing before 'Sweet Leaf'."
3. Sabotage
Ville Valo: "'Hole In The Sky', the album opener, was just massive as far as I was concerned."
2. Black Sabbath
Ville Valo: "That really is the best cover artwork I've ever seen on any album ever."
01. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Ville Valo: "Things like 'Fluff' are what I love about the '70s. What really big band would start the album with a couple of really heavy songs and follow that with a soft instrumental like 'Fluff'? It really does make you think, 'What on earth are they doing here?' But also it's part of what made BLACK SABBATH such a unique band."

Kerrang! magazine is reporting that Finnish goth-metallers H.I.M. have entered Los Angeles' Paramour studios to work on the follow-up to 2003's "Love Metal". According to singer Ville Valo, the as-yet-untitled album, which is being produced by Tim Palmer (who worked on the band's last CD), will feature "really fast songs but with a melodic punky MISFITS feel to them."
"Basically it's me being gay and the rest of the guys being even more gay to try to be metal!" Valo told Kerrang!
In keeping with recent speculation, "Under the Rose", an acoustic ballad Valo debuted at a U.K. gig last year as a result of a power failure at Portsmouth's Guildhall venue, will feature on the album, which is scheduled for release in October, but with a new twist.
"Now it's its going to be the fastest most ferocious song on there," the singer revealed.
H.I.M.'s forthcoming album will be preceded by a single release in August and a "Love Metal Archives Vol. 1" DVD featuring videos, live footage and rare interviews in early May. Ville Valo and his cohorts have also lined up a handful of European and Japanese festival appearances during the summer.

According to Billboard.com, Sire Records has set a September 26 release date for the new album from Finnish goth/metal quintet H.I.M., entitled "Dark Light".
Currently mixing songs at New York's Electric Lady studios with producer Tim Palmer (DAVID BOWIE, OZZY OSBOURNE), frontman Ville Valo said the band was inspired by the works of film composer Angelo Badalamenti. "Our approach on 'Dark Light' was to work on key words to make the music more cinematic, epic, and close to the listeners," he told Billboard.com.
The follow-up to 2003's "Love Metal", "Dark Light" was recorded at Los Angeles' Paramour studios with Palmer, who also worked on the band's last album. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include possible first single "Killing Loneliness", "Under the Rose", "Behind the Crimson Door", "Face of God", "Wings of a Butterfly", "Drunk on Shadows" and the title cut.
Ville Valo and his cohorts have lined up a handful of European and Japanese festival appearances during the summer. A North American jaunt is being penciled in for October and November.
